Good experience at IHG in Down Under
By Calvin79
Overall, we have good experience with IHG Melbourne on Collins. We first stayed for the first 3 nights and then heading to Sydney. In Sydney, we were staying with my partner Loyalty scheme - GHA [More] chain but we don't enjoyed it at all and decided to cancel the Melbourne booking. Since we had good experience with IHG in Melbourne, we decided to stay for further 5 nights after the Sydney trip before heading back to UK. We had encounter some issues with the room allocation when we first arrived as I requested the room closer to lift since my partner having a bit difficulties walking long distance after the hip operation but was given the room at the furthest end and the wardrobe in the room was broken. I called to the reception and complaint and since received a quick response from the duty manager. We have then moved to the opposite Rialto side. I do however have some minor criticisms; the breakfast at IHG don't have the self make coffee machine, every cup of coffees needed to be ordered and take long time and by the time the coffees arrived, it was cold. I think the hotel should consider having the coffee machine and let the people's decide whether they wanted to order though waiter or make it themselves. [Less]
Pleasant stay
By glee
Overall it was a pleasant stay . However not really up to expectations for a 5 Star hotel. Pool and spa facilities are quite dated. Shower could be larger and water pressure was not sufficient. [More] Bathroom basin area was really nice modern and spacious. Early check in was highly appreciated but our note on it being our anniversary was ignored. Some splotchy stains on the bathroom towel. The bed was very comfortable and the pillow menu was super. [Less]

Melbourne Surprise
By Rosie
Having recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Flinders Lane we were pleasantly surprised to find that the outside of the hotel did not reflect the fantastic inside of the hotel. The room was a good [More] size, quiet, very comfortable bed, amazing pillows, floor to ceiling window with electric blinds and even though the bathroom is a little on the small size, it worked well and was restocked and cleaned beautifully. The staff at this hotel really know their stuff!! They are happy, helpful, genuine people who only want the guests to thoroughly enjoy their stay. From reception, to housekeeping, to bar / breakfast staff - all were exceptional. The only downside to our stay was the smoking which is allowed on the footpath outside the hotel entrance. Think this needs to be rectified. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be in the centre of Melbourne. [Less]
