A very good break, but....
First the good points: We very much enjoyed this hotel, and like a previous review noted it does have the feel of a boutique hotel. Unlike a previous review, however, I disagree about the garden view
rooms. We had one of the smallest rooms, #112, (so much for my husband's Diamond Elite status and booking with the hotel direct!), but the view was very pleasant, the room was comfortable and quiet and the patio was spacious. Top level rooms have the best view, but from the second level you do have a sea view, but also look down on the train tracks.
Ah, the trains from Lisbon.....the elephant in the room. The hotel website doesn't make any attempt to hide them and they didn't bother us in the least, but be aware there are six trains an hour coming and going from Lisbon.
The pool is not large, but set in beautifully landscaped gardens, and rarely do you have so much space between you and your neighbours' sun loungers.
Staff are friendly, and we were especially well looked after at breakfasts. They also booked restaurants for us.
So why not all 5*? Beware of the pool menu. When we ordered the 35 Euro bottle of rose wine by the pool, we were told that wine was only used for pouring by the glass, even through it was listed as a bottle. We were told if we wanted a bottle we had to order the 60 Euro bottle. Outrageous! When we said to cancel the order, the original bottle suddenly appeared at the advertised price.
The purpose of this trip was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. When we tried to book the terrace restaurant two days in advance for the night we were told it was fully booked. As we left the hotel about 8pm that night is was more than half empty, with even fewer tables occupied when we returned two hours later. Very disappointing. [Moins]
