Although Hotel renovations had just started during our stay we were kept well informed of changes. I am sure being an IHG club member I will return at some stage. 19 June 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend Escape The Intercontinental, Wellington enjoys an excellent location in the centre of the city's shopping area and is very close to the Cable Car and airport buses. It is an easy walk to points of interest such as Parliament Building and Te Papa. The hotel staff consistently offer warm, friendly service and the menu and cuisine is of superior quality. The rooms are being renovated - for some reason the hotel charges extra for a revamped room. I don't agree with this. This was my second stay there this year and will not be the last. 18 June 2014

The Club staff were friendly, courteous and appropriately attentive. The food, wine and coffee were truly excellent. Concierge staff gave sound advice. Memorable. 17 June 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Coasters We always choose Intercontinental in Wellington when we visit the city, although we have felt for some time, the rooms could do with refurbishing. On our latest visit, we stayed in one of the newly refurbished Club rooms. What a delight. Fresh, much, much brighter and very tasteful. The bed was devine. The Club Lounge is superb and the staff as always, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. 04 June 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive and noisy I am a Platinum Elite with IHG so was disappointed to not get lounge access. My room was on the street and was noisy with people and traffic outside. There are much better value hotels in Wellington for the prices charged by this property, in locations with water views and quiet while still being close to the city (e.g. Oriental Bay). I would not stay here again at their normal price bracket. 02 June 2014

Where else does an older lady get to share a spa with those beautiful rugby boys, who are remarkable for their extraordinary buffness and their polite manners. I don't think it right, though, that they should be made to sit in those ice baths for so long: it couldn't be necessary and must be a part of the false belief that if something hurts it must be good for you. From the gym to the restaurant, from one kind of physical to another, the restaurant was just so nice, with attentive and helpful waiters from France and India, food beautifully presented in a calm and modern setting. Outside was so terribly windy, making it such pleasure to spend a few days in a lovely hotel. We managed the cable car in the rain, but that was enough. There are always things that go wrong in a hotel stay, and the seamless way in which (can I say his name?) K... at front desk fixed them up was very reassuring. Daughters being daughters, we need to go back, and we are looking forward to it. 31 May 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wake Up Call Coffee - Pure Genius Regular visitors to Wellington, however, first stay at Intercontinental WLG. Some surprising slip-ups that we just put down to the hotel being partially closed for two weeks of intense renovations (Club Lounge etc). Overall the stay was good enough to give it a second chance once the refurb is complete. PROS: The new Deluxe Harbour View room was very comfortable and well designed, although not 100% finished. View was beautiful from the 6th floor and would be even more stunning higher up. Particularly quiet at night - probably the quietest hotel room we have ever stayed in - a big plus IMHO. Room servicing done well. Breakfast was excellent quality and dinner utterly superb (Chameleon). Service was warm and mostly efficient. Valet parking worked well and made the most of our short stay (3 nights). Location couldn't be better. Favourite point of difference? The wake up coffee delivered to the room. CONS: Reservation was downgraded after the intense renovations were scheduled. This was handled poorly with unnecessary to-ing and fro-ing/poor communicating, the booking details messed around with and an extra person added. On query told it was fine, but still incorrect on checking out. Promised an extra special welcome platter due to the downgrade. On arrival no one to help with bags or car. Welcome gift contained rotting choc-dipped strawberries - wrapped up with some other things we assumed were just as old. It was mentioned and taken away, but no service recovery happened. Ambassador fruit not given. On the first evening we had to head out due to jackhammer noise after 7pm. None of this added up to a great start or first impression. 31 May 2014

Unfortunately during renovations so a bit of noise from floor above. Iron didn't work and fridge was also not working. I would have liked a bath rather than a shower and wasn't told which I had on booking. 28 May 2014

