Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Family Stay I booked my family into two rooms about three months before arriving at the hotel. We arrived very late on a Saturday night only to discover that the rooms we had reserved were not available. The hotel staff apologised and 'upgraded' us to two suites for the first night only. One of the suites did not have the correct bed configuration so we were given another room. On arrival at the second room we opened the door only to discover that somebody was already in bed in the room! Both myself and the occupant of the room were extremely irritated at this point. We were then allocated another suite but again that room did not have the required bed configuration. Two rollaway beds were ordered and arrived eventually. The whole check in process took over an hour! The following morning one of the rooms had to be cleared and another room was allocated. A truly appalling reservation system although the staff did try to help. The staff were so embarrassed by our experience that we were given a free breakfast on another morning later in the week. I rarely stay at IHG hotels and doubt that I will ever do so again if this is the kind of service on offer! 03 June 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 10 years of staying at the Barclay I first stayed with you looking for a hotel in midtown after one I had stayed with was sold out. When I arrived Kirk Lynch was on the front desk and welcomed me with pleasure. I know he was promoted to the Head of Housekeeping. I enjoyed my stay with beautiful furnishings and the service that I have never looked elsewhere when I come to New York City. David, the bellman is an excellent employee, he has often ran half way up the block to hail a taxi for me, and ask me the next day if I reached my destination . He is true asset to the hotel . Fernando is the best waiter in the city , very attentive to me and the other guests. He has a wealth of knowledge about the city. In March when I stayed with you , it was St. Patrick's Day, he wished me a Happy St. Patrick's 'Day and told me that the NYC parade was the oldest in the United States. I didn't know that but when I returned home that was the trivia question about St. Patrick's Day on the local television station . I will miss my home away from home during renovations, but as the World War II song says " We'll meet again some sunny day. Thank you again for the pleasure you have provided me, 02 June 2014

THis trip I requested information from the concierge who stopped helping me when he dicovered I wasn't going to buy a tour. This has never happenbed before. Also, parking is now outrageous. I parked the car two blocks away for a third of the price. The hotel needs to rethink this. 02 June 2014

However, I am resuming my travel around the world and I would like to stay at the Intercontinental Hotels as I did in the past. I was somewhat disappointed in the overall tired look of the Barclay in New York. It is my understanding it will soon be closed for renovations. Please make the bathrooms larger. I am looking to return when it is reopened. 02 June 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly, approachable staff My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary the weekend of May 24,2014. The room was excellent. Location is near Times Square but not too close. On Saturday morning we exited the hotel onto Lexington Ave. where the road was closed for an open market. The hotel is old and beautiful. The rooms are well maintained and updated. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best place to stay This is my third time staying at this hotel, and it never fails to impress me. I have been in other hotels in the same area, but the Intercontinental Barclay has become my favorite. Starting from the excellent and cordial service and ending with it's superb location. Not to mention that you feel that you are in a real hotel , with it's spacious and ample lobby. I really like it and it always makes my experience in this great city a one to remember. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasurable stay but upcoming refurbishment a good idea! We were travelling with our children (aged 11 & 13) so had asked for a quieter room. We were given a room at the end of a corridor however it faced the street outside so was quite noisy with cars beeping and staff outside hotel whistling for taxis all day & night! (To be expected in NYC I know!). Room was clean and our beds comfortable. Was slightly on the small side for a family of 4 (especially the bathroom) but it was only a base so not a problem. In the bathroom there were signs of wear and tear (sealant missing, parts of the bath around the plug hole sealed to fill in holes) so the upcoming refurbishment is a good idea. The Hotel is in a great location. Brilliantly placed for Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Central Park etc. All major sights within walking distance (we only got the Subway to visit 9/11 Memorial, Greenwich Village & Statue of Liberty). We didn't eat at the Hotel so can't comment on that side but the Reception staff & Concierge were very helpful whenever we spoke with them. All in all, an enjoyable stay. Would definitely stay here again if we ever visit NYC in the future and would recommend it to friends. 29 May 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Travelling with a Group We just got back from NYC after an enjoyable stay at the Intercontinental Barclay with a group of teenagers on a choir trip to Carnegie Hall! Our group was so excited to have been invited to the city for this amazing opportunity and our hotel was booked as part of our package. Imagine our surprise when we walked into the lobby to see such a grand setting! The staff and concierge service made our trip so much more enjoyable than we had planned. Each morning we would stop in at the concierge desk and ask for tips and directions for our day and every suggestion was a winner! We saved so much time following their advice and we were even able to get Broadway tickets for $30 each! Thank you so much, Barclay, for providing such a beautiful hotel, with lovely beds to rest up after a big day of sightseeing and rehearsals and for providing the concierge service to help us make the most of our short time in the Big Apple! But it was not ready until much later. 1st room would not open from the inside due to faulty door lock. manager was supposed to call me but didn'tt. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed, noisy room, average service The room size and amenities is good - when compared to other NYC hotel rooms. The bed is comfortable, desk space sufficient and size of room allows one to sit comfortably and move around easily. The room is very noisy - seems that the windows do not shield you from any of the outside noise - cars, taxis, garbage trucks, etc. I was on the 9th floor. Service in the room is average - 1 night out of 3 my shampoo/gel was not replaced and used towels left in room. I was too tired to call the front desk about it. Overall, the room was comfortable but sleep was tough. 27 May 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Location My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic week here in mid-March 2014. From the moment we left the cab and were greeted by the concierge, to checking out, the staff couldn't have been beeter or more polite. On entering the hotel, my wife stopped dead in her tracks to view the splendour of the reception area, such was it's beauty. Located just a 10 minute walk from Times Square, it's perfectly located. Ok, there's traffic issues to contend with, but you're living in a hotel in the heart of a city of 8 million people, so, that shouldn't be a surprise. On the whole, a brilliant hotel, my wife and I plan to return to New York later this year, our hotel of preference, will be this one. 25 May 2014

