A nice hotel to stay in. The front desk spoke my room number immediately when I checked out. Pity that I have to head to next destination and can't enjoy this hotel longer. Hope I can get chance to come back again

this hotel is new to the IHG, they have had it for about a year now. the progress is amazing as I stayed there right after they took it over and then I stayed there for 4 months starting in July ending in November.
everyone there will go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one and couldn't have been happier.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Touristpassingby Good location, excellent surrounding, classy deco, comfortable beds and friendly services.
I booked under a special promotion for 3 nights but I was given a room which was surprisingly elegant and well laid out. The beds were as comfortable as other IHG hotel that I have experienced. I did not have a chance to use any of the eating outlets so I could not make any comments but the location is outstanding with the hotel environment and ambient which put her as a gem among all the hotels in shanghai.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Alex1616 Fantastic experience in a heritage hotel with beautiful gardens
I travel to Shanghai quite frequently and having lived in this city for 5 years, I would recommend the hotel as the location is ideal for moving around Puxi/ west bank of Shanghai. The hotel is beautifully restored from early 20th century heritage mansion with a new tower wing purpose-built. The rooms are modern, opulent and elegant. If you prefer the modern minimalist type, this is not for you. The most beautiful part of staying here is you feel you are in a green and quiet oasis right in the heart of the largest city in China.
Being a new hotel, it has its teething problems in the beginning but I have seen improvements over the past three months most notably the staff are better-trained now. Haven't quite tried the food and drinks but they are pretty quiet for now, except weekends where are are many weddings taking advantage of its beautiful garden settings, especially in Autumn and Spring.
The only problem that has yet been fixed is it is hard to get a taxi inside the hotel as it is in the middle of a big garden and taxis don't normally come in, plus it is right smack in the busiest part of city so it is hard to get a taxi especially on rainy or cold days. If the taxi issue can be resolved, this will be my favourite hotel in Shanghai, and probably the best few in Asia.
Keep up the good work, and hope Shanghai will always have a top-class hotel like this gem in this part of town.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by RoyalAmbassadorSG Good Heritage, Poor Service
Even though the building is old, it comes with very nice old Shanghai footprints, attractive pictures and high ceilings. Probably due to the recent takeover of hotel management by the IHG, the leftover veteran staff from the previous management do not live up to the speed and quality of international service standard.
1. Shanghai heritage building and deco
2. A different taste of Executive Lounge setting and nice old songs
3. Spacious surroundings with garden and man-made waterfall.
1. Below average service level - slow, reactive and lack of "smile"
2. Do not treat the loyalty guests as important as they should be
3. Poor check-in process
4. No formal receipt printing machine at the Executive Club building.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by nativesh excellent location, building and room decoration, poor service
I have been this hotel many times, I have encountered a couple of times problems in service, all occured in the second building.
1) I first checked in by the reception of the main building (Sept ?), but when I reached the second building and I asked the small reception that i wanted to extend my stay for extra day, the lady told me that the room I got the key was already reserved by a delegation and I had to moved to another room in the same building. When I asked if there is another room available for me, why that room cant be for the reservation, that lady couldnt answer, but insist that I must move. So I felt I was discriminized.
2) when I this time (26-28 October) again lodged in the second building, and went to breakfast (27 oct), there was no body served me and guided me to a table (on the groud floor of the second building). I selected a table and put my dish on that table and went for a drink. A male servant (Caucasian look) took my dish and walked to me and aksed me to leave that table, said that has been reserved for someone else. When I asked for a table, that guy pointed to a tea table besides a couch and asked me to use that. I told him that that is not a table for breakfast, but he insisted that there no other table available and I must take that one. The ended up that I left that room to go to the resturant in the main building.
All in all, these service personnel seem far below the standard of a professional. the way to treat the customers like 30 years ago......

