San Juan

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 580 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aa Was very happy and satisfied with the service and the positive Energy that the hotel team gave us. Very polite and nice. 11 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Experience Wow, what a great hotel!! Very friendly staff, beautiful swimming pool which is open 24/7, beautiful beach with very relaxing chairs and really beautiful room with the best hotel bed I've ever slept in. 11 October 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Elevators are very slow Nice hotel but elevators need some help.. wait times on elevators was very long.. and sometimes it would take you to your floor, but doors wouldn't open and then it would continue to another floor. In another instance, a lady was in a wheel chair and was trying to get to a floor and it just kept taking her to other floors.. 07 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Remarkable experience The property was beautiful despite some ongoing renovations. The staff was about as courteous and friendly as you could ever imagine. Great experience and we will be back soon! 07 October 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Food to expensive, bed hard as a rock, very noisy we had dinner on property the food value wasn't what i expected, asked for hot wings got regular wings, fish and chips tasted old and frozen, pizza was great, we had asked for bedding for the pull out couch the first time they brought a blanket and 6 towels we called back for sheets they never arrived, the noise level was terrible, the room accross the hall had teenagers staying in it and they were slamming the door like it was a contest well beyond 2:00 a.m. registered a complaint and nothing was done, Bell service was outstanding, our tour guide was the best we had all week, if i travel to that area again i will think twice about coming back... 04 October 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Could have been much better We had some issues, but Judith tried to make them right. While the attempt was good the details were lacking. We received a free bottle of wine for our troubles and supposedly a cheese plate. The wine came (no corkscrew) and the cheese plate never made it. We also received champagne and strawberries the next night, nice touch. The staff seems lackadaisical and sometimes rude. Just not what I have come to expect from an InterContinental brand as an Ambassador member. We were also supposed to get a free PPV movie with our stay and that was charged to the account. Basically I was sick of fighting and complaining so I just left everything as is so I could leave. The good - the grounds are very nice and scheduled improvements look to be awesome. The pool area, spa, and gym are well equipped, clean, fun, and relaxing. The best thing about this hotel is that you can walk right out onto the beach grab a chair, pay for an umbrella, and relax. The Ambassador member cocktail parties were very nice and made up for a lot. Proximity to the airport is great at about a 5-10 min drive. Bell staff was excellent and friendly. Would I go back after the improvements are done? Maybe. 04 October 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Stay while in construction Prices are the same even with all the construction and extra work i have to do go around the hotel, wifi internet quality poor, breakfast too expensive 03 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent even during construction! My whole family stayed at this property and we had a wonderful time. Everybody from the bellman to the front desk to the concierge to the wait staff was friendly and accommodating. The property is beautiful it will be even better when they finish the construction. You didn't even realize construction was going on during our stay the pool area was wonderful as was the beach area. Everybody went out of there to make our stay wonderful and memorable :) 02 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth every Penny Went down to PR to celebrate my sister's birthday and InterContinental couldn't have been a better choice. The staff were all very friendly and service/food were excellent. Really glad we stayed there. The casino team was by far the best customer service I've received from any casino. The floor managers were courteous and friendly and my dealer, Norma was such a sweetheart. Thank you!! 02 October 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional Resort Hotel I have stayed at the San Juan Intercontinental Hotel many times and have never been disappointed. The friendly staff makes for a pleasant memorable stay. The rooms are spacious and clean. The ocean view is a must. Great restaurants are located on the property and the IC is located close to Old San Juan. The staff booked several side trip and have lots to offer. 30 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Everything was great Staff and all were incredible making this the only hotel to stay in the area! 28 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excelent hotel. I love the sea view. Thanks for the room upgrade. Room is clean, confortable and preaty facilities. 27 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay Stayed for 5 nights and it was an excellent stay. Arrival night was not the best as was not recognized as Ambassador, but the Guest Relations Manager took great care of us early next morning and everything ran smoothly. Janice at the Club Intercontinental was great and Jesus also took great care of us at La Bodeguita. Room service was great and food cooked to perfection. 