Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location and Service Really excellent courtesy and attention from all front of house staff throughout my stay. I arrived at 0830 and despite the early hour I was made very welcome and was given access to my room at 1000. The Duty Manager also made himself known to me, too. The hotel is right outside Shinegawa Station so getting there from Haneda Airport is very easy and quick (16 mins). 11 August 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Business Stay Great hotel for a business trip. Reasonably priced for Tokyo, although the rooms are a bit small. The hotel is located on the 26th floor of an office building, which makes for slightly longer elevator wait times, but other than that, I had an excellent experience. 04 August 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 verry good location a lovely hotel of a very high standard, situated a short walk under cover from the Shinagawa station a bit difficult to find reception [ travel on the Narita express from the airport , go out the eastern exit at shinagawa station turn right along the elevated walkway , signs here a bit confusing, don't keep going as the sign would appear to indicate but enter the East One Tower follow the hotel signs, get the elevator to the 26th floor for reception.or if arriving on the limousine bus look ahead to the right go up the steps into the foyer of east one tower look for hotel signs on the left of the wall in front of you, take elevator to 26th floor.]. The staff have a good level of English and are very thoughtful and helpful. Coffee in the restaurant is very expensive.Otherwise it is 10/10. 02 August 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Vacation in Tokyo We stayed 5 nights at the hotel in Shinagawa. The hotel was chosen because of the location close to the station and it was perfect for us as we wanted to see a lot of Tokyo. Very easy to get to the station even with big suitcases. Fantastic view from our room which we enjoyed day and night. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. We missed an outdoor swimming pool though and the breakfast is not value for money. 17 July 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Efficient and friendly service, convenient location Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Everybody was friendly and polite. Anyway I believe in general you would not expect less in the service industry in Japan. The location is very convenient. You need to walk a few hundred meters from the trains gate, but it is all covered. So it should not be a problem in any weather. The airports Haneda and Narita are easily reachable via train. The Shinkansen also stops in Shinagawa. Since in Japan life revolves around the station, you can find most things in the vicinity, including restaurants. 12 June 2014

Although tea and coffee service is self-service, the price is almost same at the same level hotel restaurant "over 4000yen". I would like to recommend that to get breakfast at outside. 07 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, breakfast not good value for money My third stay at The Strings in 3 years. Each visit has been primarily business with some leisure (no family members). A clean, well presented hotel, it has a premium feel to it. Room sizes are fine and facilities good overall, but could learn a lesson or two from smaller, upmarket boutique hotels when it comes to hot drink making facilities. The hotel has revised the breakfast set up each time I've visited, but it never quite hits the mark. On the latest trip this December, cold buffet is standard and all hot food is now cooked to order from the kitchen and fairly limited choice (in the past they had an omelette station, sadly missed). Price, even for the buffet, is pretty steep even by 5-star hotel standards and not reflective of the choice available. Fitness/leisure facilities are also fairly basic for a hotel this size; I love to swim when I'm travelling and really miss not having access to a pool when I stay here. Overall, it's conveniently located, well presented and a pleasant place to rest your head, but more suited for business travellers than those at their leisure, especially families. And, eat out, not in! 20 December 2013

Hotel location gives convenient excess to Shinagawa station with Shikansen to various destination, Narita Airport express and JR Yamanote Line. Like to stay there again. Love it ! 04 October 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stayed last April returning this July My stay at The Strings was memorable in the very best way. I cannot wait to return this July. The staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and a delight to be around. The directions to the hotel are very easy when you copy them off The Strings website. While traveling I had an emergency at home the concierge was so helpful and able to reroute my flight and handle all of the little problems that entailed. The Continental breakfast included what was the best pastries I have ever tasted. One savory with asparagus the other sweet with pecans, both a perfect balance of flavors. Being a cook I so appreciate exceptional cooking with the best ingredients. The king room was spacious, completely comfortable with a lovely detached bathroom and a deep bath tub to sink down into. I have told my contractor my goal is for him to duplicate my room at The Strings here in Hawaii. I am positive this hotel will be the one I come back to year after year when I visit Tokyo. This is not doubt a great Intercontinental hotel, and I'd prefer this location better than one in Akasaka due to the fact I get more quiet time alone instead of city life there. Also, far better than other American brand hotels in Tokyo Ginza area, which treats customers poorly. My only big negative with Shinagawa String is the breakfast service. Used to be full breakfast, but now it's very poor designed continental style. Choice is poor and tastes lacking. Seems they are trying on something new, but it ain't working (and my colleagues who stayed with me agreed) Perhaps this is for Asian audience, but if they want American or any Western audience to be satisfied, I'd recommend bringing back the good ol' fashion full breakfast service there. For the price, I'd recommend taking the elevator and grab something from the street level. Again, the hotel itself is nice and staff is one of the best Ive seen in Japan. 03 April 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a Hotel Should Be I can't imagine a finer hotel experience. The staff are amazing; they strike the perfect balance between welcoming and professional. The neighborhood isn't the most interesting, from a historic perspective, but I had a free morning and the concierge was able to recommend some memorable sites to see. The rooms are top-notch. Extremely well-appointed and comfortable. Just next to Shinagawa Station, you can easily get anywhere in Tokyo (and beyond!) from right outside the hotel. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love love love this place! I'll definitely come back next time I visit Tokyo. The hotel has only six floors, with the front desk on the 26th floor of the building. This small hotel feeling is quite the thing for you if you hate mega-hotels' chaos. The staff were welcoming, and all speak good-enough English, which is hard to find in Japan (considering almost all staff in Disneyland don't speak English at all). We used points to book the classic room, and got upgraded two tiers to the corner room by paying extra 7000 Yen per day and being InterContinental Ambassador. The room is small, and with one checked baggage and two carry-ons, the room is almost full. But the bathroom is quite large, and the bathtub in front of a large window overlooking the Shinagawa area is a killer. The weird thing is that there were only a handful of English channels on TV. I hadn't stayed in any other hotels in Japan, so I couldn't say whether this was normal. But as a international 5-star chain, I think at least ESPN and Fox Channel should be included. Don't forget to press the "billingual" button on CNN and BBC channels, or you will be watching Japanese CNN. Didn't try the hotel restaurants or breakfast, since ramen restaurants around were so tempting. The walk to Shinagawa Station is neither short nor long, but acceptable. Although the hotel is right on the station, you have to walk around to get to the station gate, and the route was always crowded with hasty white-collars. Loved it. 15 November 2012