You can't image there is such a beautiful place in downtown Shanghai. It's located in a big garden with some historic buildings. If you want to touch the old Shanghai feeling, just stay there. It gives you very special memory.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JasonM184 Nice hotel, will definitely come back
It's traveling back in the 40s of Shanghai, everything is so nostalgic, the chandelier in the room, the library in the club lounge, the big garden...everything is so perfect, a perfect hideaway from the city.
But there is one drawback though, the toilet got stuck..and I called room service to get it fixed and went to the gym..
yet 1.5 hours later when I got back to the room, no one has shown up to take care of the toilet issue. Had to call again to fix it.
But other than this, things are perfect!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MurrayH Paradise in a city of 28 million people!
If one seeks a place to escape the hustle and bustle of Shanghai and its 28million inhabitants, then look no further than The InterContinental Hotel, Shanghai Ruijin.
The General Manager and all his staff are fantastic. They truly embody the InterContinental ethos and genuinely care about each and every guest and treat them all as friends, not clients.
Our trip to China was the first overseas trip for our three children (13, 10 and 6 years of age) and the level of service, the attention to detail and the genuine care shown by the hotel staff made the journey effortless and trouble free.
The hotel's wonderful location (near the French Concession) and its setting in park like grounds makes this property unique - especially in such a metropolis. Our children certainly enjoyed being able to run through the gardens and have the feel of grass between their toes!
As a Platinum Ambassador I was welcomed at the property as a close friend, even though it was my first visit to this property.
Words cannot adequately describe how wonderful our stay was - I encourage anyone planning on visiting Shanghai to stay at this property and experience true service for themselves!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hernan A gorgeous hotel with heritage
This is a really beautiful hotel with lots of European colonial flavor. The french garden is none to any other hotel except Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. A great place to hold wedding and any important events that desire happy memory. However, parts of the hotel are still under renovation during my visit and the construction setup is an eye sore to me.
I find the staff are enthusiastic and pleasant to interact with. Small service details may need to be enhanced with better staff training, but nothing was so unusual that can prevent me to call this hotel to be a five star hotel very soon. It is going to be challenging for the new management to turn a government run facility into a total commercial service business.
The bath is new and up to the high standard. Location is great if you are interested in downtown living. Subway station is close by and convenient.
The food was not impressive by my criteria, but not worse than any other 5-star hotel. My great disappointment was that Champagne is not available at the Club Lounge like other Intercontinental hotels.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jany1454 Not worth to be an Intercontinental
Cannes and Paris Le Grand, he Willard in Washington, that are real Intercontinental Hotel, also Hangzhou..... But Ruijin has much to learn, if it ever will be one. It will be a Hard Way to there, but with the actual staff they will not be successful.
Poor Attitude, poor English, Bad behavior those young guys, no skill.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Star168 Very nice building and environment but lots of room for improvement
1. Hotel wifi was not working in the first room that I got. The hotel staff later arranged to change my room to one on the first floor which has stronger wifi signal.
2. The first floor room turns out full of mosquitoes so I couldn't sleep whole night.
3. The billing system was not setup correctly. The bill said that I was offered a choice of currency to pay but it defaults to charge my credit card in my home currency and the hotel staffs did not know how to change the charge to RMB.
4. The breakfast spread was not as great as the other Intercontinental that I've stayed before in the greater Shanghai region.
5. The wifi requires my iPhone to log on with username and password every single time I use it. The hotel staff couldn't resolve this problem.
6. There is no taxi waiting outside so have to book in advance. The taxi that I booked came late by 15 mins.

Very nice environment to be in particularly considering you are staying in Shanghai City Centre. I doubt if I can find anything like that in other hotels in nearby area. Excellent room service food and tremendous breakfast buffet offered. Front desk people were nice and keen. The only setback was the laundry service I had although that should have been settled.

I Love Intercontinental, all of them, was in Williard Washington, Clement Monterey, San Fancisco, Berlin, Berchtesgarden, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Beijing both, souzhou, Shanghai Pudong, Expo, Old Puxi, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Thousand Island, Sanya,, Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris, Amsterdam, New York....and many more
all Five Star, no complains
But Ruijin is not worth to be called Intercontinental. Staff with High Mose is not able to communicate with their guests, which are their customers. Seems the staff are the Kings, they do not need guests
I wrote my complains to Intercontinental Customer Care (they always do a great Job), they told Hotel Management will take care, no,answer, I wrote directly to the MD of Ruijin, no answer.

it's great to have such an intercontinental hotel in the centre of Shanghai. Surrounded by gardens and fountains, you could enjoy the peace in this modern city.
The staff and service is also comply with the intercontinental standard.
A special price which i booked directly from the official site made the entire experience more worthwhile :)

I have stayed in the hotel several times, and I really like it. The hotel is situated in a small park and is really quiet. Rooms are perfect and the area in which the hotel is situated, is also in my mind among the best in Shanghai.

I want to commend the staff of the hotel for the excellent job they did. If there was a 6 star rating, this hotel would get it. While the facilities are wonderful, it was the staff that made the experience. They went over the top to help.

I was pleased to be back in IC Shanghai Ruijin again with my family. The manager kindly provided me with the same suite I stayed in. Always great to escape in the oasis located in heart of Shanghai. The temperature in both lobby and room was too low, probably 22C, which is not energy efficient.
