RECOMMENDATIONS
MORNINGChicago's Metra Rail is an ideal way to start your day of exploration. Our complimentary shuttle will drop you at the Rosemont station, where you will take a train direct to Union Station. There, you will be impressed by the architecture in the Great Hall. Union Station was envisioned by famed Chicago architect Daniel Burnham ("Make no small plans: they have no magic to stir men's blood"), and was the backdrop for a well-known scene in "The Untouchables". From Union Station, you are a five minute walk to the Willis Tower where a brief elevator ride will take you to the Skydeck and the new attraction - "The Ledge", where you can stand 1,353 feet above the Chicago streets. The next stop in your journey is the museum campus where some of the world's greatest relics reside at the Field Museum, the Art Institute, the Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium. Take your time because there is a tremendous amount to see. From there, a short water taxi ride will take you to Navy Pier where you can enjoy the sights of the city from the Ferris Wheel, modeled after the very first Ferris wheel, which was built for Chicago's 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. The Navy Pier Ferris wheel provides unparalleled views of the Chicago skyline and lakefront. From there, be sure to make the 15-minute walk to Michigan Avenue - "The Mag Mile" for one of the best window shopping strolls you'll ever take. |
AFTERNOONLunch on Michigan Avenue is hard to beat, and there are few places better than Michael Jordan's, located inside the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile. After lunch, take your pick - walk north and enjoy the high-end shops, or walk south and take in the sights and sounds of the city's famed "Loop" district such as Macy's on State Street, featuring the best of Chicago architecture: - The Great Clocks (The corner of State Street and Washington Street; The corner of State Street and Randolph Street). Weighing in at over seven tons each, the massive and elegant timepieces have kept Chicago on time for more than a century. The Great Clocks, known as the "Sentinels of State Street" with their ornamental ironwork and timeless beauty still remain a popular meeting place for Chicagoans and visitors alike, becoming icons of Chicago and "making State Street, that Great Street!" - Great Granite Pillars (State Street Entrance) Installed in the portico in 1902, only the pillars at the Temple of Karnak in Egypt are taller. - The Tiffany Ceiling (5th Floor) The grandiose ceiling, which was installed in 1907, contains over 1.6 million pieces and is the largest unbroken example of Tiffany Favrile glass in the world. |
EVENINGNo evening would be more beautiful than on the Chicago River enjoying the Architectual Tour. Chicago is even more impressive from the water. After your tour, don't miss the beauty of Chicago from 96 floors up! The Signature Room on the 96th floor of the Hancock Building offers a breathtaking view. For dinner you might like to try the new Dine Around where you are picked up at the Hancock Building and venture to three outstanding restaurants, one for appetizers, one for dinner and the last for dessert. After dinner, you can enjoy a perfect end to the evening at the famed "Buddy Guy's Legends". |
