Arrival after long drive though mountains was very friendly by the staff at desk Sunday night. I wanted to upgrade to a larger room, but had booked off of points so wasn't sure how it would work.
Staff quickly took care of that and upgraded me to a room that worked great for the week.
Restaurant (Rex's) on site is run by a family that has several of the better places to eat in Steamboat. They were busy even on a Sunday night, but they had one open table and was seated properly. We enjoyed the food and convenience so much we went back on Friday night.
They run a shuttle every 15 minutes from hotel to gondola base in morning and late afternoon (every hour between 10-3). Drivers were friendly and helpful in loading / unloading. Never waited long for them and HI offers a locked room by lobby to store ski gear which made it easy to load / unload each day. Staff at desk consistently had the key ready to unlock the storage room even when they were busy helping others (never had to wait or ask). They also had hot coffee and cookies in lobby late afternoon which was nice after skiing. There are other shuttles that come by to take you downtown for food, but we drove each night without issues finding parking, so can't comment on the other shuttles other than to say we saw a number of people using them.
The hot tubs and pool area was kept clean and in good working order. Nice to relax in after a day of skiing. Throughout the week I found the hotel very quiet, although Friday night had a number of families that brought kids and dogs, so the noise level increased considerably before 10pm and pretty quiet after that. Room was in good condition and clean. The one improvement I would need to poke at is some of the attention to detail from maid service. They forgot used towels on floor one day and forgot to refill coffee cups / Keurig. Overall maid service still ok, but they were minor annoyances that can be easily fixed. [Less]