26 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service I stayed at your hotel as part of a Department of Education workshop series for counselors. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. 26 September 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Construction disaster You should warn guests that the hotel is undergoing renovations when booking. All the closed doors, covered windows, limited access to pool and beach made for an unpleasant experience. The rooms and furnishings very dated. Bed was the most uncomfortable ever. In suite doors very cheapish. Towels and linens should be renewed. The view from the hall on the club level is of a dilapidated building. You should put drapes up to block this unsightly view. The foods was subpar; both at the bar and the club level. The bar/restaurant staff should wear more appropriate attire 25 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Attentive and warm staff This was a return trip to this hotel , we spent our honeymoon here 40 years ago , yes 40 not 4 . It was the Americana in 1973 and IHG group has done a wonderful job in maintaining this property . There are changes of course but a beautiful place all the same . We were greeted warmly as we existed our taxi and luggage was taken immediately as we were told "you are on vacation .enjoy " We arrived at 2:30 and our room was available by 4:00 , ok we just had lunch on the beach while we waited . The staff greeted us by name if they were aware of #only took once for those we seen on a regular basis# . James and others staff members at the door, Nestor C at the concierge desk ,who suggested and booked us for dinner at Marmalade in Old San Juan and helped us with traveling about, Ida L. at breakfast greeted us warmly , made us feel like family , and provided excellent service , one of her co workers #I think Lestor# even taught us a little Spanish, Felix G. in the Club room made sure we were well taken care of during the 5-7pm Happy Hour# gourmet hors d'oeuvres with a good selection of beers , a white and red wine each night# Our only real disappointment was that the lobby was still under construction repair we were told when booking it would be completed or near so by our stay -not so much , be lucky to be done by November, they do to their credit made a effort to keep view of area obscured with temporary walls , also they were in the process of cleaning and painting the tower rooms on the Oceanside , We were informed in a note upon arrival and requested not to be place in room with that activity outside our room , we awoke with workers hanging outside our window , we did not complain thinking cleaning would pass quickly , but 3 days later still ongoing , we happened to be questioned about our stay that evening by a manager#Edgardo# while we were at Happy Hour... we told him about our room and he immediately looked and found another room for us on the Club level ,allowing us to see room prior to moving , which his staff helped with We took the positive on it 4 days ocean front with view after workers quit for day and 4 days with a courtyard/ocean side view , not ideal having to move but second room larger and staff did best able to make transition smooth. All in all a nice stay. as a side note there was more tax charge type added to bill that we did not anticipate , adding approx. 50 dollars per day to stay so be specific when asking questions when booking , I always know taxes and fees added but this was almost a 30% increase which we found high. 24 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 great service good experience .... ..... .. .................. 12 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by comfortable beds and good service comfortable beds, good service but very pricy restaurant and bar. 11 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bad start After traveling all day, we had to wait over two hours for our room to be ready. Arrived at the hotel at 3:30 with a 4 pm check in time. Room finally became available at 6:15. We were offered a complimentary meal at the bar after we had already eaten there as we waited. We were more tired than hungry. The comp meal was offered for a later date, but the bar was closed down later in the week for remodeling. We met other patrons that had to wait for their rooms. I expect better from IHG properties as I am a Platinum Elite member. Aside from a rocky start, the staff was very helpful all week long. Nestor, James, and Judith made us feel at home and were eager to help assist us with our needs. 10 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service Stayed with friends for a few days in August 2013. Odalys at the Front Desk was extremely professional and explained the amenities and services of the resort in detail. She recognized my Ambassador and Platinum status immediately. Roberto with Concierge Services was very helpful in setting up excursions in the area and Nestor was able to provide some nearby restaurant recommendations. Bell staff was always courteous greeting everyone and opening the door for all guests. Housekeeping was wonderful. 