Where do I start.....all too frequently I have found myself spending my points on weekends away with the wife and being put in a dingy small box room facing a wall / noisy traffic as the hotel is
making no money out of me and neglects to remember that I stay away from home on business 100+ nights p/a which is worth a great deal to IHG.
I am an a Spire Ambassador and expect to be a Royal Ambassador in 2020 due to my continued loyalty, I earn c. 800k+ points p/a and my wife convinced me to spend 600k on 12 nights at this hotel....I was anxious based on previous experiences of spending points and how my family would be treated.........
........well the best hotel, 5* experience for my family that I could have wished for. We were treated like normal human beings and my status and loyalty recognised, provided with very nice rooms on a high floor (according to my profile which all too often goes unnoticed!) two adjoining rooms with pool view, cot for my baby and a single bed for my daughter, whilst the wife and I had a nice king size bed.
The hotel is great, big, clean, quiet ignore the stupid reviews from people about disco and pool attendants kicking out resort guests, yes there is entertainment, but with the double glazing closed you can't hear it and the pool is for hotel guests only not residents otherwise there wouldn't be enough room high season, but the beds, parasols are all of good quality and maintained very well.
The star of the show are the staff, Michael the manager and Fabrizio the Head Concierge couldn't do enough for myself and my family always went the extra mile, always made me and my family feel welcomed (even when the children where tired!) and made such an amazing effort for my daughters 4th Birthday, I was really taken a back. With little ones eating early is quite important and we found ourselves eating in the same handful of restaurants most nights, but where allowed to choose from a variety of menu's from the hotel to ensure that 'Mum & Dad' had a good time also (hugely appreciated!).
The breakfast is simply excellent and set us up for the day, the range of food is great and quality second to none with of course a service to match, be it the chefs cooking fresh pancakes or omelettes or the waiting staff attending to our every need or pre-empting our every need (the difference from most 5* hotels).
I work hard for my family and being away leaving mum to bring up the kids is never easy physically or emotionally, this holiday definitely made up for my time away and returned home refreshed, some great memories with the children and my faith in IHG restored.
To all the staff at Mar Menor a huge thank you, especially to Michael & Fabrizio, true professionals.
If I had one grip it would be the pool, it was undergoing some maintenance and the fountain / spa pool wasn't working, the pool had some glass shards around it from inconsiderate guests and broken glasses as opposed to using the plastic cups as most do but could have done with a daily spray / hose down to clear of debri and dust, however as the pool wasn't fully working as low in height it wasn't cleaning properly either, but once done will be the gem in the crown for the hotel as is a truly magnificent pool facility (please, please , please maintain it!) .
So thank you all at Mar Menor for a fantastic break, recognising someone that stays away from their family for a 1/3 of the working year and making our stay extra special, thank you. [Less]
