Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by nice property let down by staff My family stayed heare for a week during january. The hotel messed up the room configuration front desk made this sound like it was my fault. No upgrades provided despite royal ambassador status. I was twice given the incorrect information regarding the inclusion of breakfast in my reservation. A $40 charge per person per day...something you want clear from the outset! On numerous occasions I heard front desk staff talk over guest and experinced this myself. Each day we were there we had to call down to get one of the standard supplied wine glasses, coffee or bottle opener reinstated to the room. on one occassion this took 2 hours and numerous calls to get completed. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone 03 February 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by good location The staff was ok but not very friendly or knowledgable. The bathroom was small and the window was not closing well which was not pleasant as the temperature during our stay outside was extremely cold. The bathroom was only supervisionally cleaned, corners and large surfaces were forgotten. There was a large crack in the sink and it took ages for the hot water to arrive. (Probably due to the room in the sixth floor) All in all the hotel being a well known hotel in NY, the expectations were higher then the actual experience. 03 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional stay I always search for the Intercontinental whenever I travel. This was my first stay in NYC at the Intercontinental. The hotel reacted to a situation in a way that I never expected. My booking was Tuesday 21Jan 2014. On Monday 20Jna2014 a storm warring was issued, and flights started to get canceled one after the other. The airline confirmed that my flight will on time. On Tuesday after noon, the airline decided to cancel the flight due to sever weather in NYC. My deadline for cancellation without penalty was Monday 20Jan2014 4PM (Local hotel time). I called the hotel once I got notice of my flight change, and informed that Please do not cancel the room and I will accept the charges for the first night. The front desk took note. On checkout I was informed that i will only pay 2 nights, where they have waved the first night. Such exceptional service can only be found with such an amazing hotel, and this is why i will continue to be a member. Thank you Intercontinental Hotel Barclay - NYC. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Experience As an ambassador member, I was very surprised at the poor quality of the room, with peeling wallpaper and water damage throughout. The AC/Heater rattled when on and the bathroom was the size of a small closet (requiring the door to be closed to approach the toilet). The staff are always excellent at this property, however, the quality/size of the room far outweigh that positive experience. Finally, I could not believe it when I received the bill for breakfast for 2 people at over $100..... simply ridiculous, I will NEVER eat at that restaurant again. 27 January 2014

Rooms could use come updating but nice, comfortable and clean. Plenty of street parking on the weekends. No swimming pool, though. 27 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another great stay In NYC for a quick overnight trip for a client presentation. From first greeting at the door until I departed the next day, I had the normal high level of service one expects at the Intercontinental. Staff were courteous, quick to serve and attentive. The room, like most rooms in NYC are on the small size. However the amenity kit, lighting, bed quality, etc were all perfect. This Barclay's property has an old world charm, and the bar area was perfect for drinks with my colleague before dinner. Level of service was perfect (not hovering but available at a moment's notice, even when very busy). 18 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by noisy maids in hallway This was my second stay at the Intercontinental Barclay and I love the hotel and its location. Unfortunately, this stay was marred by very noisy maids in the hallway. I was using these five days to relax, unwind, and catch up on some needed sleep so I was not rising early, however, the cajoling and endless laughter and chatter from one end of the hall to the other woke me up. I actually got up one morning and peered out to make sure the noise was emanating from the maid service and not other residents of the hotel. I have stayed in countless hotels all over the world and have never encountered this level of annoyance. I hope management can address this problem. 17 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Refined Beautiful Hotel With Wonderful Service We enjoyed a ladies' weekend showing our aunt the sights of New York in December. After numerous trips to the city in past years staying in various hotels, we had a pleasant surprise when we walked into the beautiful lobby of the Barclay Intercontinental. "The weather outside was frightful" but "the lobby was so delightful" as we entered and immediately received a warm welcome. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and LARGE compared to other luxury hotels in NY. The complimentary breakfast buffet was beautifully presented, sumptuous and delicious; we were fortified for the day! The location was perfect, enabling us to safely walk to restaurants and shops when taxis can be difficult to obtain in December. Every staff member was courteous and helpful--I even jokingly "adopted" the nice young man at the desk who offered to clip the tag on my warm new hat. We have finally found our hotel home in New York! Thank you, Barclay Intercontinental!!! 13 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location, rooms are old and tired Public areas are comfortable and nice. Rooms are not up to date and tired. I was upgraded which was very nice. The temperature was below zero outside, and the heating system in the room was faulty. The technician couldn't fix it and I got extra blanket for the night. A compensation of B&B for few nights will be nice. 12 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FAMILIAR FACES I travel to NYC each year around the holiday season and have tried many mid-town hotels. I keep returning to the Barclay because it is a clean, beautiful hotel with a lovely lobby, but the one thing that keeps me coming back is the staff. Not only are they friendly and knowledgeable, but I see the same faces each visit. Stepping out of the cab and being greeted like a friend feels like coming home...not the usual experience in the City that never sleeps. 07 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 7th stay at the Barclay The Intercontinental Barclay is an old hotel. Old in a good way. Large rooms. Beautiful lobby. And an attentive staff which includes the front desk, housekeeping, and bartenders. I mention the bartenders, because I bought flowers for my wife in the evening and needed a container to put them in. Stopping at the lobby bar, and explaining my predicament, one of the bartenders offered a tall pilsener glass to serve as a flower vase. The helpful offer was nice enough in itself. But then, another bartender offered to cut an inch off the stems. That's called service over and above the expected. And just one more reason to stay at the Barclay in New York. Hotel a bit dated but comfortable. Entrance to Grand Central Station (via underground walkway) on same block as hotel. Great, centralized location for Manhattan. 02 January 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by NY Barklay Sub-par As a worldwide traveller and a platinum ambassador member of the InterContinental hotels, I was disappointed in the NY Barklay property / management. My second stay at the hotel, in six months, the management is consistent in its lack of pride or care about its keeping sub-par standards. Examples: Ambassador amenities were never delivered, room safe missing and only delivered upon our checkin out. It took five (5) calls and 4 hours and 30 minutes to have a cot-bed brought for our son: first call was placed at 7:30 pm, the cot arrived past mid-night ! 02 January 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely Lobby, rooms could do with some moderniation The Lobby and bar in the hotel was loveley, the staff all very friendly. The food in the bar was fantastic too. Sadly the rooms and the accomodation areas could now do with some modernisation. The bed although huge was very soft which made it a little uncomfy. The rooms although functional and a nice size just feel a little dated now. The bathroom was the biggest dissapointment as it was tiny. I would still revist and recommed this hotel I jst hope it starts to upgrade a little before too soon. 31 December 2013

