Having been a backpacker in my younger years, I have always had an aversion to big western hotels. I find them soulless and all the same. You wake up, look around your room and have no idea which
country you are in. There was no mistaking where I was at Hotel Indigo, Shanghai on The Bund. The room decor was a gorgeous contemporary Chinese style, and had all the comforts you could possibly need.
We had an issue with our bed configuration but it was sorted after the first night and were upgraded to a corner room by the ever pleasant duty manager Karl, who was fantastic. The river side corner rooms are worth the extra if you can afford it.
I think this hotel has the best view in Shanghai. It is located at the southern end of The Bund, on the rivers edge with no buildings to obstruct the view of the historic part of The Bund or across to Pudong. It was about a 15 minute flat, safe and easy walk along the riverfront to the main part of The Bund, there is a Hop On Hop Off Bus stop 50m from the main entrance, and a big shopping, hotel, residential and business development being built across the road (almost complete so no disruption to your stay). This development will probably bring a bit more life to this quiet part of The Bund, so is a good thing.
Can't recommend this place highly enough. [Less]
