San Juan

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 526 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Down time after visiting family and heading home My new vacation for just myself is to stay in San Juan before heading home to NY. I do this after staying with my family for either two weeks or six weeks, they live in Puerto Rico. This is my decompressing before heading back to the hustle and bustle of working. I can swim in the ocean, jacuzzi and pool all with in seconds of each other. The pool is clean and the perfect temp! Laying on the beach the service is there for drinks and something to eat, if you do not want to head to the bar. Everyone is helpful from taking bags at the front entrance to recommending local restaurants. Close to the airport so you can wait till the last minute to head out for the trip home. Would recommend to anyone that wants a great get away. 27 July 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful hotel I made a reservation for two rooms. Check in time was at 4 pm. However we got there at 5 pm and the rooms were not ready. We waited in the lobby for about three hours. Adding the 6 hour flight, my family was restless and disgusted. I went back to the front desk around 8:15 and questioned why it was taking so long. After a few phone calls, we finally got rooms in different floors. Not exactly what I asked when I made the reservation but at least we had somewhere to put our luggage. Since it was so late, I asked for a late check out and the front desk staff very politely told me "NO". As a former military member that travelled around the world for 23 years, I never encountered a problem like this one. Other than that the hotel is beautiful and the staff around the hotel was corteus and helpful. It is a shame... We go to Puerto Rico at least once a year, but I don't see myself going back to this hotel. 27 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Property on Beautiful Beach From the moment I entered the Intercontinental I knew I made a great choice. This was my first visit to Puerto Rico and I couldn't be happier with my choice of hotels. The property grounds are very well maintained. As an early riser I was able to see firsthand the maintenance employees working to keep the property as clean and beautiful as it is every day. The beach attached to the Intercontinental is really spectacular. There are wide expanses of very smooth sand that stretches for miles in both directions (although when going east you need to detour off the beach for a brief period). Their greatest strength is in their people. Everyone I encountered seemed to go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. My only complaint with the room was the door would not automatically shut and lock when leaving. You need to make a real effort to shut the door. Most hotel doors are weighted and will automatically close when pulled towards the exit as leaving. This may have been corrected already but if not the hotel maintenance folks should check out room 1520. PS- This room has an awesome view of the ocean and hotels pool. 27 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sweet Dreams, Sand, and Sun! For a fun weekend in San Juan, this is a great place to stay close to the airport, a grocery and on the beach! Enjoy a gorgeous sunset and a delicious meal on the beach. 25 July 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service Great staff, in good part of city, Nice pool and beach area. I always stay at the Intercontinentle while in Puerto Rico for the reasons stated above. I ended up staying an extra day and the front desk were very helpful, Lynal at the front desk also helped me contact the rental car company. Great hotel. 24 July 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Unexpected Pleasure We enjoyed our stay at Isla Verde's Intercontinental more than expected. The hotel itself is lovely with lush landscaping and beautiful pool and beach. The rooms are fresh and updated and very comfortable. I would suggest more hooks in bathroom to hang robes, towels etc. And I know it is only a french balcony with no furniture for the balcony, that is unfortunate. The bathrooms are very small, but I love that there is a bathtub in the bathroom and stayed at the hotel specifically because other hotels in area did not have bathtubs but only showers. Bathrooms could be freshened up at bit. The beach chairs are available at no cost but truly a hotel like Intercontinental should provide beach umbrellas at no cost as well. Ive never stayed at a resort where paying for an umbrella was required. Also the pool side bar needs more attentive service to both the out of water and in water sides of the bar. Poor and slow service. Some food was very good the fried appetizers not... too fried. The fresh fish was very good. Irene is a wonderful hotel manager, Nestor very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable concierge. Baron and Williams at the front door were exceptional and helpful. The front desk staff while friendly needs to be trained further in the area offerings such as restaurants and distances. The first night I was told that a restaurant was a ten minute walk and in fact it was nearly 40 minutes. I was not aware of the safety of the area and I have a bad back and foot. They need to be more attentive to details. Also please, there are wonderful area restaurants aside from the two always mentioned (Metropol and Platas). Please let people know about Mi Cassita, Atlantica, Ceviche House, and the Smoothie restaurants nearby or short taxi. All Excellent! Perhaps a list with names and locations of area restaurants could be provided at the front desk or concierge desk. The local bus to Old San Juan is excellent. The lasting impression of the Intercontinental was excellent and I would return and recommend to people I know. It is more tranquil than other hotels, which I prefer and everyone without exception was friendly and welcoming. Thank you 24 July 2014
