The visit to Intercontinental Sanya Resort is part of a 2-week vacation with my girlfriend to China. The hotel met with most of our expectations, and the room upgrade received as a platinum
ambassador is well beyond the value we paid. The service for the room (cleaning, turndown and in-room dining) is always great. The club lounge, the bar and the resort beaches gave an enjoyable experience. The best part we enjoyed in the 3-day stay there is probably the SPA, which is definitely one of the best among intercontinental resorts.
That said, we did encounter a few problems as well. The first is that when we arrived, there was a long line of check-in and nobody is in the IHG Rewards Member desk. The front desk staff put me standing around a position where there is no seat available. I was able to get a quick check-in after showing my ambassador membership card, but there were still some other unhappy customers standing around. The front desk staff could have guided some customers to the nearby sofa to rest, and provide some water while waiting for checking in.
The worst experience for the stay, however, was lunch and dinner at the Southeastern Asian restaurant. We went there 3 times and every time there was something not meeting intercontinental standard. The first time was a dinner buffet, where a waitress told us we could get food, sit down and then get the bill. 2 minutes later, another waitress told us to sign the bill immediately, with me holding a plate half full of food. This is just a minor confusion, but could have been avoided.
The second time was a normal dinner by ordering food. The food was great of high quality. But our waitress seems not paying attention because she was focusing on her cellphone. It took a while for us to get her attention for a glass of water.
The third time, which is the worst experience of all, is a lunch at the restaurant. We were expecting a cool place to sit down during the hot summer weather, since the restaurant had its doors closed from all sides. But when we get in, the place is intolerably hot and humid, and the waitresses did nothing while looking at us sweating all the time. It's so bad that after the food arrived, my girlfriend suffered a heatstroke and had to went out to vomit without eating the food. After this, we decided to call in-room dining for all our lunches and dinners, and never bother with the poor service quality on that restaurant. [Less]
