They call Philadelphia “The City of Brotherly Love,” and indeed there is plenty to love in this sizable city. It is the largest city in Pennsylvania and the fifth-largest in the U.S. With good information to plan your visit, Philly is a prime place for lots of unforgettable experiences.

Things to See

While sports are a good reason to visit Philly, the city offers plenty other fantastic things to do. Come hungry; Reading Terminal Market is one of the city's top dining attractions. There you can sample the best of Philly's cuisine, whether you are craving an irresistible sandwich or a undeniably decadent dessert.

American history buffs cherish Philadelphia’s rich heritage, which includes landmarks like Independence National Historical Park and the famous Liberty Bell. Stroll through Independence Hall and be sure to say you visited must-see Valley Forge National Historic Park. The Philadelphia Zoo’s 42 acres serve as home to more than 1,300 animals, and its award-winning exhibits will thrill your entire family. You’ll also want to make time to see Longwood Gardens’ impressive display of horticulture.

Science fanatics should not leave without exploring the Franklin Institute, which hosts a walk-through model of a heart, the Sports Challenge, a Changing Earth display and an IMAX theater.

Hotels in Philadelphia

Philadelphia hotels take in a range of guests; some are ideal for solo business travelers while others cater to families. The city isn't exactly a resort destination so you won't find an overabundance of luxury hotels in the city, however there are still numerous options for high tastes, such as the Crowne Plaza property, or more affordable accommodations at Holiday Inn or the cozy Candlewood Suites.

Where to Stay

Old City is a top choice for vacationers in Philadelphia. This is where you'll find the city's top historic attractions as well as numerous shopping and dining options. Plus, the area is easy to walk so you won't have to worry about finding parking. Nearby Society Hill is another solid option; it is quieter than Old City but still close to the city’s core.

How to Get to Philadelphia

Philadelphia International Airport serves the city and the surrounding Pennsylvania area. If your hotel does not provide a shuttle service from the airport, it's easy to hop on public transportation and get into the main part of the city.

Best non-resort hotel we've ever stayed at
By KC2017
After a 3-hour drive, we arrived in town on Easter eve for a family event the next morning. We could not have been happier with our accommodations. Both our kids had their own bed in a separate [More] bedroom from ours. The kitchenette was perfectly sized and had everything we needed. The breakfast buffet was off-the-charts OUTSTANDING!!! Overall, the hotel was extremely clean, and the staff was very polite. We look forward to our next stay here. [Less]

overall excellent
By kbkb
Overall an excellent experience...the room was comfortable, staff courteous and helpful, clean, strong shower, good amenities...the only down sides were a cramped bathroom with a finicky door and the [More] housekeeping staff making a fair amount of noise knocking on doors really early in the morning. noise level
By Charlie
I was happy with everything except the noise level on the night we checked in. My husband was scheduled for surgery the next morning and we had to be at the hospital by 5 a.m. so we requested a wake [More] up call at 4 a.m. There were doors banging half the night. We later found out there was a volleyball tournament going on for the week of our stay. Not sure if it was this group causing the noise, however the first night was the worst. It was just unfortunate that was the night before surgery. I did report the noise at the desk the next morning, and it did improve. We had a room with a door that you could enter the room aside of mine. It seemed like the walls adjourning the room was very thin cause we could hear them talking, but it wasn't a problem late at night. [Less]
