INSIDER TIPS

LOCAL CULTURE

There is no obligation to tip in Australia

You are not obligated to tip in Australia. Australian's do believe in tipping when they have received good service though, so tip when you see fit.

Warm sunny days and cooler evenings

South East Queensland weather is a comfortable, sub-tropical climate. Temperatures average mid to high 20 degrees celsius all year round. When it rains on the Gold Coast, being sub-tropical any storm activity or grey skies tend to clear up quickly, and the sunny Gold Coast skies reappear.

Smoking

Smoking is banned from restaurants, shopping centers, bars, clubs, public transport, taxis and entrances to public buildings. There are dedicated areas for smoking which are clearly signed. Fines apply to individuals who smoke outside of these designated areas.

DID YOU KNOW ?

The Pines- Arnold Palmer Signature Course

As Australia's only Arnold Palmer signature course, The Pines is revered as one of Australia's best and most challenging courses. Carved through 101 hectares of established pine forest, the course features corridor approaches to several holes, with lakes guarding others. Fourteen of the holes are contoured around six man-made lakes. With a course rating of 74 off the black tees and 72 off the blue tees the course offers a very special golfing experience.

The Resort's Architectual Design

InterContinental Sanctuary Cove resort's Great House is of a distinct Queenslander design. Queenslander designed homes can be identified by the 'tin and timber' look and raised living spaces allowing for ventilation below which is needed during the Summer and Spring months of the year. This design was first introduced in 1840's and has been a permanent design feature in the state of Queensland with local governments implementing conservation laws to keep the distinct look in the local suburbs.

Sanctuary Cove

To celebrate the opening of Sanctuary Cove, five days of celebrations were held over the second weekend in January in 1988. International acts Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston headlined the two main concerts at the event which also saw performances from The Boy From Oz’s Peter Allen and legendary vocalist Julie Anthony amongst others. By day the entertainment line-up continued, showcasing the best of the Sanctuary Cove lifestyle with a full program of ultimate sporting events.

Home to Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is a four day event held annually at Sanctuary Cove. It is a key event on the Asia-Pacific Boat Show calendar, attracting more than 40 000 visitors (on average) each year. The Show displays a wide selection of marine products and services including superyachts, luxury power cruisers, power and sail multihulls, trailerable craft, kayaks, jetskis and watercraft plus engines, electronics, navigational gear and marine services.

Home to Native Wildlife

Sanctuary Cove is home to many native wildlife including kangaroos. The best time to view the kangaroos from a distance is at dawn or dusk when they are out feeding You’ll see them mainly on the golf courses. As they are wild animals it is strongly recommended that they are admired from a distance.

WHAT TO PACK

Sun Protection

With our beautiful sub-tropical weather it is easy to enjoy relaxing by the beach lagoon pool, however, be sure to pack SPF 30+ sunscreen, light clothing, and a hat and sunglasses to ensure you save your skin from the Queensland sun. It is best to stay out of the sun during the middle of the day when the UV rays are the strongest.

Australian power sockets

Australia's power sockets require a flat two prong plug resembling an upside 'V'. It is advisable to bring an Australian socket adaptor, however, there are international adapaters available from the concierge desk.

Quarantine

Australia has the strictest quarantine laws in the World because of its unique environment. Please ensure you do not bring any unprocessed food, fresh food, animals and animal products or plant material into the copuntry as heavy fines can be levied. There are also strict quarantine laws between states and fresh food can not be transported across state lines.
