Book our Mississauga, Ontario, hotels to be near Toronto, Canada's largest city. Catch a sweeping view of Toronto from the CN Tower and explore the magnificent Royal Ontario Museum before returning to Mississauga to prowl for deals in nearby malls.
Our Mississauga hotels are a short commuter-train ride from cosmopolitan central Toronto. For a complete overview of the city, head straight to the CN Tower downtown. Rise more than 1,800 feet to the tower's observatory deck for a higher-than-bird's-eye view of Toronto's dense city skyscrapers and shimmering Lake Ontario. The nearly 3-inch thick glass floor provides a dizzying view straight down to the bustling city streets. The crystalline Royal Ontario Museum houses Canada's greatest collection of ancient artifacts. You'll see royal Chinese tombs, statues of Egyptian gods, and meteorites from outer space all in the same day. Kids love the dinosaur exhibit, where they can dig for fossils. Back in Mississauga, families can let loose in Playdium, a massive arcade of interactive video games, go-karts and batting cages.
Bargain-hunters will find deals at hundreds of shops just minutes from our hotels in Mississauga. The Square One Shopping Centre has the latest in major brand name American and Canadian clothing, while the Dixie Outlet Mall sells similar brands at deep discounts. Choose from dozens of casual restaurants serving grilled steaks, cheesy pizzas and hefty burgers near Square One. Guests of our Mississauga hotels can also dine in Toronto, where restaurants, cafes, and canteens dish up nearly every cuisine in the world.
Book a room at our Holiday Inn® Mississauga hotels in June for the Carassauga cultural fair, when the town's ethnically diverse citizens offer rare regional food from more than 30 countries. Or, visit in September for the movie premiers at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Overall a good place for a night or two if you want good access to the highways in and out of Toronto, but easy to go downtown via Metro from Yorkdale Mall. Also good access across the road to[More] Yorkdale Mall. Nothing picturesque about the hotel or surroundings, but an OK place to sleep while coming from/going to somewhere else. Condition and fit-out of the rooms are a little above average for a Holiday Inn.[Less]
Staff great, hotel fine, specific problems
The staff in every capacity at this hotel were at least very good and for the most part were superb. The guest rooms were perfectly adequate although our room in the west wing (11th floor) was[More] surprisingly noisy due to traffic well into the night. It didn't disturb my sleep but a more sensitive sleeper might want to specify that they want to be away from traffic noise when they book. I'm not sure if it is uniformly the case but I stayed in the east wing last time and it wasn't an issue then.
There were three problems with this hotel which might be a non issue depending upon your needs and situation:
1. The lighting in the guest room was very poor - all of it.
2. The (rather small) gym is located within a few feet of the indoor swimming pool and is not closed off. The windows are slatted (I think) and the top is open. There is just no way around it - the air is way too humid and warm to be appropriate for an exercise area. It needs to be self-contained and air-conditioned. Period. If exercising in the gym is an important part of your experience you may want to consider another place to stay. I exercised a couple of times (normally I would have been there almost every day) and my partner ran outside.
3. This hotel is located directly across a freeway (there are traffic lights so it is easy to cross) from Yorkdale Shopping Centre which is a HUGE mall. (For those who do not know Toronto, do not confuse this with Yorkville which is a tony area much closer to city centre.) The subway is located at the opposite end of the mall. It takes about 15 minutes to walk fairly briskly from the hotel to the subway with stairs in a couple of places. A few years ago I stayed in this hotel and it was no problem at all. This time I had a knee problem and it was a struggle just psyching myself up to trekking over to the subway which took me almost 25 minutes to get to. So depending upon whether walking is OK or not this may or may not be an issue.[Less]