I have stayed in several hotels in New York and this is my favorite one by far. I love the location, the staff and the room! I am about to book another stay for two weeks from now. Leslie P,. of guest relations, deserves special praise. My wife and I arrived at the hotel quite early in the day, but she was able to find a very suitable room, and did it with a smile. The Barclay is fortunate to her as the first staff person that many guests meet when they arrive at the hotel. 30 December 2013

I only had to call for assistance two or three times and within a few minutes there was a knock on the door, One could not ask for more courteous or helpful employees. The room was spacious, clean and beautiful! It was a great location - walking distance to everything. We had a wonderful week in New York and the hotel and their employees were perfect in every way. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Christmas in NYC We had a fine stay at the Barclay. The staff is top notch and helpful. They answered all our questions and got us what we needed happily and quickly. We were not impressed with the room. The tub and sink clogged with every use. It was fixed upon request but was still slow to drain. We used reward points for our stay and was hoping for a nicer room and view. The location was nice ~ close to Rockefeller Center and Broadway and easy subway access. Meals at the hotel restaurant are very pricey but we found a lovely gourmet deli close by to enjoy breakfast before enjoying the sites of the city. 28 December 2013

My partner and I sailed into NYC on the Queen Mary 2 after a 7 day transatlantic crossing from Southampton, England. We were visiting friends and family in NYC...all of whom had said what a great hotel The Barclay is. We were also enjoying a belated anniversary of our civil partnership. The Barclay was superb. Every member of the staff with whom we had contact was professional, smiling, efficient and fun! Our room was very comfortable. All the public areas are a delight. And the breakfast buffet is superb. We have stayed in many up-scale hotels around the world; this hotel will now become one of our favourites. 27 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great place to stay This was our 2nd stay and was a real treat. We had enjoyed it very much the 1st time but hadn't been there at Christmas time before. The Barclay has a really pretty and inviting lobby, and a top-notch bar. We had breakfast there each day and that was bounteous and delicious (I had the fresh blackberries, blueberries, & raspberries with yogurt and oatmeal every day) and we also had a late night dinner there once and the food was equally good. The location is terrific--we walked to see the tree at Rockefeller Plaza and the store windows and lights, and it was so easy getting to MOMA and the City Center for dance. Easy too to get there through Grand Central as it's just behind the station on East 48th street. For the season we discovered they had carolers and other musicians in the lobby each late afternoon. The staff is exceptional in its responsiveness and friendliness, and the room and bed very comfortable. Like so many NY hotels, the bathroom is very small and could use more counter space, but that is really a minor complaint compared to the other values this hotel offers. All together, we really enjoy our experience staying at this hotel and will look forward to going back to it. 26 December 2013

Our room was upgraded to a one bedroom suite as members of the Ambassador Club. Overall this was a great experience. The only negative was some traffic noise from the Street below.
