We stayed at the InterContinental Hotel at Alpensia last X'mas and had a great time there. This year we decided to stay at InterContinental Seoul Coex during our Chinese New Year holiday break. The service at InterContinental Seoul Coex is excellent, the staff are helpful and attentive. It makes our holiday both an enjoyable and memorable one. Thank you InterContinental Seoul Coex.

Most of my hotel stays are low-key, low maintenance. I don't make a point to complain or play the victimized customer. That said, I was particularly interested in making sure my stay at the COEX went *perfectly*. So I began making requests to the hotel days before I even arrived. All of my emails were answered very quickly and very professionally. At times I encounter hotels that seem to have a problem with just the slightest request, i.e., a map of the city, or whereabouts of the local corner store. But I didn't think the InterCon would have any of these issues based on the professional way they responded to my emails. I arrived at the hotel early enough to check in, but running very late for my spa appointment. The representative at the desk checked me in quickly and with such ease. No attitude, no rudeness at all. Very friendly, very professional! Then the kicker: They even ensured all of my luggage was settled into my room while I finished my spa appointment! I'm no high class celebrity by any means, so this touch of courtesy was welcoming and further helped me relax after a long day. --Please understand, traveling up and down the elevator in a hotel, back out to your car, back inside, up and down, etc., etc. can take it's toll...especially if you're short on time or have traveled a long way. So going to my room and seeing my bags neatly placed inside was the icing on the cake.
The room was decent. I stayed in the "Elite King"; it was very neat, and very clean. It's probably not as user friendly as other hotels I've stayed--attempting to figure out the lights was weird--but it was welcoming and I enjoyed hanging out. I stayed on the 29th floor and had a wonderful view of the Han River, and also a view of the temple. I have to thank the Reception Desk for ensuring I had a great view. Another thing were the amenities...like WATER. I get so tired of being charged for a bottle of water. Well, the InterCon had TWO bottles daily, gratis. I was able to stay hydrated without having to leave my room--which was another comfort. It's these little things that assist in making a normal stay "great". There was a television menu in my native language--another point for great attention to detail since this was an international hotel. The bathroom was also nice and very clean. Another thing: I forgot my iPhone charger (surprise), but the room had a charger that I could hook up my USB cord, and that was a nice thing as well.
Valet: I used the valet. It was one set price for the entire stay, and if anything, I would invest in the valet over the wifi. That's just my opinion.
Spa: I scheduled services at the hotel spa, and I can't say enough great things about it. The biggest thing was I had been in contact with the spa over the last few months, and the prices increased for the new year. The representative graciously charged me the old year pricing since she knew I didn't have the newest menu. This to me shows extreme care for the customer. I truly appreciated the thought. The pricing hadn't changed by much, but the time invested in the service did change a lot, but I was still given the utmost care and service. I also said I was late...but they still gave me the time it took for all the services. I wish there were rooms where I could relax in hot baths/relaxation rooms that are connected to the spa. There is a fitness area, but it's on a different floor. And the way the spa is set up, it would be weird if you walked out in your robe to go to a different floor to use those services. I didn't ask though, so perhaps there could have been a way to do that. If you have a chance, use the spa. The prices are about the same no matter where you go in Seoul, so it's a matter of choice. I would put INSpa on the short list. My skin is still nice and soft.
Restaurant: I did not have a chance to dine in the Sky Lounge as it was fully booked--and very, very expensive (almost the price of a spa treatment or room stay). I opted to go out in the city. The breakfast buffet was big, comfortable, and there were many choices of hot and cold foods in which to choose. The pricing was par for the course in line with all of the hotel's prices. One thing I noticed was a lady came around about 30 minutes prior to the end of breakfast letting us know when it closed. Also, there were families who were rushing down at the very last minute and they were able to get the same full breakfast options--no choices disappeared 15 or 20 minutes prior like in other areas. I enjoyed hanging out in the breakfast buffet area and people watching.
Concierge: The concierge I dealt with was very friendly and knowledgeable. On this particular situation, I have to say that I wish he might have taken more "hints" in where I wanted to go for dinner. I was dressed up...sparkly dress, high heels, makeup. So I wanted to dine in a romantic area. I guess I had a hard time communicating that as I never thought to make reservations anywhere in advance. He did make a couple of calls for me, which was awesome. He referred me to a chain restaurant, but it wasn't "fancy" for what I was looking for. In the end, it all worked out, and his initial call to one place (my suggestion) helped me get the service I so desired since I have dietary restrictions. I had a great time, and I don't think I would have if Peter hadn't called ahead.
My title says "high class, down to earth" which is very true. Everything in the hotel had an air of sophistication, but not so hoity toity that you didn't feel as if you couldn't touch anything without gloves. I truly felt as if I were the only person staying at the hotel at times. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and very helpful. I saw business people and kids running around, but it was still okay. It's a hotel for all types of travelers. I will come back!
