Comfortable bed and friendly staff

This hotel provides a great value. It is a little far from the station, but close to omicho. I just wish breakfast was included with the rate. My room also didn't have a toothbrush. [Less]

Great Value and Location for Sightseeing
By FlyinHawaiian
We had a very pleasant three-night stay at the end of November. We selected this property over the the Crowne Plaza at the Kanazawa Train Station due to the lower cost and availability of [More] suites. The location is about a 10-15 min walk from the station and is on the main street that leads from the station so it is not difficult to find. There are public buses that you can take for 200 JPY and a JR Rail bus (free if you have a JR Rail Pass) if you don't want to make the walk. The entrance is off the main street; you take elevators up to the 16th floor for check in. Check in is very professionally done by sitting at a desk while the agent goes over your details, explains the property to you, and then gives you your card keys. As Platinum Elite members, we were offered a choice of drink coupons or 500 points; we took the latter. We also used the takkyubin (or Ta-Q-Bin) baggage delivery service to have our bags sent to/from our hotels in Tokyo (highly recommended if travelling by Shinkansen) without any issue. The hotel was happy to add the charges to my room charges. We booked a Japanese-style suite and were given one on the 15th floor; the rooms are on floors 10-15. The suite is divided into areas for bathing and the water closet and the sleeping area. Upon entry into a small foyer you remove your shoes (there's a small bench with storage and a shoehorn to help) and step up into the bathing area. There is a small water closet with a Toto washlet unit and sink and then a larger sink area where the bath amenities are located. The bathing room consists of a large shower area and soaking tub with a full window to the outside (blinds are available for privacy). Japanese-style bathing involves sitting on a stool for cleaning and using a handheld shower for rising. You can adjust the height of the showerhead to allow Western-style stand-up bathing. The bedroom area consisted of two twin beds pushed together surrounded by tatami mats. The beds can be pushed apart a bit for privacy, if needed. There are small bedside tables with power. Adjacent to the sleeping area is a small L-shaped couch with a coffee table and desk with an office chair. It was nice to have the extra room to spread out during our stay. Storage consists of a chifforobe with a small safe (large enough for a small laptop) and an iron and full-size ironing board. There's not a lot of storage for folded clothes in the room; we ended up living out of our suitcases for the most part. Overall, the suite was very nice. There were some signs of wear and tear and the overall decor is a bit dated, but these are minor demerits. Our rate included free breakfast. The buffet is very nice and has expansive selections, about 1/3 Western options and 2/3 Japanese. Kanazawa is known for its seafood so it was not surprising to see a nice selection of fresh sashimi and raw shrimp along with other local dishes. Eggs can be ordered to complement the buffet dishes. The location of the property is across the street from the Omicho Market which is a must-see for the fresh seafood and other stalls. We bought some spices and snacks and had lunch at one of the adjacent restaurants. We also walked to the nearby (five min walk) Kenroku-en Garden and Kanazawa Castle. The autumn colors were in full display. We used a combination of local and JR buses to explore to some of the other historic districts; there's numerous lines that stop very close to the hotel. We also found a 24-hour coin laundry about four blocks from the hotel that was very convenient and easy to use. The hotel is connected to the Meitetsu M'za department store for gift shopping and has a very nice depachika food floor for snacks. We cobbled together a very pleasing dinner and ate it in our room one night. We'd definitely consider staying here for future visits. [Less]
