We chose to stay at the Phoenix Chandler Golf Resort so that we could play golf at the adjacent golf course. The hotel offers a "stay and play" package which is very good value - it includes one
round of golf per person per day, including the cost of a buggy. We stayed 8 nights and played 7 days at the San Marcos golf course, which I am told is the oldest golf course in Arizona. This is an excellent holiday golf course - not too difficult, and with a very relaxed atmosphere and really friendly staff. The only comment I might make is that it would be good if there was a reciprocal agreement between San Marcos and some of the other nearby golf courses, so that guests could occasionally play at a different course, for a bit more variety.
As regards the hotel, the staff are really friendly and welcoming. The a la carte breakfast is excellent. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The only negative comment I would make is that the exterior of the hotel is looking a bit worn, and maybe not up to the usually exceptional quality of other Crowne Plaza properties. Perhaps the hotel is due for a refurbishment over the next couple of years? However, we had a good stay, and would be very happy to recommend it to golfing friends, and we would be happy to return.
