Serving as both the capital and largest city of Hawaii, Honolulu represents the island state’s energetic epicenter. In Honolulu, you will also find one of Hawaii’s most popular beaches, Waikiki. The city stretches over much of the island of Oahu, the third largest Hawaiian island, all the way from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point. Honolulu is known for its arts, culture, and entertainment scene, offering a large array of activities from live music, dining experiences, art galleries, and some of Hawaii’s most historic sites.

Things to See

George Town, the capital of Grand Cayman, is the heart of the tourism industry on the island. The city is just a quick drive from the famous Seven Mile Beach, which is just 5 ½ miles long. Frequently voted one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, the glistening water and soft sands do not disappoint. The beach is dotted with colorful beach bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a cool breeze and listen to the waves crashing in. For the more adventurous travelers, a visit to Stingray City is at the top of our recommendation list. Take a dip or ride along in a glass bottom boat at this shallow sandbar retreat, where you can feed and interact with the Atlantic Southern stingrays.

Ready to sit back and relax? Head over to Rum Point, another post card-worthy beach on Grand Cayman’s North Side. The calm, shallow waters are perfect for families, and you can relish in great Caribbean food and local drinks like Tortuga Rum Punch and Mudslides. The North Side is home to a magnificent bioluminescent bay where millions of micro-organisms light up the water with a blue-green glow. Guided tours are offered nightly to experience the natural beauty in all its brilliance.

Where to Stay

The island of Grand Cayman is separated into 5 districts: Bodden Town, East End, George Town, North Side, and West Bay. Bodden Town was originally the capital of Grand Cayman and remains the largest district in the Cayman Islands. Much of the area is representative of the early Caymanian settlers and their historic past. West Bay and North Side are both home to the popular beaches. The Cayman Turtle farm, a conservation facility for the endangered Green Sea Turtle, and the Cayman Motor Museum are both located in West Bay. The large majority of resorts are located between West Bay and George Town. However, the island’s small size makes getting to and from various attractions easy and convenient.

How to Get to Grand Cayman

The Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) is the most convenient option for flying into Grand Cayman. The airport offers cab services with fixed rates to many popular island destinations. Going through security and customs is a notoriously lengthy process, so plan accordingly while traveling. The Grand Cayman Public Bus Transport offers transportation around the area to several tourist destinations throughout the day. Rental cars are available, but keep in mind that driving is on the left side of the road, which can be challenging for U.S. travelers who are used to driving on the right side. Another option for getting around the area is to rent a scooter or moped (perfect for riding off into the sunset). Helmets are required and are provided at rental facilities.
