Visiting High Wycombe – A Guide
High Wycombe is an old market town in an enviable setting of rolling countryside, with easy access to London by rail or car. Its High Street with Georgian features and a covered retail arcade make it a pleasant shopping destination, but it also has historic treasures to delight the cultural tourist.

High Wycombe: town layout
Lively markets three times a week, set between the 18th-century Guildhall and the 1604 Little Market House, have been the heartbeat of High Wycombe since medieval times. The Buckinghamshire town is well linked to London and the rest of the region, thanks to its proximity to the M4, M40 and M25 motorways and a well-serviced train station.

The concierge recommends…

  • The picturesque Pann Mill, which is the last of River Wye’s 37 watermills to remain. It’s switched on a few times a year at free family events.
  • Cheering on the Wycombe Wanderers Football Club at Adams Park Stadium.
  • West Wycombe for a scenic rural walk, historic intrigue and spooks all in one. Look out for Hell-Fire Caves and Church of St. Lawrence.

Hotels in High Wycombe
Being near major motorways M40, M4 and M25 puts High Wycombe within easy reach of Heathrow Airport, London, Oxford and Birmingham, so business visitors can combine accessibility with the delights of a countryside base.

You’ll find the parks and pools of Rye Park, Eden Centre’s shops, Wycombe Swan’s entertainment and the main train station all within the town centre.

Explore quaint towns and villages nearby – how about a lakeside setting in Marlow, or the royal charms of Windsor?

Eating Out in High Wycombe
The best way to mingle with locals is to head to the open air market and street-food court happening on High Street on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – from hog roasts to curries and homemade cakes, there is something for every taste. For coffee shops and family-friendly restaurants, wander through the Eden Centre. If you’re seeking a traditional pub experience to soak in Ye Olde English atmosphere, head to small villages on the outskirts.

The chef recommends...

  • Bangers and mash: This plateful of pork sausages, mashed potatoes and rich gravy is a pub staple.
  • Bubble and Squeak: Shallow-fried seasonal vegetables and potato cakes are served as a side-dish all day.
  • Local ale: Beer aficionados have plenty to choose from with local breweries producing extensive monthly and seasonal specials.

Shopping in High Wycombe
Whether you like market stalls or malls, High Wycombe has you covered. The Eden Centre offers a weatherproof setting to browse stores with plenty of options for coffee and lunch. Weekly markets on High Street are great spots for bargain hunting and to bag fresh, local produce.

High Wycombe Department Stores

  • In The Eden Centre, you can find quintessentially British Marks & Spencer and the upmarket House of Fraser.
  • John Lewis in Cressex Business Park off the M40 is a British institution dating back to the mid-19th century.

Culture & Nightlife in High Wycombe
High Wycombe has a strong chair-making heritage dating back to the 17th century. You can learn all there is to know about it at Wycombe Museum, which also has local art and photography. Hughenden Manor is a treat for history and politics enthusiasts; the home of Benjamin Disraeli is a treasure trove of insights into the life of the Victorian statesman and author.

If a lively Friday night out is what you’re seeking, Frogmoor is the neighbourhood for you.

  • Wycombe Swan has a busy programme of theatre, comedy, musicals and ballet suitable for all ages.
  • With 12 screens, 3D capability and live performance screenings, Cineworld entertains every day of the week.

Visiting High Wycombe with a Family
Thanks to large pedestrian areas, shopping with children feels safe and easy in the town centre. You can then walk to The Rye to burn off energy in the park, playground and heated open-air swimming pool. Beaconsfield’s model village, the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden and the great outdoors in Cliveden are all easy family day trips from High Wycombe.

Great Stay for meetings friends
By Renji691
The hotel was great, staff were welcoming and the entire atmosphere was warm and open. The room itself was excellent, cleaned every day and when I came back to the room after it was being cleaned [More] the staff member asked to see my room key for security reasons as the cleaner was leaving the room so I was really impressed by that. I did not have any food there due to being out of the hotel for most of the day(s) during my stay but the shower and toilet facilities in the room were impeccable and despite a little small was a steal for the price. Overall I will be staying at this hotel again when I next visit and will be recommending it to my friends and family. [Less]

Business Stop Over
By Jdt62
Friendly front desk service, efficent and polite although I was not asked if I'd prefer points or to take a drink/snack voucher neither was I asked if a wake up call or paper would be required. I [More] generally don't require paper or wake up call, so was quite surprised to find a newspaper outside my door in the morning, which I promptly dropped off at check in on my way to breakfast. Evening meal I intended to take in the bar but the limited seating forced me into a bustling dinning area which whilst amptly furnished I found a little to clinical to my taste and subsequently found it difficult to relax and enjoy my meal.
