A beautiful hotel with true historical significance. Wonderful location and exceptional food service during a catered event. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Business stay From the moment I arrived the staff were exceptional, the experience was pleasurable and I was very comfortable. Positives: Friendly staff, who were helpful and extremely pleasant. The room was very comfortable and presented with the highest standards. The only way to fault my stay was, despite EVERYTHING being fantastic and what I would describe as 5+ star, the toilet tissue in the bathroom was of low or budget quality (comparable to fine sand paper!), it may seem like a minor, but it was more notable because everything else was great. 28 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great welcome for a humble tourist The location and amenities of the Hotel are outstanding of course and as we had expected, and why we made the decision to book here despite being more [$] than we usually outlay for a hotel when travelling. I was particularly impressed by the welcome and respect offered to two humble tourists, which I felt was the same as if we were valued Business or as so often at this Hotel, VIP guests. First impressions through the first contact/welcome greeting [as early as the footpath outside], tone and manner of staff are all important and I have nothing but praise... The overall experience was excellent, despite the Cafe being closed [highly recommended and one of the reasons for selecting the Hotel in the first place] due to maintenance issues for the entire period of our stay; a small issue that unfortunately could not be helped. Will have to return to try it out. I would certainly choose stay here again if able to return to Washington DC at another time. 23 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by worth the splurge My family stayed for two nights while visiting DC. The hotel is close to the Mall, the White House, and most major memorials/museums. The lobby is grand. As IC Ambassador members, we were upgraded to an executive suite, which is huge - it is like two large hotel rooms together, with one as a living room/dining room area. The suite is nicely decorated, and the beds very comfortable. The room (644) also did not have a Pennsylvania Avenue view/Washington Monument view, if that is what you are looking for. 22 January 2014

The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The rooms spacious and well appointed, service fantastic. Don't miss the breakfast/brunch - compliments to the chef. Tasty and beautifully prepared dishes. The location was close to the White House, National Christmas Tree and National Theatre. Great value. Will definitely stay here again if I am in the Washington DC area during the holidays. 22 January 2014

Although the hotel is not the best planned for the disabled, the staff helped in anyway that they could to make my experience very positive. 17 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful room and service I chose to stay here the first weekend in January for an anniversary. The hotel staff was friendly and knowledgeable and acted in a very professional manner. I received an upgrade to a beautiful room overlooking the Washington monument. Upon request I was given a late checkout time of my choosing (2pm), which made the last day of our stay very relaxing. I only had a few minor issues. 1) The toilet would get 'hung up' and continue to run after being flushed. 2# After checkout, the valet brought the wrong car which I was only aware of after waiting for 30 minutes. #Ticket number 898 instead of 889#. After pointing this out, it was quickly remedied. In all, the stay was wonderful and the positives far outweighed any inconveniences we experienced. 10 January 2014

