San Ignacio Building – Paraninfo or Grand Hall of the University of Antioquia Vestige of bygone Colonial and Republican eras, the San Ignacio Building is, along with adjacent San Ignacio Cloister, a single architectural monument in the heart of downtown Medellín. Birthpladce of the University of Antioquia, in 1803, the restored San Ignacio Building houses the Paraninfo or Grand Hall of the University, which has witnessed many a noteworthy lecture by world renowned intellectuals. The building, whose interior patios are decorated by gardens and fountains, is also home to the University’s cultural radio station, an inter-university book store, and the History section of the University Museum.
