Insider Tips

Don't call it Frisco!

San Francisco is a great diverse city, with its people from all parts of the world. We're friendly and enjoy showing off our city, don't hesitate to ask anyone for directions!
As splendid as when it opened in 1926, Mark Hopkins is one of the city’s finest historic San Francisco luxury hotels. It’s ideally located at the crossing of three cable car lines, just minutes from Union Square. Each suite is furnished in a unique, stately style. Breathtaking views of San Francisco combine with fine dining and a signature 100 Martini menu at Top of the Mark restaurant. Described when it opened as ‘architecturally perfect’, this San Francisco luxury hotel remains so today.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hunter/McCaffrey wedding block Thank you from the McCaffrey family! We had a wonderful time at the Mark Hopkins. The staff and accommodations were remarkable, and we greatly appreciate you honoring the cancelation of a room on Saturday night even though it came in two hours late. The only thing that held us back a bit was getting into the Top of the Mark. We were in the lobby by the elevators for quite a while on Friday evening. We will be back! 19 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel The Mark Hopkins is a nice hotel, well located and very well maintained. I enjoyed my stay there and would stay there again. 19 November 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very thin walls I had to book this hotel due to a conference at the Mascone Center, but the closer hotels were booked solid. This was the last (relatively) reasonably priced of the hotels left but still pricey. I knew it was on top of Nob Hill, but didn't expect it to be that much of an incline, but that wasn't the real issue. I understand that as a Platinum and not Ambassador, I wouldn't get anything, but for that rate, I only got an "upgraded" view which doesn't do much on a conference and the regular fog rolling in over the bay and free wifi. Not even water. The room is dated and the bathroom was tiny. I almost lost my glasses and contact lens case to the toilet falling off the tiny ledge. The water pressure was nice and they changed out the towels and toiletries every night. The bed was comfortable enough, but I could hear neighbors up and down in the middle of the night. If it wasn't for the jetlag coming over from NYC, I wouldn't have been able to sleep. I wanted to check out the Top of The Mark, but that was closed the entire time I was there for private events. Couldn't even enjoy that. I will say that the staff working the doors were the best of the bunch. Didn't even get as much as a hello from the front desk agents. You basically have to make eye contact when you come in and out of the elevator. Overall, nothing that stood out as a hotel that I would stay at again for that price point unless I wanted to be near the California Street Trolley pick up points. 19 November 2014
