The iron in my room had a rusted/corroded plate. I rang reception for a replacement. None arrived. I then saw the room attendant when she came to service the room. She replaced it with an iron with less rust/corrosion but still not a 5 star piece of equipment. I told her it was not acceptable. I left the room. Upon my return there was a 3rd iron in situ still with a rusty/corroded plate.
I went to Plan B and took the iron down to Reception and gave it to the staff there and asked to be given one that was not in the same condition.
A new iron was delivered to my room within half an hour.
Not a deal breaker but just kind of silly for an Intercontinental hotel.
The only other comment I have is re the complimentary tea and coffee. Always appreciated but seriously poor in quality. Sachets of instant coffee are so old hat now. There are other options more suited to a 5 star hotel. And complimentary cookies are so sadly missed. Bring back the cookies!!!!

Currently doing some renovations inside (and outside) of the hotel so there is a lot of noise late at night and early in the morning - better planning for working is needed (other than 6:30am on a Saturday morning and shutting off water during the day on the weekend).
The challenge for the hotel is that, even as a top tier member, they do not offer the same benefits as other chains do for top tier members. In a city such as Shanghai there are many options and it is easier to get more benefits at a different hotel.
Otherwise the location is great for the subway, various stores, and restaurants. Also the hotel staff is friendly and willing to help.

The suite room @ excutive floor is very nicely structured, in a way which is different vs the suite in other hotels, I love the TV in the middle of room which can be turned by 360degree, and the overall style of the room.
The room sevice (in room Diner) was very nice, staff was able to properly serve the meal and can always keep warm smile during the converstations.
Also it is not fa away from HQ airport, and not difficult to get a taxi.

This hotel is in Pudong, so, mean, close to center and the river... Staff were very nice with us, more especially at the Lounge. These employees, at the lounge, took care of us very much, they were very helpful and friendly. Honestly, it's the best side of this hotel. It's i come back later, it's just for that! I had an upgrade to a suite, i can not complain, but, its was very noisy around our room the week-end we went... Many renovation... painting and clean... but... On my floor level, they decide to clean all the Air Cond Unit/Roof in all room, early, a sunday morning... So, they woke-up us early and without advise... It's let me a bit negative about this hotel... Also, the saturday morning, they renovate and use very noisy tools in the restaurant, during the breakfast... (Can wait 1 or 2 hours...). The building is a bit old, i can understand some clean-up or repair are required, but, it's wasn't well managed...

I have a free drink voucher upon check-in and it is very generous by being a IHG member. However, when I went to the bar, I wanted to know what can I get from the voucher if I order a glass of red. The waitress refused to let me know and gave me a very unsatisfying answer. I paraphrase, she said we serve whatever is available.

I was upgraded to 15/F ( 1516 ) during check-in, which is the premium membership floor I believe.
When I was in the room, I called up operator and confirm my services entitlement for Internet, Breakfast and lounge access.
However, when I stop by the lounge on Wednesday, after I collect the fruit and at my table, I was told that I am not entitled to the lounge access and so I left with embrassment and confuse.
While not able to use the lounge for breakfast, I spent the other morning for breakfast at ground floor cafe and again, disappointed by the services at the cafe, it always took more than 10 minutes for coffee and I really do not enjoy the quality of the coffee neither.
I have been staying in lot of 5 Star Hotel and Customer services is only my number 1 criteria for Hotel selection, and with the servies I obtain in last week, I definitely would not consider Intercon Pudong as my choice of Hotel in Shanghai again.

InterContinental is a reputable worldwide brand and that was the reason I booked at this hotel however InterContinental Pudong exceeded my expectations. The staff at this hotel were helpful, friendly, kind and always cheerful. With their knowledge and willingness to help I managed to comfortably travel through the city to see all the iconic sites and with their inside knowledge to the city I got some great tips on dining and shopping and I was never once disappointed. I highly recommend staying at this hotel for a great, true Shanghai experience. Xie xie (Thank you) InterContinental Pudong! I will be sure to return.