10 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good overall hotel experience Stayed three nights at Intercontinental San Juan from Sep 1-4. Great hotel with good service. Had an upgrade to ocean view rooms as a benefit for my Platinum Elite status, although I think it is one of the lower end of the Oceanview rooms at floor 8. Was also given a voucher to buy one get one free wine at a restaurant which i did not use, and a $25 match play coupon at its casino, which I won net $5 (you need to use cash to use the match play coupon). Nothing to complain about the room which is standard for Intercontinental hotel. Although we were a family with one kid, they only gave me a bottle of shampoo and conditioner each, and only two towels, so I have to call the front desk to get more, which was troublesome. Pool area was beautiful with several pools of different depths, and a jacuzzi, all open 24 hours, which was great for us. Beach area is just outside the hotel's pool area, and is really beautiful. Outside were several fast food restaurants and a 24hr supermarket makes it easy for me to stock up on water (The evain water in the hotel room cost $8.# Hotel added resort fee and taxes, which added around 32% on top of the room fee) , so be prepared for it. This was higher than the quote I was given when I booked the hotel at their website. There is a car rental in the hotel, but quite expensive at around $35 per day. I used carrental.com and booked at enterprise car rental for only $14 per day, which is at the El San Juan, a 5 min walk from the hotel. Did not have any meals in the hotel so no comments there. Hotel is only 10 min from the airport so very convenient by tax #paid $15 including tips). Bus T5 was very slow and erratic, and took an hour to get to Old San Juan. Wasn't affect much by the renovation as we went out most of the time during the day, but they are still doing some renovations when we were there. 10 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by James We found the valet parking staff to be extremely helpful, especially James who always made sure we knew where we were going, gave us a map umbrella towels etc....he and the other valet parking staff made our stay very very nice. 09 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay The great location right on the beach was only outdone by the accomadating staff. Every went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. 07 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Time I went to the Intercontinental and stayed for a quick weekend vacation with friends. Everyone had a great time and before we left, we were already talking about coming back to the property. 06 September 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Im not coming back. They promise me things and they did not do them. Is a bad experience when the first night you have to leave the room you pay for and sleep in a room you dont want to. 06 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Attending conference I just returned from a meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel in Isla Verde Puerto Rico. From the moment I arrived the staff was all smiles, warm and helpful. I arrived a bit early in the morning and because the hotel was full the prior night my room was not available. No big deal, I read the fine notes and know that the check in is at 4 PM. The hotel is going through some remodeling but you hardly notice it since they are working during the day while I was out on meetings or at the beach. The cutest little hard hat filled with goodies was waiting for me at the room with a note stating sorry for the inconvenience....Very nice touch. The hotel is on the beach in an enviable location. Made some money at the Casino so this guy is happy. The sushi Restaurant is great and if you are in the mood for some beach side eating the Mediterranean restaurant by the beach is the place to eat. Rooms are nice looking, balconies are great but if you can splurge a little more, try the Club Floor rooms. The morning breakfast and afternoon drinks and snacks are great and the staff can't do enough for you. Love this place, will recommend it to everyone alone, on business or traveling with families. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful stay and to the concierge for tll the "Local" knowledge! 05 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great service staff was helpful and able to guide us well. excellent receptions staff, valet parking staff and information desk staff. 05 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 A wonderful place to stay My first time to San Juan, partly for business and partly for pleasure. Couldn't have chosen a more perfect location. Staff was friendly and accommodating, the pool was sparkling clean each day. Food in San Juan is generally more expensive than I am used to, but the 24 hour market across from the hotel was helpful for snacks and extra brews after bar hours. Great location to the local bus stop, where we took the bus to old San Juan for less than a $1 each way. I felt safe at the property, and beach front access was wonderful. Will definitely be back! 03 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Birthday and Anniversary in August 2013 We had a great time and the service and amenities at the Intercontinental were a HUGE reason for that. Yes there was some construction underway but it doesn't impact the professional, helpful and courtesy staff from servicing your every need and want. Old San Juan is a short drive away by taxi and was very nice, the Bacardi tour is a must if you like good drinks and the history of rum. It was worth the trip and I will be back again in the near future. 30 August 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum Ambassador No benefits were afforded, not even a bottle of water. 29 August 2013
