Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by this would have made the stay excellent whirl pool tub extemely slow flow of water took forever to fill tub. VERY disappointed on not having movies on demand or even a dvd player!!! Views were outstanding. Bathroom was special Great service, comfortable bed. 18 October 2012

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy and lousy elevator service Although the hotel is very pretty and the rooms are well appointed, my room shared a wall with the elevator shaft. UGH! They went up and down late into the evenings and started again very early in the mornings. There was no peace. So much for a junior suite, no matter how nice, that made it hard to accept. The elevator service needs serious upgrading. I waited with 8 other people on the 7th floor for 15 minutes for 1 of 3 elevators to get to us. It was dinner time in the hotel bar, but that's no excuse not to have 1 elevator for the Top of the Mark and several that serve only hotel guests. Budget conscious hotels get that much and the prices here should make that elemental in client service. I will not go back. 18 October 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, good service Hotel is showing its age but service from first contact is excellent. Beds very comfortable, bathrooms a bit small. Stayed on 11th floor, good views from one of our rooms (had two) but at this level no bad views, actually. Overall, a good experience, no negatives. Would freely recommend. 16 October 2012

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional stay I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my stay. This is a grand old hotel, with old world service and amenities. The staff - from the concierge, reception, room service, housekeeping - were all so gracious, kind and helpful that it made It truly a pleasure to stay here. The bedding and robes and the actual bed were extremely comfortable and I slept very well. I can't imagine staying anywhere else! 14 October 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What a way to celebrate my wife's 70th! It was possibly the busiest weekend ever in San Francisco. Fleet Week, Blue Angels (Great view from Top of the Mark), America's Cup, 49ers, and at least 12 festivals. However, the desk staff, concierge, valets, bell personnel were all excellent in handling all the hustle and bustle. It was my wife's 70th birthday nd had resevations for lunch at the Top of the Mark restaurant. The restaurant staff treated us all as if we were celebreties and on top of that, the dining was delicious, and the show (Blue Angels) was fantastic! They even brought a delicious cake to our room. 14 October 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sisters from Toronto I stayed with my 2 sisters at this great hotel for a long weekend adventure during the weekend of Oct. 5th - what a great experience. We upgraded to the Ambassador status and we are sure glad we did. We had a beautiful suite with a bed that was to die for, Frette towels, linens, and robes! We also had access to the private lounge where we ate fabulous breakfasts and had both afternoon and evening snacks (really they could be meals) - fabulous cheeses mmmm, great wine selections and even champagne!!!! The staff go above and beyond. Every staff person we encountered was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful. We had an amazing time in San Francisco and will always stay at the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental. What a beautiful place. We are going to look into joining the Ambassador program as it is well worth it! Cudo's to everyone who works there for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Major Disappointment! We arrived with a load of luggage. The place was very busy. After check-in, I loaded our luggage onto a vacant luggage cart and headed for the elevator. I was appraoched by a bellmen who rudely said, "you can not use the cart, only hotel staff can use them". I had no problem with this IF we could have our luggage brought up now. He said they were too busy and that it would be brought up when they had time. We needed our luggage to change shower and change clothes and were not willing to wait "until the bellmen had time" to bring up our luggage. The bellman unloaded our luggage into the middle of the lobby and rolled the cart back to the wall and walked away. Majority of the staff was very rude and treated us as if were were not worthy to reside at their hotel. I have no plans to every return to this hotel again. 13 October 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Forgettable For what the hotel charges for their small rooms, not worth it. Everything you touch will cost extra. Charging for Wi-Fi? Seriously? Air conditioning was like sleeping next to a jet engine when used. This was our last stop on a trip that took us up and down the California coast, staying at Spas and resorts that offered far more for the cost. Not worth the hype and especially the cost. 12 October 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just the Very Best My husband and I stay at the Mark Hopkins Hotel every time we go to San Francisco. In fact, we go to San Francisco so we can stay at the Mark Hopkins! How could you improve on the views of the city, the helpfulness of the staff, and all the amenities available. Their Club room provides us with a person who meets all our needs, no matter how small, confusing or silly. Have you been to a Sunday brunch ever that has such a magnificent view while choosing between tables full of choices of your very favorite foods? Try sitting in the lobby and you'll feel as if it could be your home...not big and impersonal. Walk out the iconic revolving front door to car service for everything you need. The top-of-the-hill corner front driveway sets the scene for us and says it all. It speaks of this hotel's permanence, history and beauty that thrills us every time as we approach our purrrfect stay. 10 October 2012

Booked a club room, well worth it as the club offers a great place to relax, nibble on yummy things, grab a coffee or a glass of wine. The staff are nice and professional as you would expect. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Staff is very friendly and polite. The attitude of the staff can greatly improve or severely damage the experience at a hotel. These guys were polite, helpful and friendly. The room was clean. The view was okay. Location was great as 2 cable car lines pass right by the hotel. But all you really need is a comfortable, clean room where you don't feel grossed-out sleeping in the bed. For the money, this was a good buy. 04 September 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My favourite hotel in San Francisco It's always a pleasure to stay at the Mark Hopkins and our recent visit was no exception. Beginning with a warm welcome from very helpful staff, our room was large and very comfortable. Even located next to the lifts did not detract from a great night's sleep. Top of the Mark is always an exceptional experience - fabulous views, great cocktails and wonderful ambience - sundown is not to be missed for any visitor to San Francisco. we booked and paid in advance on line, which afforded very good value for the quality of the hotel; superior to hotels we've used right on Union Square. For those who don't enjoy the hike up Nob Hill there's a choice of transport readily available. We look forward to coming back again. 21 August 2012

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Top of the Mark bad experience The hotel room was beautiful with a very comfortable bed, very clean, beautiful bathroom lovely view. Our disappointing part was when we went to the famous "Top of the Mark" bar in the evening to view the city. We arrived, gave our name, and was overlooked for quite some time, while other parties were seated. When we brought this to their attention, the hostess ignored us as though we were "beneath" her. After a few more minutes, we questioned why everyone had been seated and we still had not, in spite of the fact we were hotel guests. She then proceeded to have us seated in the bar-and to our discovery, a good portion was empty. And when we brought it up to the hotel manager, he took it very lightly. Very disappointing to be treated so disrespectfully, when we were dressed properly and were paying guests as others were. 16 August 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by MARK HOPKINS EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS THAT YOU WILL HAVE... Excellent property and I refuse to stay anywhere BUT the Mark Hopkins when In San Francisco. What Is by far the best part of my stay, that most overlook Is the bedding and the comfort of the beds. The rooms are as always excellent & immaculate. What Is another good mark Is the location of the property (Nob Hill). Nob Hill Is a great little neighborhood and reminds me of two neighborhoods In Austin, Tx (Hyde Park & Clarksville) which adds so much charm to your stay! 16 August 2012

Beautiful 8th floor room- comfortable, clean, and quiet- with nice amenities.The Nob Hill location is special and really beautiful, but being at the top means a steep walk, so be prepared. You are not going to quickly and easily walk back from Union Square, even though you are not far from it. I would rate the hotel excellent for value if there had been a breakfast cart to purchase muffins, juice, and coffee each day. There is a breakfast buffet at the Top of the Mark, but why not offer a $10/12 dollar continental breakfast also? Grace Cathedral downstairs has good coffee, juice, and muffins, so put your walking shoes on every morning to go there. Or order room service. Also, I would have liked for the hotel to have a list of cafes and restaurants close to the hotel. The concierge is helpful, but he/she is often very busy. 16 August 2012
