Insider Tips

Don't call it Frisco!

San Francisco is a great diverse city, with its people from all parts of the world. We're friendly and enjoy showing off our city, don't hesitate to ask anyone for directions!
As splendid as when it opened in 1926, Mark Hopkins is one of the city’s finest historic San Francisco luxury hotels. It’s ideally located at the crossing of three cable car lines, just minutes from Union Square. Each suite is furnished in a unique, stately style. Breathtaking views of San Francisco combine with fine dining and a signature 100 Martini menu at Top of the Mark restaurant. Described when it opened as ‘architecturally perfect’, this San Francisco luxury hotel remains so today.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by First Visit with IHG Ambassador Status Our weekend stay was our second stay at the hotel, but the first as IHG Ambassador status. The "perks" of Ambassador membership were very nice, and we were treated well by the staff - quick, early check in, the automatic upgrade without asking, as well as being informed of the other benefits. The room was comfortable, great view, although like many SF hotel rooms, definitely on the small side. The closed windows did whistle from the wind when it reached a certain speed, and fortunately the wind dropped late at night so it did not disturb our sleep. The bathroom is very small, and the toilet was loud when it was flushed. The bed is very comfortable, and all the other amenities were good. 18 September 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Aging splendour with an inattentive staff... As a visitor, Nob Hill will always be a wonderful location in San Francisco to stay. The views are often remarkable. However, this once glorious establishment is withering in time. The rooms are no longer worthy of the location or the views. The front desk staff are listless and ill-informed and the back office personnel are rude, curt and dismissive. As a Platinum Ambassador member I have found this property to be the most disappointing of all in which I've stayed. The more modern and vibrant Howard St property offers an experience much more in-line with the service and amenities the Intercontinental brand has become known for throughout the world. By the way, let me add...the bell staff and doormen were friendly and attentive...and, the housekeeping staff were very thorough. But, at $500+ per night, one must be offered more than a smile at the door and a chocolate on the pillow. I would be hard pressed to ever return to this property! 18 September 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location and Service My husband and I stayed for a weekend at Mark Hopkins to attend a wedding. We were very pleased with our room. Appreciated the coffee, New York Times just outside our door, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive. The only con was that we had a small leak in our toilet and our shower pressure was low and temperature inconstant. Other than that, we certainly enjoyed our stay and recommend this hotel to others. Within walking distance to several cafes, too. 17 September 2014
