Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dadefung Almost a good hotel
Building is amenities are pretty good (I guess because it is quite a new hotel). However, every time I have stayed there, I experienced problems, one kind or another. Last time, AC did not work properly and had to send for technician to fix who managed to blow the fuse. Not once my status as platinum status was recognized upon check in. Reservation was mishandled as I was charged for breakfast on the first morning but not the second morning. After checking my reservation again, breakfast should have been included. Receptionist and concierge are the biggest problems with this hotel. Not only are they not helpful but they did not even make up for it with friendliness.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Great club lounge and very comfortable rooms
I recently at this hotel in Shanghai. I had a beautiful suite with a great bed and panoramic views of the river. The location lends itself to walking or jogging along the river front for exercise. Additionally, the heated indoor pool is extremely large and great for swimming laps. The Club Lounge offered a vast array of food and drinks. I was there for an entire week, and the food every evening in the Lounge was different which was welcome. The staff seems relatively new and thus not very knowledgeable about the area. Also, very few have command of the English language -- it was hard to communicate with the front desk and concierge. There are no restaurants within walking distance that are desirable. The dining select within the hotel is limited to an Italian Pizza place and a fancy Catonese restaurant. The lobby "restaurant" is simply a buffet which is not appetizing. There are two bars in the restaurant which the hotel leases out for private events. I was there 7 nights, and only one of the bars was open to hotel guests on one of the nights I was there. Needless to say, the bar and restaurant aspect needs to be improved.

Overall - the property, the rooms, the restaurants and the staff were excellent. My only comment was that the toiletry kit was missing toothpaste. Don't know what happened - usually this is bundled together with the toothbrush.
Also, due to the holiday, several restaurants were closed.
But again, the overall experience was excellent.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Excellent hotel
This was my second stay and I have already booked my third. The hotel is really nice and the Club Lounge has a nice selection of drinks, incl Champagne.
As an Ambassador I have been upgraded to a suite both times and they are extremly nice. A great home entertainment system by Bose, good iPhone dock by the bed and an excellent Espresso machine in the living room. The bathroom is of utmost quality as well with a huge round bathtub as well.
I truly recommend this hotel. Some might say it is a bit far away, but taxi is cheap in China plus you can also grab a taxi to the nearest subway not far away from the hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DanteIV lack of service in breakfast
No staff guide you to a vacant seat for breakfast.
Table was not immediately cleaned and setup for next guest, which leads to the fact that sometimes hard to find a place to sit down during "rush hour".
The staff who prepare fried egg and omelet was rude both two morning of my staying.
No receptionist at the Platinum/Ambassador desk to provide express check in/out.
A part from the "unpleasant" breakfast experience, it is a great hotel and I am satisfied with everything else.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MrCheng disappointing Shanghai Expo
Checked in at 12 midnight, front desk clerk seemed very inexperienced regarding upgrade for Platinum card holder and claimed that there are no access to executive floor even for Platinum member. However, he claimed that if it is first time I stay at that hotel, then I am entitled to executive floor upgrade. He is aware that I presented a Centurion card to him, so it is clear that Centurion card holder is not treated any differently.
After checked in the room, found the TV in bathroom is on, but no remote control could be found to turn it off. The explanation was more rediculous that no room is equiped with remote controls and this TV was maybe turned on by the neighbor because the signals traveled through the wall, but they failed to explain why the neighbor may have a remote. They finally sent a technician and turned off the fuse box to turn off the bathroom TV. Because of this incident, the manager next morning offered an upgrade to executive floor access.
Found the Spa package is off little use for business travelers as they close at 10pm. So if a business executive is too busy to schedule any time before 9pm, it is useless.
On the date of check out at 8:30am at executive floor, the female clerk did not know how to operate Fapiao (tax receipt) printing, so that wasted another 10 minutes of guest time.
So with many nice hotel choices in Shanghai now, and privileges offered such as free executive floor upgrade for the highest level of membership (diamond, platinum, black, etc.), the services have to catch up, otherwise there are no competitiveness.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by FrankyUSA GOOD HOTEL TO STAY
The location is not too convinient, half time the taxi driver does not know the place. However, it is pretty good view at the hotel. Room is ok but fantastic vew to the river! Staff are all ok in general. They do not know how to service high end customers that make them no differences than Crowne Plaza, not even compared with Holiday Inn in Qingdao. They need to check out, compare themselved with other InterContinental, such as Dalian and Hangzhou... even with Marriott at City Center of Shanghai, a similart hotel but Sales are much more professional.
In general, good hotel for ordinary stay but not expecting high end services.....