The refurbished room was excellent as it was not only comfortable but highly functional and welcoming. Additionally the meal I had in the restaurant was simply awesome. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Such decadence! As someone who doesn't get to stay in hotels often, this was a real treat. Gorgeous renovated room. Super comfy bed and all the bells and whistles to make me feel pretty special. Delicious breakfast too. Won't forget it in a hurry! Only thing to improve would be the signposting to the carpark, you could only see the sign if you approached from a certain way (only took 2½ drives around the block). 14 May 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent and professional service I had a great stay at the hotel over Easter. The staff made the experience. They were very friendly and efficient. It is clear that Intercontinental train their staff to the highest standards. It is evident that this is an international hotel. The only area requiring improvement is the local knowledge of concierge staff. They didn't seem to know the names of local cafes which would have been helpful. The room was superb but where is the art work? Also unfortuneately having the television in the middle of the room doesn't work at all. Suggest it be moved to the wall. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the club lounge while small and dated was very well run with excellent food and beverages. Overall it was a great stay and I'll definitely return. 27 April 2014

As usual the staff and service in the club lounge was outstanding however the food with evening drinks could be improved as it has been the same for sometime. Once again we congratulate the hotel for its overall high quality level of comfort and service. 27 April 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding service & luxury rooms. Well where to start given we have been coming here for over 30 years and watched many transformations during that time. The latest rejuvenation is going to bring this fine Hotel right back to its well deserved 5 star rating with the newly renovated deluxe rooms just superb and bristling with innovative electronics whilst also being eco friendlier - a great decision by management. The new Club Lounge is due to open next month and we cant wait to try it out as it looks superb with breathtaking views over the beautiful Wellington harbor. While all guests are warmly welcomed to the Intercontinental regulars are certainly left in no doubt about how much their loyalty is appreciated and we just love the friendships we have made here. The restaurant is just superb and I have never had reason to complain once about the food - wish I could say that for some other restaurants we go to!!!!! If you are planning a stay go the extra for a Club Room especially if you have a car as valet parking is included as are refreshments through out the day along with pre dinner drinks, a tasting plate plus nibbles and a nice lite breakfast all served in the Club Lounge. 23 April 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel policy As a member of IHG (and a supporter of Intercontinental Hotels) I found it incredible that I was allocated a room where if I drew back the curtain all using the pool would be able to see into my room. When I asked to be changed I was pleased with the new room. I asked twice (after an hour of no action and I wanted to go to sleep) for a pillow before it appeared. When checking out I was told I would be charged for two extra nights. One I expected as I checked out a night earlier than I said when I checked in but the other night was unacceptable. I was in a situation where I had to leave in a hurry and the front desk service was not good. 03 April 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service & great rooms As a priority club member we were upgraded to the newly refurbished rooms at the Intercontinental Wellington and the standard & quality of the room, facilities & amenities were excellent. We up-graded ourselves to the Executive floor & although the lounge is small it did offer good views of Wellington harbour, plus we were informed that it will be increased in size later this year. Staff were extremely polite & friendly & offered excellent customer care & service - we were amazed to find our luggage already delivered to our room by the time we had checked in at reception - well done concierge team. Great efficiency! Only negative comment was the gym & health club - when I select a hotel the health club & pool is high on my check list & the gym & pool is certainly looking worn & in need of an up-grade. The location of the hotel is also excellent offering easy access to the city centre, shops, harbour & also in close proximity to the Picton ferry crossing 03 April 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average expereince in the center of Wellington We were expecting more from the Interconti in Wellington when we checked in for a 3 night stay in a junior suite in March. The room was small compared to other hotels we stayed in New Zealand and we never had the impression from most of the staff (the concierge being an exception) that we were welcome and that they were pleased to see us.It was usually efficient but cool especially on check-out (a bit the feeling like "pay and get going there are other guests waiting"). For us, who were on a 3 week trip around the country, Wellington was a disappointment. In my career which includes 30 years of international travel mainly in Asia it was my second stay at an Interconti (the other one years back I cannot even remeber when - where) and being a member of LHW, Hilton Honours, Starwood etc I'm afraid to recommend in future an Interconti to any of my friends/colleagues? Really a pity. If there are specific things about which one can complain we would have done it but as said it was rather the general atmosphere and approach which felt like we were just a number (room 818...). 03 April 2014
