Use to be very nice. Not any longer

After staying at this hotel a few times over the past several years, I won't be going back. It use to be a nice, clean, comfortable safe hotel but sadly it has become very run down. Hallway carpets and walls are shabby. They are visibly dirty and in poor repair. Our room door scrapped badly when opened and closed. The soap / shampoo holder was half way ripped off the tub wall and the shampoo was missing. Tile grout was stained and looked moldy and the floor was sticky. Kitchenette was very dirty. Refrigerator handle was dark from accumulated dirt. Heater was full of dust and dirt. Only part that looked reasonably clean was the bedding. It also appears like this hotel has many long term residents. We saw school busses transporting groups of people. IHG management should make an unannounced visit and see ti first hand. The exterior of the building is in disrepair including a broken door to the parking lot that wouldn't stay closed allowing snow inside and cigarette butts all around it.

Close to the airport and quiet. The staff and shuttle are friendly. The rooms are old but serviceable.

I was told, upon my arrival, that there were no rooms available even though I had made my reservation in advance, paid for it, and received a confirmation number. When I pointed this out to the totally disinterested and disaffected desk clerk she found a room for me - no apology of any kind. The room I received had not been cleaned nor the beds changed since the last guest. A thick, unpleasant, rather oily smell (cooking oil or something) permeated the room; the microwave was filthy, the dishwasher filled with dirty dishes, the room phone was disconnected and did not work, the hallway floors and the floor in the room had not been vacuumed in some time and were covered with dirt, lint, and other debris. I was concerned about bedbugs, although in fairness this wasn’t a problem. When I asked the desk clerk about getting certain toiletries I had forgotten to pack, she suggested I walk up the highway to the nearest gas station and get them there. She called me “Mr. James” rather than “Mr. White” and did so in a smirking manner, smiling like it was some kind of personal joke. I never write reviews for the hotels at which I stay, but this experience was so exceptionally BAD from start to finish that I felt justified in doing so this time. My advice? Pitch a tent by the roadside- you’ll have a much nicer experience. But whatever you choose to do, I would NOT stay at this hotel. And BTW, I paid full price for this disgusting room. Why did I stay there if it was so bad you may well ask. I had to stay because it was late in the evening and I had a very early flight the next morning. So lesson learned. Next time I have to stay over in Syracuse, NY l’ll bring a tent and a sleeping bag with me.

This hotel is a dump. It desperately needs to be renovated. The room was technically clean but just falling apart. I would not recommend spending 5 minutes here, let alone a night or more.

Website info on shuttle service is wrong. Only have a shuttle in the morning. Had to Uber to hotel. No service to area businesses.
"Guests of the Candlewood Suites® Syracuse - Airport hotel can use the complimentary shuttle service to get to nearby businesses or the airport."
Room looked like towels and sheets hadn't been changed. Slept on the bedspread.
Place needs a major freshening up. Walls and door-frames, doors all banged up.
On arrival (1:15am due to delayed flight) was told my reservation had been cancelled because I was supposed to be there "yesterday". She reinstated the reservation but no acknowledgement of IHG status.
Had a no-smoking room but the hallway smelled like an ashtray getting to my room.

I sometimes use this hotel when visiting Syracuse.
PROS:
- It's just a stone's throw from the university and close to the mall, food, etc.
- Cheap gas and breakfast is across the street.
- The staff is always friendly.
CONS:
- It is in SERIOUS need of a refresh!!
- The hallway carpet is just beat up.
- The bathtub faucet dripped.
- The shower curtain was mouldy on the bottom.
- The room carpet needed a good vacuuming.
- There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
And the bedspread was not the cleanest!
But as the title suggests, you get what you pay for. You can probably do better than this, I know I can.

While the staff was pleasant at check in, that was the end of any good experience. I should have turned around then the front entrance tilework looked like a sledgehammer had been assaulting it. The suite I booked had only a double bed, no desk or table and only one set of dishes/glass. It was dirty overall. The entire hotel was adrift in the sent of cigarettes wherever we walked and the surrounding outdoor area was destroyed by less than thoughtful guests and their dogs. I had a dog with and have stayed elsewhere with little concern for where I step.
My biggest concern were the signs everywhere stating that guests were responsible for removing their own trash or face a $50 fine.
WORST stay I have ever had !!!

It took me a while to write this review . Not because I forgot by any means , however , the stay I am reviewing was from back in June/July of 2022 . I have been overwhelmed with one thing after another since my visit to NY , so again , a delayed review . I don't even know where to start actually because there was SOOOO much wrong with the room from the moment of check in . The desk clerk that day was decent and she did her best to accommodate me for an early check in . I had to wait until 2:30pm anyway , but it wasn't her fault . Short handed with housekeeping staff . THIS , could possibly be the reason for the condition of my room upon check in . IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING !!!!! Thank the Lord , I travel with disinfectant and wipes . Cleaning it myself was my only option considering they had no other rooms available and I had to wait so long for the one I had . I truly believe all they did was come in and change the bedding !! The stench of MILDEW in the room , I tried spraying the Lysol , but to no avail , it was PUNGENT !!! I had to keep the A.C. cranked so high , I was literally freezing , wearing ( Thank God I brought long pants and a hoodie ) it was summer in NY and I know all too well how cold the nights can get even in the summer . ANYHOW , again , just a few of the issues . The one that threw me OVER THE EDGE was when I returned to the room late that first night , got ready for bed which I didn't even want to get in it as the room smelled so bad the bedding I knew would SMELL as well , so I pull back the covers and THANK GOD I still had the light on , and there it was A HUGE SPIDER !!!!!! WELLLLL let me tell you ! Needless to say , I was beyond panicked !! I knew if I left sight of it for a second , it would be gone and buried in my bed somewhere and I would be getting NO SLEEP that night , so I quickly grabbed my slipper next to the bed and SLAMMED that thing right there on the sheets ! SOOOO needless to say , I spent the next hour washing the sheet off and drying it with the hair dryer !! I tried to call the desk for clean sheets , and planned on changing the bed myself of course , however , no one answered the phone . I felt so creeped out at that point , I just gave up , I was exhausted . The following days , I managed to kill 6 spiders in my room after buying bug spray and spraying it every day when I was getting ready to leave for the day . The darn things STILL LIVED !! NEVER EVER AGAIN will I stay at a CANDLEWOOD SUITES ANYWHERE !!!!!

I’ve now stayed at this hotel atleast five times.
This past time was a really rough experience. The room wasn’t clean when I got there. The heating element was broken so I was freezing all night long and the noise was really bad.
All in all it was a hugely unpleasant visit and I will have to look into another hotel for future visits to that area.
Don’t stay here if you have a family

Shuttle wasn’t available both days we needed it. Had to pay $50 for an Uber from the airport. Outdated property.
Park and fly, not really

We did the park and fly and for our departure, service was fine. However, on return, candle wood set someone else (Holiday Inn) to pick us up and they don’t have an arrangement to do so. Holiday Inn took us back. Go with Holiday Inn/Express.