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Neca Welcome at the airport
When arrived at the airport I saw a placard showing Intercontinental Hotel. I approached the staff and I was left with somebody to provide a shuttle to the hotel. There was no shuttle but a private taxi imposed to me for 650,00 Yuan even when I requested for help to get Maglev which I knew it arrives quite near the hotel.
It is a shame that staff at airport is passing clients to a private company hiring taxis for such a high price and time consuming

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by RMistry Shame some places were closed.
We booked this hotel for a "staycation" as my wife is pregnant and wanted to use the pool. Three were several hotels on offer during the lunar new year but we were told this had a great pool and spa.
On arrival we were given a letter which informed us that the spa, Italian restaurant and pub was closed during our stay. I asked if I could speak to the manager (James) but that was declined. The duty manager who was there wouldn't speak to us neither and told the receptionist to tell us that they would pass on our annoyance to James. We were told they would respond but we have not heard from James yet.
The room was clean and very nice, likewise so was the bathroom. The lights didn't work properly but not major issue. We had booked an executive room so we could use the lounge. The afternoon tea especially the cakes were fantastic, the best we have had in any 5 star hotel in shanghai. The evening snacks on the other hand were poor and not replenished enough. Some items were old and had been put out several times. Labels would also have been useful. The wine and drink selection was also great.
Breakfast was also good and so was the room service.
All in all the hotel is good but not in the best location, nothing much around. We were very disappointed that we were not told in advance about the hotel closures.
James (GM) did contact me a few days later to apologise and offered a complimentary stay, so thank you for that.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kenyue good facility, good service, quite location
I would say the overall experience here is very good. Hotel openned in 2010, carpet are clean, rooms are nice, as a Ryal Ambassador, I can enjoy the free mini bar, and also the club lounge.
I would recommend a riverview corner room or the suite.
Hotel gym and swimming pool are good. and staff are very friendly.
Most of the guess are regular business travellers, you will see some familiar faces time to time.
I would like to buy one scale from the hotel, hopefully, I can pick it up next time I stayed here.
The location is in Pudong area, close to Yangpu Bridge, somehow, there are only few restaurants around (1, or 2), anyway, it's only 20 minutes taxi away from the downtown area, and the area expends, this would be better I guess. Very convenient to Pudong and Hongqiao airport, not quite oftern caught up in heavy traffic.

Had a great stay here before during the Shanghai Expo. This time came back for a business trip and still find it very satisfying. Rooms are comfortable, staffs are friendly and the pool is excellent. Getting back and forth from Pudong business area was quick and easy.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bigbirduk Room OK, attention to detail and overall service lacking
I was staying in the IC Expo as my normal IC Hotel (Pudong) was closed for refurbishment - I hope it re-opens soon!
Overall the rooms and staff are adequate but I was badly let down upon the morning of my departure. The night before departure I had booked (AND HAD CONFIRMED) a hotel car to drive me to Pudong Airport early on the day of departure.
When I checked out and asked about my car I received blank looks and "sorry, but there is no car booked". After much debate and fruitless checking I was quite angry by now. When I said "how about the shiny London Cab outside the main entrance" I was told the driver could not be located.
The solution? Stand in the queue outside and wait for a normal cab. This took a very long time and I only just made my flight to Europe.
Sorry IC Expo, this is my lasting memory of my otherwise nice stay there.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Taoist Excellent business hotel
Having stayed in Expo Intercontinental for two years whenever possible, the hotel becomes my home and office on my business trips.. The club is an attraction on its own right, with very friendly and competent club staffs, the spectacular view over the river where one can enjoy the parade of ships, ocean giants and river barges, dreaming of world from far away. Surely, it is a view of metropolis, high rises and bridges, but very special. Location is convenient for business travelers, free parking and easy access, slightly constraint for non- chinese speaking tourist or first time Shanghai visitors.
The health club, swimming pool and sauna are the best among the new hotels in china. The Chinese restaurant offers excellent cuisine. The Italian restaurant offers good alternative once you may long for European taste after too many banquets.

Overally good to stay within Hotel. Well ordered & cleaned rooms are waiting for you.
But if you'd like to experience Chinese special as like massage then you'd better go out by taxi from Hotel.
If your company or business partner is located in Shanghai science industrial zone, you'd better stay Hotel closer from them for heavy traffic jam in the morning.
Food taste at 1F in the morning was very good with many fruits, dishes & juice except for Japanese miso soup & Noodle with vegetables. In dinner time, it's very simmilar with moring time. But becareful if you'd like to eat a steak, it was cold & no good taste. It need to be improved as for real Intercontinental Hotel.
