Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Relaxing Long Weekend We wanted to sit by the pool or beach for a quick few days to relax before starting a new job. Mission accomplished! The Hotel pool was lovely with good landscaping and comfortable water temps at all times. Pretty, just like in the photos, and beach was appropriately scenic with soft sand. Bartenders at pool bars were helpful and friendly, and drinks were good quality and were priced competitively to other resorts. Lots of variety in tropical drinks. Location in Isla Verde was fairly quiet, and room was very comfortable, great bed with pillowtop and feather duvets. Super close to airport for maxium enjoyment even for a long weekend. Misc. Notes for guests: (1) Old San Juan is not close enough to walk, RT cab is 15 minutes but will be $42 before tip. We had already been to OSJ, so were not too concerned, but if you are planning to spend a lot of time there, consider transport, and if you rent a car, parking at hotel is $20 per day. We went into town 2 out of 5 days, for a walking tour and then a dinner and shopping. So ok to cab. Not practical to use bus, as schedules are "when they feel like coming" and it can take up to an hour to travel into OSJ by bus# #2# Hotel has four restaurants on site# Pool, Italian, Steak, and Japanese# Plus a lobby bar and room service# Meals are relatively expensive# Breakfast alone will set you back $20 - $30 pp if you don't include it in a room rate or have a credit# However# Ruth's Chris Steak House and the Trattatoria had solid Happy Hour Specials that were very good, for example we had a great steak sandwich at Ruth's as part of a $7 deal# The food at the Pool Bar also was surprisingly good, for burgers, salads, wraps, and fresh made pizza# #3# The hotel is across street from a strip mall with a mini mart and it's easy to walk to a larger supermarket and Walgreens, as well# You are less than 10 min from Subway, 2 Burger Kings, Chilis, a Ponderosa, etc# if you are into that kind of food, or need to save some cash# Easy to get sodas, beer, and snacks for the room if you want to balance out the higher cost of eating meals on site# Like being in mainland U#S# #not significantly higher priced, nice to know a pharmacy is close# #4# Local restaurant = Metropol, 15 min walk max - very busy even on a Sunday, and it earns its great reputation. Other local restaurants were harder to find, and food at other local restaurants was hit and miss, lots of fried items and not many vegetables anywhere. #5# Casinos on Isla Verde are small compared to US casinos, only a few blackjack and poker tables at the hotel, which seemed to fill with locals at peak playing times. Probably not the place to come if you are really interested in gambling, even though Isla Verde itself boasts that it has many casinos. #6# There are one or two other properties on the street which have a lobby bar and entertainment, that are worth venturing out to one night, to see the different facilities. Otherwise, there is not a lot of nightlife on Isla Verde, so consider that if you are more into a club or late-night -dinner scene. Minimal shopping on island. #7# Beach had lots of stinky seaweed when we were there in October, not sure if it is a time of year. Not a lot of people were swimming in the ocean, even though the sea was warm and it would be great if there were cleaner waters. If you are a beach swimmer, just be aware of that. Waves also are not very big. 15 October 2014