The hotel is very well located for tourist sites on the Mall and the White House, and the Metro Center metro rail is nearby. Staff was very helpful. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dreadful Extremely disappointed with the Willard. We chose the hotel for its history and reputation, confident that the InterContinental name would guarantee top flight service. How wrong we were! We stayed 28 December to 3 Jan. The main issue was housekeeping which was appalling. It took 3 days and several viits to front desk to get a light bullb changed. Glasses were removed from the mini bar and never replaced - phone calls and more visits to reception needed to get clean ones. Hair pin in the middle of the bedroom area the day we arrived and still there the day we left. Bath robe thrown over the bathroom door, used shower gels & shampoo bottles left on the side of the tub. Confetti from New Year celebrations still in corridors and in the elevators on Jan 3. Used glasses and room service trays still lyingin in the corridors the following afternoon. Mens changing room for fitness centre a total mess - used wet towels lying on the floor, towels not removed from steam room, water bottle caps found in the sauna one day and still there the next; Clearly no one monitors these facillities but staff are happy to chat and joke and the reception desk. When leaving, I asked the bellboy who hailed us a cab if there was a specific terminal at Dulles for our flight - his answer "It's big"! The only positive note was the breakfast - good choice of fresh products, professional, friendly service. The concierge was also extremely helpful booking us a table for a New Year's Eve dinner. I will not be staying at the Willard again, will not recommend it to and will seriously reconsider staying in any other InterContinetal hotel. In short, poor value for money, a tired hotel resting on its laurels which needs a thorough shake up. Get to work Intercontinental!! 06 January 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room security I was extremely upset to return to my room and the door was left open by the housekeeper. I complained at that time to the operator and upon checkout. No one made any attempt to do more than apologize. I was horrified, as two rooms (mine and my daughter’s) were adjoining and left ajar with the latch keeping the door open. Anyone could have been in the room and items could have been stolen. A hotel of this quality should not have this occur. The food at the wedding was below the quality of a McDonald’s. I look for customer service, but the Willard exceeded my expectations. They are always thinking ahead of their guests needs. Whatever you are thinking they have already done it. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help. I had a minor issue and they went over and above to resolve it for me. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely building, very poor reception staff A lovely setting, great rooms, both in size and comfort levels, location is perfect for sightseeing in Washington, however the reception staff are snooty and rude, and really don't care. We booked our room some weeks back. I made the reservation as a treat for my wife and young daughter, I'm a Platinium Elite member., we arrived after 6.00PM, and we were told your room is not ready, no apoligise or any sign of regret. After I asked for the Duty Mnager and he took over things improved, we were taken to the bar and they covered the tab for the drinks and food we ordered. No extra bed in the room as we had ordered, had to request this to be sent up. The Breakfast were very nice and the staff excelent, the waiting staff were great and Juan G went the extra mile and was a credit to the Willard. No mention of IHG status, no offer of an upgrade of even a newspaper, the Intercontinental in Doha, Qatar in term of service could teach the reception staff at the Willard a thing or two. Overall a lovely if expensive hotel spoilt by poor reception staff. 03 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice hotel, but front desk service is lacking The hotel was very nice, and so was the staff. The issues started as soon as I checked in though. First, there was no guaranteed upgrade room available (even though royal ambassadors are supposed to be able to check in at 8 AM and it was already 1 PM). I was told that they couldn't give me a time when one would be available, but there was a very nice deluxe corner room that they could give me, with a view of the National Christmas tree. So of course I said yes. Upon getting to the room, the "view" of the tree was laughable (you could see the top part of it in the corner of the window), and we were facing an office building - seriously, the (very friendly) lady working there waved to us, that's how close we were to her office window. I was also told that if I used a weekend night certificate, then the other ambassador amenities (such as the mini bar) would no longer be available. A little disappointing, but no big deal. The most annoying part came last. When I was checking out, the person at the front desk simply printed a copy of my bill, and was getting ready to place it in an envelope and send me on my way, without even asking me to check it first. I asked to look at it, and found that they did not credit my weekend night certificate, even though there apparently was a note in my reservation. The lady at the front desk noted "It was a good thing you checked!" But - first of all, wasn't she supposed to have seen that while checking me out? And second, shouldn't she have asked me to check before finishing up? It wasn't done though. When checking my credit card bill, the full amount (without the weekend certificate) had been charged. Upon calling the hotel, the lady from the billing department (who was polite, but not exactly helpful or even the least bit apologetic) said that the full amount was charged, and then they credited back the free weekend night. This was ridiculous and completely unnecessary - the full amount should never have been charged. It's a very nice hotel, but honestly, I don't think I'll be going back. 03 January 2014

Hotel quality and value excellent. We ate at the Occidental Seafood and Grill and found it excellent as well. 03 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous overnight getaway! We stayed one night at the Willard for a special 40th anniversary celebration...We will treasure our visit forever! We had a lovely package during the Christmas holiday season... the lobby is so beautiful at Christmas... just a magical environment... we loved the history of the hotel, had a drink in the Round Robin bar to enjoy the photos of famous people in history... loved reading the history of the Willard in the gallery hall... it is so close to many sights in DC... we walked to the National Tree... I would recommend this very special hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy a small piece of history in a lovely downtown hotel... 02 January 2014

From the Carol Singers in the evening to the beautiful decorations throughout the hotel to the great service and food in the Parc du Jour The hotel is also in a great location to access the sights of the city. I am not sure when we will be back as we are from Australia but I would definitely like to return. 02 January 2014

The staff is excellent, we arrived at a very busy time and there was no delay in any part of our checkin service. The room was great, clean, no smells.