The entire staff could not be more friendly, helpful and welcoming. Accommodations are spacious, clean and comfortable. You could not ask for a more ideal location. This property is a grand and beautiful classic and our stays, past and present, could not be more perfect! Kudos to the entire staff for always making us feel welcome and appreciated. Thank you! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Charm at the Price of Noise We enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel, preferring the character here to more modern hotels. The location is excellent. The lobby is beautiful. The staff was helpful. The room was spacious for New York and comfortable, and we appreciated the fridge-- although the beds left something to be desired. The drawback to an older hotel, it seems, is the noise level. We were on the 14th floor and not facing the street, yet were bothered by loud whistles for taxis (late into the night), not to mention ambulances and fire trucks. We heard the people next door (there was a connecting door) and across the hall. I'll take this into consideration when booking in the future. 22 May 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brilliant location We stayed for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. Hotel was in a great location, welcoming after a long journey and everything ready for a quick check in. All staff were friendly, knowledgeable and nothing too much trouble. The room was very comfortable with everything you needed to recharge your batteries and get an excellent nights sleep. The reception, dining and bar areas where full of character and beautifully furnished and we will definitively stay here again on our next trip to New York. 21 May 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Long Weekend stay We picked the New York Berkley as part of a package deal with BA. On arrival we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a superior room which we gladly accepted. The room was good but a bit tired, the bathroom was very small but to be honest you do not spend much time in there. The staff were excellent and in particular the concierge was very helpful and knowledgable. The hotel foyer is excellent and the bar area very welcoming. The location of the hotel was superb and everything we wanted was in easy walking distance. The hotel is due a refit soon and we would certainly stay there again in the future. Good bars, restaurants and breakfast houses nearby. Close to subway. Rooms great size and truly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Coffee maker great facility and always topped up. I have loved being a guest there since 1979, and fear the new ownership and remodeling will turn it into a glitzy, cold place like the IC Times Square.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by St Patricks day in NYC Loved the location of the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room spacious and tidy. The bathroom would help from updating. No free Internet , which although we knew about , needs addressing , especially in the technological world of today. Even "Starbucks " give free wifi !! No coffee available in the lobby after hours, suggested we order in room service. Overall I would recommend the hotel. 01 May 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grand Historic Hotel in Prime Location This is a classic hotel with a cozy feel. We loved our 7th floor corner suite. We had a spacious living room as well as bedroom. The bathroom was small....but expected given the historic nature of the building. It was very clean and functional. The furniture is showing some age but was told the property is about to receive a makeover. The location is unbeatable! When we come back to New York we will certainly consider the Barclay again. 28 April 2014
