BIENVENIDO A San Juan
A warm welcome to InterContinental San Juan. It is our pleasure to receive you here in sunny and gorgeous Puerto Rico. The Concierge staff are here to ensure you have a wonderful stay, and return many times to stay with us.
The beachfront InterContinental San Juan is located on Isla Verde and is a great setting for both business and pleasure. With two miles of the best sparkling beach of the area, perfect weather, amazing restaurants, natural beauty, fun and adventure, sizzling nightlife and great shopping your stay will sure be a memorable one. San Juan International airport is just three miles away. Old San Juan and the main financial and business districts are just a few minutes away.
Old San Juan is steeped in Spanish colonial history and was built by the Spaniards during the early 1500's after its discovery in 1493. A morning visit to this Fortress City is a wonderful way to start the day, catapulting you back in time. Venerable churches, fortresses, classic colonial buildings and city squares are already being washed with the morning sunlight. Walking Old San Juan is the best option; the narrow streets and original Spanish architecture give you a glimpse of what life was like during the 1500s and 1600s. El Morro Castle sits at the highest point of our city and is a great place to start. Survey the city and then wander down.
Have a Puerto Rican 'fonda' style lunch at Cafe Puerto Rico, and from there take the Ferry Boat at the harborside of Old San Juan and cross the San Juan Harbor. From here take a taxi to the Bacardi City Tour where you will enjoy a complimentary tour of the Bacardi Rum Distillery, with 127 acres of sugar cane plantation, tropical gardens, an open air pavilion and an excellent museum. This is not just to tantalize you: along the way you can also sample Puerto Rico's finest rums.
In the evening when a glorious sunset gives the city an orange glow, Old San Juan acquires a heavily romantic atmosphere, and a feeling of possibility fills the air. A great area to go at this time is the SOFO (South of Fortaleza) District, known for the great variety of restaurants and live entertainment on offer. Sit, eat and see what the night has in store for you, the perfect way to celebrate a perfect day.
Average temperatures around 82-85 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Light clothing and resort wear is recommended.

Casual elegance is the appropriate dress code in evenings. Most places do require long pants and button down, collar shirts for gentlemen, and no beach wear at night time. Same attire for ladies applies: skirts, blouses, dresses, slacks but no shorts. Dress jeans are acceptable.
Puerto Rico's languages are Spanish and English. While Spanish is the island's primary language, English is widely spoken, especially in the tourist areas.
You will find most religious denominations with English services on weekends. Predominantly, Puerto Rico has a large Catholic population, however there are many Protestant churches present as well.
