Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location The location of the hotel was very central and near some good restaurants, and made it a good base for moving around the city. The hotel as a whole was quite comfortable, with our room comfortable also. The only detraction was a tight squeeze between the desk and the foot of the bed. Breakfast was very nice and the staff at that time were extremely friendly and helpful. 18 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christmas in Roxburgh Edinburgh Had a great stay along with my wife and three grown up sons. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant even though they worked over the festive period. Great location and would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it for a weekend break or for a longer stay as a tourist. 08 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Hogmanay to remember! I stayed for three nights with a friend & it was well worth it! The staff were great, knowledgeable, friendly (genuinely not false) & accommodating. Loved the extra touches of water in rooms, choc on pillow, aromatherapy oil cloth/ tissue to put on your pillow each night & Buck's Fizz on New Year's Day! Breakfast was fab & in a lovely relaxed environment. Great lounge & foyer too. 05 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect place to stay Location was perfect as was everything else about our stay, clean, warm, comfortable rooms, great bar with a cozy atmosphere. Will be staying again 05 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellence!!!!!!!! We were touring Europe for two months and this was the best hotel of our stay. The location is perfect for airlink bus, shopping and touring new town, old town or the national gallery and SO close to excellent pubs & shops on Rose street. Don't miss the Black Cat... Staff incredibly knowledgeable and helpful at every turn. 04 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Everything I expected and more The Roxburghe is a superb hotel. It's in a good location, handy for shopping, pubs, restaurants and sight seeing. The staff are excellent and care about the service they deliver. Breakfast is wonderful and sets you up for the day, especially in winter! Book this hotel you won't be disappointed. 04 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Warm and welcoming We had a lovely stay during Christmas and new year. The hotel was busy but staff were nothing but friendly and efficient, they were especially kind to my son, who said he would like to work there when he grows up! We will definitely be back soon. 03 January 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely helpful staff. Excellent stay for the price paid. Early check in was no problem and the Front Desk Team were friendly and eager to help. One of the team Jaimie was a star and his help and advice was much appreciated. Our room was in the new part of the hotel beyond the glass atrium. It was clean, functional and well appointed. Our next stay here is in a few days and we shall try out the original part of the hotel on this visit. The leisure club was good but maybe in need or a refurb at some point. The restaurant was fully booked that night but the staff recommended several nearby eateries. Looking forward to our next stay. 31 December 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by beware of Christmas parties! I have stayed at the Roxburge on numerous occasions and always had better than standard service however last weekend proved to be different. I appreciate Christmas party season is in full swing but it should not be at the expense of paying guests. I could not get a table for a meal or even a seat to have a drink. Room service was at least 1 hour. the weather outside was atrocious but had no other option to venture out. Not sure if I will visit again! 18 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing room and lovely hotel We had an amazing stay at The Roxburgh, the club room was huge with high ceiling - loved it ! Breakfast the only let down, slow service, we didnt get what we ordered and tables round us didnt get their order at all. 12 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice but noisy! Lovey hotel excellent staff and lovely room but if I returned i would definitely ask for a room at the back, our room looked out on to George Street and was very noisy at night, but I guess that's what you pay for having a great central location! 12 December 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Avoid at all costs What a pity .... We organised an event and there were Number of issues with the hotel, although I raised these on many occasions and was told that the General Manager was aware, no one has ever had the decency to talk to me and it and it ruined what was supposed to be a memorable evening. I have now decided that they were so bad I can't be bothered to tell them what they are so they don't have a chance to fix them, hopefully other customers will vote with your feet. 11 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by excellent hotel The hotel was fabulous and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our only problems were the room was noisy in the evening with late night drinkers outside and the patio door wasn't sealed properly so made a draught in the room. The breakfast was superb and the position of the hotel is ideal for sightseeing or shopping in Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend. 09 December 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Missed chance for a memorable stay. Should not, have happened. It's never nice to enter a hotel where there is a big party going on. Therefore reception was not very interested. We had exchanged mails about our different reservations so,that we could stay in the same room for the 3 night stay but they didn't know. Being "platinum members" we were not recognised and no upgrade, no newspaper and had to ask for the extra voucher. For the 3 night stay we were given a basic room and a bathroom with a washbassin for children. Small and low! The elevator didn't work for 2 days and being seniors they could have given us a room on a lower floor, or at least ask if we didn't mind. Climbing 2 big stairs was not easy! Breakfast was good but took so long that we didn't return. When the next morning I told the reception that we where somewhat disappointed nothing was done to make our stay a success! 06 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Vist I have just enjoyed a 3 night Winter Spa Package. I have been coming to The Roxburghe in November for the past 5 years and I have found the standard excellent. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful which makes you feel relaxed which leads to a very enjoyable stay.. Well done to all and see you soon. 04 December 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room very, very noisy The hotel as a whole is clean, the staff friendly and check in and check out was reasonably quick. The room was a good size and well equipped. Where this hotel let me down is the amount of street noise. I understand it is a city-center hotel, but my room was practically above the Wetherspoons pub next door and the seal around the double-glazed window was non-existent, so I was kept awake for most of the night by revellers in the street shouting and screaming until gone 3am. Not good when travelling for business the next day. And then the fire alarm went off at 7am so we had to evacuate the building (a regular occurrence, apparently). Would only recommend if you take earplugs. 