We found the hotel similar to most other HIE hotels we have stayed in. A reasonable standard for room accommodation for short stay, breakfast is basic but edible, staff are courteous and helpful, and
car parking is adequate. The Oldbury HIE has the benefit of a large public house next door which serves a good range of meals. The surrounding environment is not great and the main Birmingham/Wolverhampton Rd is noisy and so use of ear plugs may be warranted.
We asked for a quiet room but were given one on the first floor with a connecting door to the adjacent room. This meant we got quite a lot of noise from the neighbours even though they were not behaving unreasonably. When we pointed this out to the reception staff the next morning her response was for us to be more specific next time about this, whereas the hotel really should learn from the feedback and not put the onus on the guest.
One problem we have with most HIE hotels is the heavy quilt on every bed and no alternative such as blankets. This seems to be HIE policy and means we take our own blankets as we find the quilt far too hot. [Less]
