I checked in and was given a room that had no air was moved that night to another room that had a big Jacuzzi in it with no sitting area that was not what I had booked so was moved again the next day to a room that I had booked but had no hot water in the morning for showers and two days our room was not cleaned. I was there for 5 days this was the worst Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at. The only good thing about this place was the clerk at the front desk was very kind.

We were there 6 nights to arrange my mother's funeral. The first night we got in at 10pm and got into our room and the air conditioner didn't work. The desk clerk moved us to what she called an upgraded room, which had a jacuzzi in the room but no sofa area. Since we were staying 6 days, I wanted a sofa area to relaxing in, not a jacuzzi. She had no other available rooms. The next day, we were moved to a room with a sofa area. Two days out of the five in that room, we came back after a long day to fine our room had not been serviced, the bed wasn't made, trash not dumped and no clean towels. We complained and it still happened again a few days later. We have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inns and this was by far the worse. We come down to the Tidewater area quite a lot because we have family here and we will not be staying in this hotel again. The one on Military Hwy near the airport is the best in the area. The hot water situation was unbelievable. If you take a shower in the evening you should have no problem, but in the morning...you will have lukewarm water.

Thursday morning I could only shower in luke warm water, vs. hot/warm water. This has not been the first time. I don't know if their hot water capacity is undersized, or if it's something else. The first 4 days (Sun-Wed) there were no hot water issues. I've been coming to this hotel on business once or twice a year, for over a decade, and usually there isn't any issues, and sometimes I never get hot water (only luke warm) for consecutive days. Otherwise it's just like every other Holiday Inn Express.

You could be a solid gold with platinum covering member and it doesn't mean a thing. Towels & wash clothes are berber carpet remnants. Milk in fridge is warm. I told the 'attendant' and she just shrugged her shoulders.

I am a frequent customer at this hotel (at least once a month for the past 14months) and usually its a very quiet hotel with nice clean rooms in great shape. The last time i stayed, there were children running rampant in the hallways and our room was not to the standard I was used to having from this hotel. I was disappointed. Overall, the staff is friendly and approachable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone because the price is great (gets a little high for the quality in the summer) and like I said, I've had only had a few less than stellar stays.

This was an OK visit EXCEPT>> Someones tissue left in ice container NOT OURS, .Checking out rooms that have more than 5 kids in them per couple made for an awful time @ the tub/pool area was overpopulated and a birthday party that drew other outside the hotel guest and there children , made it uninviting.Elevators where filthy.

We stayed for two nights in a beautiful non-smoking room on the fourth floor. Everything looked very clean and the room still smelled like Clorox from its cleaning. The staff were some of the nicest people I have ever seen in a Hotel. They were friendly every time I walked past the front desk or had a question, even the maids and breakfast cooks were extremely friendly! My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay, and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The location of the Hotel was a huge plus. It sits on a road with only one other Hotel and a condo complex nearby, but is not far off the interstate or far from the shopping mall. It was the perfect location!

Myself,along with 4 of my AKA Sorority sisters came into town
For an Ivy Beyond The Wall Ceremony. Monica, Dru, and the rest of the staff provided excellent service. The hotel was nice and clean and the rooms are spacious. My roommate left her medicine, and when we got home, from a four hour drive, the hotel had call and left a message that the medication had been left, and it would be mail to us.
We would like to say thanks for a great stay and would recommend this hotel.

To whom it may concern this was quite possible the worst Holiday Inn Express experience ever. I am a Platinum Member and will not recommend this hotel to anyone. When my wife and I checked in the staff was super polite. We were placed in a regular room. Every other hotel we have stayed in we were upgraded to a suite due to platinum status but not here. We get to our room and one of the lights above the sink was out and the the light in the shower would just flicker like it was going out. We informed the staff and were told it would get fixed and it was then that they upgraded our room. We got to our new room, a suite, and the shower was not working properly and we have to inform the staff about that. They fixed it. The icing on the cake of a bad experience was the lack of hot water. The water in the room would only get warm and soon after turning it on we were in the cold. This should not happen at a hotel. Hotels don't run out of hot water. All this caused my wife and I to check out early and find a better hotel. We went to Staybridge Suites and the experience was awesome. There is a reason why this Holiday Inn Express only has a 3.6 rating. I will never suggest this hotel to anyone even though the staff was friendly.

A superb stay facilitated by an impressive desk staff that were more than eager to assist us through our holiday stay there. Dru and Nikee went above and beyond their responsibilities and insured that we had a very comfortable stay as we traveled with our new born.

my stay there was very good, shopping very near and close as well as the mall; facility was very clean and breakfast was awesome; although i was never terribly pleased with the pancakes; not bad once you got them but very small and thin and you must wait with patience; think they should invest in the waffler : ) the front desk staff were awesome and the rest of the staff, the house technicians and breakfast room staff.

I've stayed here multiple times. Although the furniture was a bit shopworn, the room was very clean and tidy. Breakfast was quite standard fare. The desk (and food) staff were very pleasant and welcoming. It was also nice that smoking rooms were available to avoid an elevator ride and standing outside which seems to be the norm nowadays. Overall, it's my choice of hotel when visiting the Norfolk area.

I enjoyed the hotel and my room. The only thing that stood out and this isn't even a big deal. The lady that checked me in didn't give me a gift bag for being a platinum member. Not all hotels give the gift bags out so I didn't think anything of it. I went back down to the front desk 10 mins after I checked in and I seen her giving another platinum member a gift bag so I found it odd that I didn't get one but I didn't really care. The lady was very nice and helpful so I didn't even mention it, to her. My over all experience was great. I will stay, again.

