Comfortable for business or leisure
By Cyprusmal
It seems most of the guests were probably business with a smattering of leisure clients. We have visited before as we used to live in the area and were looking at properties with a view to moving [More] back. The hotel is convenient for the M56, therefore Liverpool and North Wales particularly. It offers a good range of food and has a comfortable bar area. The reception was particularly friendly when we arrived and had accurate information to hand. [Less]

Will be back next year god willing. This was our second visit to the hotel. So that must say a lot. As there are many, many hotels in the area. [Less]
Lovely weekend break in Chester
Travelling up to Chester from South Wales and meeting friends from Glasgow for a pre Christmas get together. Ideally located with around 4 hours travel time for both parties, and a great location in [More] the city centre with a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The hotel has a very nice informal atmosphere, with good parking facilities and helpful staff. The gym has excellent facilities. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and the only negative issue is that they could do with refreshing the décor, but we understand that the hotel is being 'rebuilt' in 2018. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a city centre hotel in Chester. [Less]
Best nights sleep
By Xmaspty
Convenient location for City centre. Hotel cleanliness impeccable. My wife had the best nights sleep she has ever had in any hotel. Staff all efficient and courteous. [Less]
Short Break
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Came with my husband sister-in-law and sister-in-law's partner to celebrate my sister-in-law's Birthday. Our rooms were on the Executive floor for which we paid an upgrade [More] fee because of the occasion which then entitled us to use the executive lounge. The rooms were very welcoming and the King size bed was something to behold. The only Question was why did they tuck the duvet into the bottom of the bed-strange. Facilities in the room were very nice - toiletries, hospitality tray, bathrobes and slippers, fluffy towels and a view of Chester Race Course and the Welsh Mountains. [Less]
Flying visit
By smumford15485
Reception staff always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bit crazy- not enough staff to prepare tables for guests! Really appreciate the refurb work but distinct smell of fresh paint is quite [More] overpowering in some places. Good overall [Less]
Convenient location and excellent refurbishment
By Romans 1
We stayed 3 nights over a weekend at the Holiday Inn Haydock. It has a large free car park with easy access to the entrance. The reception was bright and checkin was quick and efficient with a very [More] pleasant, welcoming receptionist. Our room on the first floor had just been refurbished and was very smart with a fresh new carpet, large TV and very smart modern bathroom with huge walk-in shower. The bed was comfortable and the curtains excellent giving full blackout. There was plenty of storage space in the large wardrobes. The wifi was good. Unfortunately there were big Christmas parties in the hotel on the Friday and Saturday nights and we were woken frequently by banging on doors and loud shouting in our corridor from inebriated guests. It was better on the Sunday. We would have rated the hotel as excellent had it not been for the disturbed nights. When it was quiet on the Sunday we slept very well and hope this would be the norm outside party seasons. [Less]
Pity about the food
By Nolnil
The hotel staff outshine the hotel which suffers from poor quality food and a lack of healthy options. Restricted by IHG standard menu, I would hope that given the opportunity the cooks would be able [More] to provide better food if left to their own ability. An option of salads (with proper lettuce and not just rocket) would be a suggestion where the meat choice would be the option. For example: Tuna, ham, cheese etc. There is too much fried choices or microwaved meals. [Less]
