This is a great historic hotel and the room was fine and the staff were as expected great.
When I showed up in Phnom Penh on Christmas Eve I asked my wife to talk to the kitchen staff late at
night for some plain toast, bread and water as I got pretty sick from something I ate before arriving here and they took care of me/her immediately and gratis ... thank you for the kind gesture.
MM the chief concierge is exceptional and textbook of what I love to see in a hi end hotel from the concierge. He knows Phnom Penh to the day whats going on. As noted above, I was pretty sick but recovering and turned over myself to his plan as I had not planned this leg of my travel at all. He devised a great plan for not only the same day but 15 minutes later we were in a great car with a kind gentlemen showcasing the cities history and sites. MM also functioned as a translator for me when I needed to talk to somebody via phone call. I saved my Phnom Penh trip because of MM and it was better than it should have been many thanks and gratitude management staff please recognize him for this.
Not at all this hotels fault but the Ambassador program (i.e. RA status) is a miserable failure by IHG corporate. I stay on average 100 nights in hotels per year (over the last 15 years Spire or equivalent status with IHG) for business and pleasure and would hope that gaining committed business from a customer like me is a goal. The rewards program for RA is arbitrary, unclear/mysterious and seemingly dynamic because of unclear requirements I have taken alot of my specific Intercontinental business elsewhere including competitors based upon this.