02 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by For a fantastic time in Edinburgh It is a beautiful hotel close to the city centre. All the tourist sights are just a walk away. It is a high quality hotel where you can rest after a long day off walking trough the city. The food is excellent and the service makes you want to come back. All the staff is nice and interested in their guests. This makes you feel very welcome. 01 December 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A hotel of two halves We stayed in the 'new' part of the hotel. The room was pleasant and had been recently decorated. However, the mattress had not been replaced and was very uncomfortable, with a huge dip in it. I had a really poor sleep. The service in the bar and restaurant was good and the food we had was nice. It would be better if the cooked breakfast was buffet style. However there was an excellent selection in the continental buffet. We've stayed in the hotel twice before in the old part of the hotel and those rooms have much more character. If this was our first stay, I probably wouldn't return. However its location is good and car park is handy. 27 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What a 'breakfast box' let down! A very pleasant room, with good facilities and a comfortable bed. Reasonably efficient and helpful staff. Had a very early flight next morning so no chance of sampling the cooked breakfast. Given a dismal 'breakfast box instead. A couple of pieces of fruit, croissant and a pastry. No bottle of water. No nice touches like fruit juice, yoghurt - just two plastic SPOONS to spread my butter and jam on the croissant! Disappointing - why not try a bit harder to impress a departing traveller rather than leaving them feel short changed? 26 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hmmmm We were in Edinburgh for an overnight stay and were a little disappointed in the room.Obviously a lot of money has been spent on the main lobby, restaurant, bar, etc, but the guest rooms are a little dated. The room we had was relatively small, the tv had no channels and the water flow from the shower was pretty poor. The room was clean as you would expect and the bed was comfortable enough. The breakfast was fine, although nothing brilliant. The bar was clean and bright, although the service was not too great,a bit on the slow side considering the hotel was as quiet. The location is excellent, but I would have to think seriously before returning, considering the price and the overall experience. 26 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service, nice rooms, great location. My stay at the Roxbourge was excellent. The consierge staff was exceptional long before my arrival. It got even better after I arrived. They helped me arrange golf outings, get car rentals, and recommended additional restaurants in the area. They were the best!!! The hotel is centrally located in Edinburgh and a beautiful area to walk around and explore. The room accommodations were great and the hotel staff exceptional. 25 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel ,disappointing breakfast We had a great time in the hotel which ticked all th e right boxes untilbreakfast. although the service and food were good ,a full breakfast without blackpudding ,square slicedausage, potatoe scone orbeans dosent fit the description . 19 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location. First time in Edinburgh. Hotel location was excellent. Check in and out very efficient. Friendly staff and concierge. Very good breakfasts. Would happily return and recommend to friends. 17 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good stay overall just lacking in places Stayed for 2 nights in a Club Room which allowed access to the (somewhat soulless) Club Lounge. Room was a good size and spotless - had everything you needed the odd extra touch (e.g. bathrobe and water). Unusually, only Freeview TV though. Staff working during the day were excellent. For me, just the right balance between chatty and professional and took time to enquire on our day. The nightshift staff were a complete contrast and treated as an inconvenience when requesting drinks in the Residents Lounge. Many drinks were not available and those that came took more than 20 mins to be delivered with no apology. I recognise nightshift staff have a number of duties but shouldn't guest service be number one? The Leisure Club was busy when I visited but had a good range of facilities (gym, steam room, pool) - something to suit everyone. A good stay overall - and would stay again - but so easily could have been much better. 14 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great spot! Have visited Edinburgh several times before and this was our first stay in The Roxburghe. Really pleased with it. It has a comfortable, friendly feel and the staff were lovely. The concierge was very helpful and friendly, the desk staff attended to us promptly and courteously and welcomed us like old friends. The room was bright and spacious and the bed very comfortable. Maybe more choice of pillows - I found them rather stiff though my partner liked them. Spa and pool facilities were a great bonus. The hotel's location is superb. Plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. All the sights are handy - the Meadows and Scottish parliament are only about 10 minutes walk, the castle maybe 12-14 minutes as you are walking uphill for the approach. All in all a lovely hotel, good value and great staff. 07 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful We have stayed in many hotels in Edinburgh but this was our first visit to Th Roxburgh, in future will be the first hotel we would contact to make a reservation. Great location, wonderful decor, excellent food, nice room, good leisure facilities and very helpful ad friendly staff. The late weekend breakfast and late checkout helped make this a very relaxing weekend. Looking forward to staying there again soon 06 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Affordable luxury! We had a wonderful stay at the Crowne Plaza, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, great service and very welcoming. The bed and room were super comfortable, the shower brilliant and lovely big soft fluffy towels and bathrobes. The breakfast was superb, everything you could imagine on the menu. Perfect position between George and Princes Street, lovely spa treatments, a real treat and would love to stay again. 06 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best I have never had such a nice stay at at hotel! Best experience! Big, clean room. Nice bathroom. The wi-fi was perfect! The breakfast was super! Every day. Staff was friendly and helped me when I needed help. I will recomend this hotel to everybody! 04 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel Reasonably Priced This is a really well located hotel. The rooms are very spacious which is unusual for a city where space is at a premium. They are also well appointed. Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. There is a pleasant club lounge and an open courtyard area which will be very nice in the summer months 04 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Douglas Enjoyed my stay very much. Excellent central location. My only complaint is that the showers which are set in the baths are uncomfortable. The arm coming out to the shower-head is short which means that to get under the water you have to stand very near the bathtaps. The water from the shower-head comes straight down. A different type of shower-head which threw the water outwards would enable one to stand nearer the centre of the bath which would be far more comfortable. 03 November 2013
