Practical and convenient
By H3yChr1s
This was the closest Holiday Inn to give a base for our visit. Rooms have been updated since our last visit. Comfier beds and now shower stalls only being nice to step into. The main elevator [More] has been fixed. Although the doors are slow and complain during operation. Luckily there's a second elevator near the back parking area. Making it convenient for those with rooms on that side of the hotel. [Less]
Good room at an affordable rate
By Arnie_R
The stay was pleasant, and the room was spacious. We were assigned a room meant for disabled/handicapped people. We would have preferred a regular room, and some of the amenities were hard to use [More] because of this. This was not mentioned at the reception when we checked in, and I did not further bring it to their attention as we were already very tired after a long drive. But overall, it was a good experience, and the free parking and internet is always a plus. [Less]
Best Hotel in La Mesa, CA
By Rocket7
Holiday Inn La Mesa is by far, the best hotel in La Mesa. The first thing I noticed as I pulled into the drive way is the impeccable landscaping. There are two 'check-in' parking spots to the left [More] side of the entrance, so I pulled into one and brought my luggage in to the front desk. The lobby is spacious, fresh lemon infused water is available next to the front desk, there are comfy couches, and an ATM is located next to the front door. The hostess, Angelica, was the only desk staffer on duty. She was with another customer, and greeted me with a smile to let me know she would be with me momentarily. After she resolved the issue that the other customer had, she greeted me with the best smile ever, and began my check in. She recognized my membership status, and smoothly got me set up with room keys. Angelica is the best ever. I rolled my luggage into my room and went to park my vehicle. The front parking lot was full, so I headed to the rear lot where there is plenty of room for larger vehicles. The only disappointment is that I didn't see any security cameras or a roving security patrolman at night. My room was impeccably clean and smelled nice. Housekeeping does a great job and I could tell they take pride in their work. I review a bunch of hotels, and this one is in my top 5 for business. Highly Recommend! :) [Less]
Great Service - Bad food and sleep
By only1Gman
Overall the staff was the best part of this hotel, and went out of there way to accomodate any issues. However, there just isn't much they could do about the beds being too hard (my first boxspring [More] was broken, that was the initial problem). The lights shinning in my window all night didn't help and finally the food quality was the worst I have ever experienced in a hotel. [Less]
Nice, clean rooms with GREAT staff
By USAFGuy1977
The rooms were spacious enough and very comfortable. Common areas were clean and I had no complaints. The front staff (Especially Katherine I think) were amazingly friendly and helpful. They [More] really made me feel comfortable and at home. [Less]
Spacious room with super bathroom and kitchen
By MarilynL
Our family had three rooms -- a two-bedrooom, a one-bedroom and a studio. All of them were terrific. My husband and I had the studio, which I expected to be small, but it was huge and very [More] comfortable. The lighting -- very important to me, especially in the bathroom/sink area -- was great. The staff was always helpful and friendly, the lounge area with the 24-hr. fresh coffee was really cozy and appreciated, and the breakfast was excellent. There were seven of us all together, and we all agreed that this was by far our favorite of the several hotels we've stayed in for our annual Thanksgiving trips to San Diego. We'll definitely be back next year. [Less]
On Site Construction Fails to Ruin Stay
By Los Osos Al
We arrived to find major construction, (major!) going on. Elevators were not available during working hours. Disaster! Well, it would have been if not for the management and staff of the hotel. To a [More] person, they went beyond the call to overcome the challenges of on-site construction by providing a higher than expected level of service and hospitality. [Less]
Good Service and a warm bed
By lyo6444
I was initially put off by the area. It was the first time I'd been in this area of San Diego. Finding the hotel was easy-but dealing with the parking was a bit oft-putting. The garage entry is on [More] the next block over from the entrance. It was weird at first. Also, the garage is a tight fit. There is no room for error as you move through. It was obvious folks had scrapped the walls driving up the ramps. The building (hotel and the garage) is aged and there was construction going on during my visit. Initially, I lowered my expectations. However I was surprised that over the course of my visit, I managed to feel quite comfortable and because of my schedule, I wasn't influenced by the construction at all. The bathroom held quality supplies. Thank you! I was thrown off by the industrial commode though... But I can't complain. Everything worked... Breakfast was reasonable. Choices for the main entrees were changed daily. The basics-oatmeal, cereals, toast, whole fruits and the cinnamon rolls-were always present. The staff continuously kept moving in fresh foods, keeping the frig filled with milk, yogurt.... Seating was plentiful and staff kept things quite clean and presentable. Cookies (fresh) in the evening. Water and lemonade on tap, also there was coffee and tea available. I wasn't able to make the "Happy Hour"-but at least it was available. Would I go back? Yes. For the price and I'd be curious to see what the newly constructed areas looked like. [Less]