As a Platinum member of IHG I stay with Holiday Inn & Crowne Plaza quite regularly, usually a very nice experience. I never stayed at Intercontinental brand before, so I wanted to experience the service & luxury of this major IHG brand as a present for my wife on a weekend.
Was okay, but nothing special, definitely didn't meet my expectations.
What was good?
Breakfast was one of the best we had so far in a hotel
What was bad?
At check-in I was not recognized as Platinum member, I didn't get any upgrade, even though the hotel was not really occupied (actually I got a room with view on the main road instead of view of PuDong city)
Bed was kind of soft, it was okay, but Crowne Plaza bedding is better
Road noise in the room
I asked for late check-out till 15:00, reception didn't allow it, just agreed on 14:00 - why arguing and negotiating with customers for this difference of 1 hour?
Concierge gave us a taxi, where the driver already jelled at him and us when we got close to the taxi - but the concierge forced him to take us instead of calling one of the waiting taxis around the hotel. The taxi driver just took as around the corner and stopped again and asked us to leave the car - so we had to walk back to the hotel and start all over again
There are hotels at much better location in PuDong
All over all, it was okay, but nothing special. Wouldn't go there again for leisure, I will stick to Holiday Inn & Crowne Plaza, who really recognize me as loyal customer..

The staff was outstanding, and very attentive. They remembered my name when I came back for another stay. You could pay more for other hotels in Pudong; but why would you, given the level of service here? Great value.

Again Shanghai and again the INTERCONTINENTAL PUDONG.
The Hotel was nice as every other stay. The Buffet for Dinner is fantastic. You have such a big choice of nice food. It is a big value for everybody.
The Buffet for Breakfest is also as good as always. Fresh Orange Juice, Croissants and a very good Cappucino! One of the best in Shanghai, maybe...
The staff was very helpful, no matter what was needed.
I will come again in July and i have already made my choice where to stay this time. Guess where?

Overall, the service is excellent. The staff are very attentive and thorough (from housekeeping to the food outlet). Being an older property, the hotel rooms and the physical environment may need some upgrading. The location is excellent.

Typically when I visit Shanghai, I will stay in a local hotel which is considerably cheaper and also more basic in amenities, but this time, I decided to try a "better" hotel and stay in the Intercontinental Pudong. My experience started off poorly when the check-in staff were mostly "trainees" and did not seem to be fully trained. Not sure why so many trainees were working at a prime hour of 5 pm. First, they could not get my credit card to work and then when I repeatedly asked about the wait time it would take to get a taxi they could not understand and answer properly (in Chinese and English).
The second problem was that there was construction going on constantly all day which was very loud and could not be avoided. Due to the design of the hotel, no matter where you are, you can hear the sound of the construction. Awful. To make it worse, there was a party on the main floor at night that was also very loud. When the construction stopped at 5 or 6 pm, then the party noise started and kept going until 9 or 10 pm. It was a continual stream of loud and interrupting noise.
The only good thing about my stay at the hotel was the quality of the gym. I loved the gym. The staff was friendly, nice, and very helpful. The gym itself was kept at a great temperature, the equipment was new and working (minus the TVs, some technical difficulties), but otherwise, I was very satisfied with the gym.
Overall, the price for the quality was not worth it. I think there are many other hotels in Shanghai that cost as much or slightly less that will have trained check-in staff and no construction or noise disturbances throughout the day. May be worth staying at when the construction is completed.

I wish i had been informed that the health facilities were undergoing renovations as this would have impacted my decision to stay in the hotel
royal ambassador upgrade policy doesnt make sense to me from a commercial point of view (going from business suite to normal club room sounds like a downgrade)

I have stayed a lot at Intercontinental Pudong - it is always a great plessure to come back. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The hotels location close to Pudong Financial district and subway makes it perfect. The food is great and very enjoyable.
I can only recoment this hotel.

Room 1702 in Shanghai Pudong Intercon is terrible. The water noice from the pipe is so noisy that you can not get to sleep. Most terrible is that the water pipe seems to be very close to the bed, so you can not get away from its noise.

Specially from management view, there is process, no control and no management.

Loved this hotel and would rate it a 5 out of 5 except for the lack of service at the main entrance. My friend and I got there from the airport only to have to lug our suitcases out of the taxi trunk on our own, and then lug it all the way to the front desk without absolutely anyone helping us. I'm not sure if this is a "DIY" hotel, but I find that hard to believe. That was the only downside to it. Otherwise it was a great experience.
