BIENVENIDO A Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Presidente InterContinental Ixtapa Resort. My concierge team and I are honored to have you with us and are here to ensure that all your needs are met. We hope that you will return to Ixtapa time and time again.

Weclome to the Presidente InterContinental Ixtapa Resort.

CÓMO LLEGAR AL HOTEL

UN DÍA PERFECTO

TARDE

Take a trip to the beach village of Zihuatanejo and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk. If you are lucky you will still find fishermen selling their catch of the day to restaurant buyers. Then have lunch at La Sirena Gorda ('the fat mermaid' in Spanish). This is where the seafood taco originated. Afterwards drop into the Museo de Arqueologia de la Costa Grande to see its collection of ancient pottery and art.

NOCHE

Just before sunset, climb up to the Villa de la Selva restaurant, the former summer home of one of Mexico's presidents. This restaurant has a spectacular cliff-side location and is the best place to watch the sunset while you're enjoying a cocktail (try a margarita or martini, as these are especially well made). The view, the air and the whole atmosphere is one of romance and pleasure. Dine, drink and feast your eyes on a view you will never tire of.

CONSEJOS DE UN EXPERTO

CULTURA LOCAL

Feast Day Of The Patron Saint Of Mexico

If you're here on December 12, on the feast day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, you will see processions down the street with children dressed in traditional clothes and locals holding candles and singing litanies.

Pozole

Traditionally in Guerrero, the local population eats pozole - hominy grits and shredded pork or chicken in a broth accompanied by a side dish of avocado, pork rinds and cheese bits. It is customary to drink a caballito (shot) of mezcal with this meal.

Tequila

Mexicans usually drink tequila with salt and lemon, but you can also try it served with lemon and sangrita. This is known as 'Bandera', which means flag in Spanish, as the colors of the ingredients represent the colors of the Mexican flag.

¿SABÍA QUÉ? ?

Ixtapa / Rocky islands

Ixtapa, a Nahuatl Indian word meaning 'the white place', has a wide bay with small rocky islands solely inhabited by sea birds and is only considered white because of the guano stains on the rocks.

La Soledad de Maciel

This fascinating village, better known as La Chole, is located 20 kilometers south of Ixtapa and has been studied by archaeologists from Mexico's National Institute of Archaeology and History. Here you can see an ancient stone carved with petroglyphs.

Museo Arqueologico de la Costa Grande

This permanent display showcases pre-Hispanic items from 54 archaeological sites discovered in the area surrounding Zihuatanejo.

Surfing

Our area is a fantastic surfing destination. The coastline of Troncones is a world-famous surfer's paradise, and La Saladita, Playa Majahua and Playa Manzanillo are also popular surf spots nearby.

Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo is the principal administrative city for the region and is about 5 km away from the Ixtapa resort. The word 'Zihuatanejo' comes from the Nahuatl language and means 'the place of the dark women', in reference to the fact that the pre-colonial society of the region was matriarchal.

QUÉ METER EN LA MALETA

Clothes

Please bring light clothes, and don not forget your sun cream, bathing suit and sunglasses.

Electrical equipment

The current is 110 volts so make sure any electrical equipment you bring is compatible or has an adaptor.

Money

We recommend that you exchange some money before you leave home to Mexican pesos - just enough to cover airport incidentals and transportation to the hotel - so you can avoid long lines at the airport.

Passport photocopy

Bring a copy of your passport and leave your passport in the hotel for security.

Sun wear

Bring cool linen and cotton clothes, a hat and sunscreen.
