    Small rooms for suite hotel and uncomfortable bed

    We were greeted at the front desk, not with a hello or welcome, biput rather "you are early" - (even though on the pre-check in form we said we'd be early) however they did give us room, but not on a low floor as we requested.

    Dirty/stinky room, locked out of my own room.

    Room was stinky upon arrival. Something from the kitchen. Upon closer inspection, found some sticky stuff all over the countertop. At the end of my stay, I was told to call them when this happens. WHY should I call when it is expected that when you check into a hotel, it should be clean? If you tell a guest to call when the hotel is not clean, then someone on the staff clearly isn't doing their job. This was an inconvenience and annoying because I was planning to cook all my meals since it was a suite and needed the countertop for food prep. Then I wanted to watch TV. There was some sticky brown crust in between the buttons and it was THICK. It could've been food, it could've been FECAL matter, who knows? All it tells me is the hotel staff failed to clean the room THOROUGHLY. Then there was the issue of the hotel keycard lock. Less than 24 hours of checking into the hotel, the lock no longer worked. I went back and forth from the third floor to the front desk 3 times in regards to the card. It was not the card, but something with the hotel keycard lock battery. You'd think the staff would do maintenance checks on these locks between guest stays but I guess not. Another huge inconvenience as I wanted to go somewhere but I had to wait 10 hours for someone. Never received an apology for this INCONVENIENCE or even any IHG reward point reimbursement. Something like this was the fault of the hotel, not mines. Speaking of IHG reward points, I am a member and this is how I booked my hotel. I was not welcomed or recognized as an IHG reward member. Other Candlewood Suites hotels have welcomed me and given me a small IHG reward gift (they were also clean). This didn't. When I checked in at 11AM-ish, they also most likely did not do this process properly because at MIDNIGHT (who calls you on your phone at midnight???!), I was informed I did not check into the hotel. Funny because I was in the room when I got the call. So yet another inconvenience I was not given an apology for. I am truly disappointed. The hotel was so GREAT a few years ago, now the quality feels so poor. I don't know if it's change of management or lazy employees, but the fact that my issues stemmed from poor cleanliness of the hotel room, poor courtesy of the staff, and issues that the staff should have prevented tells me they just don't care about their guests anymore.

    No complaints other than fan on ac/heat unit did not have "off" option, could not access internet as apparently "full", and could have used another surface to place second suitcase. Otherwise, everything was very clean and comfortable and we were pleased.