The staff and service at this hotel was excellent! The staff were very accommodating and very friendly! The rooms are a bit outdated. The bed was not comfortable and the sheets were scratchy. While taking a shower at night there was no hot water.

Bed was so comfortable, felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. Breakfast was great. Room was very clean and presentable! Will definitely stay here in the future!

Have stayed at this location 2 times now and both times the staff has been wonderful and friendly. I really enjoyed being there close to everything but not in the midst of it. Love the location. Rooms are big and cozy. Will definitely stay at this location again.

I am a frequent visitor of the Chesapeake area and usually stay with friends. Instead, for this trip, we decided to stay in a hotel. Lately, I've been staying at many Holiday Inn's because I've been travelling a lot and I get a great rate. However, this property was the best I've stayed in. The room was beautiful and so very spacious. The only downside in the room is that the sofa bed is uncomfortable because the mattress is very thin and you can feel the bar/springs right through it. The floor was quiet. Housekeeping (Martha) was excellent. She checked on us, after she had cleaned the room, to make sure that everything was good. Thanks for a great stay. We will recommend this property to others and we will be here again!

My sister and I stayed at the hotel while attending the funeral of a family member. It was a long drive and emotional occasion but the accomodations met our needs and the staff was great. it helped to have breakfast served right there and not have to go out and find a restaurant. The woman at the front desk (sorry, can't remember her name) working the evening shift checked us in, was helpful with directions and had a wonderful sense of humor which also helped us get through a tough occasion. She found us a vase so we could keep the roses fresh we were given from a memorial bouquet, and immediately supplied us with extra towels and coffee when requested. Overall a very positive experience.

I love this place. I will stay here anytime I'm in the area. Friendly and helpful staff and clean rooms. I never have to worry if the room will be nice or if the staff will be helpful. They always are.
Also, right around the corner from the Hotel is a place called AJ Gators restaurant and bar. Really cool place to hang out. :)

My family and I recently stayed, over Labor Day weekend. Room was great, location was great and easy to find. Our first night should have been great except for our disruptive neighbors at 3:00 a.m. Once we addressed the issue with hotel staff, it was resolved quickly and we were able to get back to sleep. We were concerned that our second night would be a repeat performance, but after expressing our concerns with staff, all was taken care of. Our second night was much quieter. Thank you to all the staff at the Holiday Inn Express Chesapeake for your kindness, consideration and prompt attention to make sure the rest of our stay was great and that we had everything that we needed! I would definitely stay here again.

I have always been an Holiday inn customer always being sure to stay at the brands when staying away from home. But the issues I had at this one where a little unsettling. Our orginal room was ready when arrived but we expected to shower and take the kids to see a movie we had no hot water... things happen no big deal. We called the front desk Ms. Monica was great and told me she world try to find maintance ;( We decided to go on with our plans with hopes that we woud have hot water when we returned. When we came back in she was unsure if the problem was fixed on not so I went to the room to check it was not. I told her it was not she moved us about 11:00pm we where awaken by people trying to check in to out room as well... That made me a little uneasy and worried about the safety of my belongings. The next day we received a phone call inquirying rather we ready to check out. I paid for two days. The phone call awoke us from our sleep. We planned to take the kids to the beach that day I worried rather or not our stuff would be ok. This stay was by far the worst I have had at an Holiday Inn brand I will not say that this hotel will make me stay away from the brand just this particular one. I only stay at Holiday inn and will continue to just not this one. I was very disappointed. The bathroom was also not very clean looking.

Hard to find, kind of tucked out of the way. Check-in went OK, but cleanliness of the room was poor. While this is a newer property, don't be fooled. The floors creaked, the sink wouldn't hold water, and doors didn't fit well. Grout in the shower was mildew stained, and had a build up of soap scum. Commode was not well seated and bolted to the floor, but at least it did not leak. I wouldn't recommend this location under any circumstance.

I continuously stay at the Holiday Inn Express based on a price, level of service and cleanliness. This was my second stay at the Holiday Inn Chesapeake Va. My first stay was not too bad, however this past stay from 14 - 20 Aug 2013 will be my last stay in this hotel. The young man at the front desk was far too distracted with his girlfriend rather than checking in guests. While walking to the room, the filth on the floor in the hallways was very apparent to all of us, but seemed to be transparent to the staff as it remained for the duration of our stay. The rooms were filthy, urine on the seat of the toilet and around the base, dirty bath tub and filthy floor which I was not comfortable having my son walking on in bare feet. After explaining the situation, the maid did clean the bathroom, however did a very poor job in cleaning the rest of the room. During our time there, the linens were changed only once. We asked the lady at the front desk why the place was so dirty and she stated they were having trouble with their cleaning staff. We watched several times as a maid would walk past trash on the floor and not pick it up. The trash can at the front door was continuously overflowing onto the ground and blowing around the front entrance every day. We took our son to the pool, only to find clumps of hair floating in the pool. The food was no consolation prize either unless you like your eggs served with clumps of ice in them. As of the writing of this - 26 August, I still have not received a corrected copy of our receipt for this trip, even after several calls and emails to Christy Morgan. Since this trip I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Stephens City VA which was outstanding due to the manager taking pride in his hotel. Highly recommend staying there and avoid at all costs the HIE in Chesapeake Va. This will be copied and posted on Trip Adviser.
