Close to Universal, Very clean hotel, Good Breakfast. No benefit for Plat
Stayed 3 nights total. Hotel is about 5 minutes from Universal (free shuttle available, or Uber for $7). Drive to Disney is about 15-25 minutes, depending on traffic. Breakfast was great
(standard Holiday Inn Express hot breakfast), and room was clean and updated.
I am an IHG Platinum member, and have stayed in many IHG properties over the past several years. I arrived to the hotel from out of town to a mostly-empty hotel at 10am.
Front desk member "Catalina" did not smile and was not very friendly, although the rest of the hotel staff was extremely attentive and pleasant throughout my stay.
I requested early check-in (not right at 10am, but perhaps at 1pm). Even though hotel was mostly empty (only 7-8 cars in the parking lot) and IHG website showed many open rooms, Catalina would not arrange for anything sooner than the standard 3pm check in.
She also said "no upgrades" are available, even though I later found out from IHG's website that several open rooms were available, and IHG's central reservations representative said "at least 1 suite was available, and several other open rooms." They said that the hotel may be saving the upgraded rooms for Spire members, and not Platinum.
I was there for my anniversary, and my girlfriend had injured her foot. Although I did not expect a "free" upgrade, I would have paid for it had I know earlier that a room was available. Catalina was not forthcoming about this. Moreover, I would have hoped she could arrange a slightly earlier check in, especially as the hotel seemed very empty. Otherwise, what is the benefit of being a Platinum member? I have encountered more reasonable IHG staff at other hotels, including at 2 other IHG hotels within Orlando. Once again, all the other staff at this hotel was fantastic. [Less]
