Featured Athens Hotels

Stay in our Holiday Inn® Athens hotels to discover this hotbed of trend-setting musicality. Athens, Georgia, calls itself the ultimate college town, but it's also a gracious Southern city of a certain age, with a sleepy pace and beautiful antebellum homes.

Book a stay at our hotels in Athens and see why it's considered a musical laboratory for budding rock stars. Live music streams out of clubs and cafes orbiting the University of Georgia campus. Pick up the free Athens Music History Walking Tour at the Athens Welcome Center, and see the legendary venues where native bands like R.E.M. and the B-52s got their start. Chartered in 1785, UG is one of the oldest universities in the country. Stroll storied Old North Campus, with crisscrossing greenswards lined with old oaks, magnolias and elks. Or spend a languid hour or two under the wisteria-clad arbors in the State Botanical Garden of Georgia-entry is free. Reopening in early 2011 after a major expansion, the Georgia Museum of Art includes works by Georgia O'Keefe, Stuart Davis, and Andrew Wyeth. If you're pressed for time, an easy and convenient way to explore the city's historic sights is on the 1-hour Classic City Tour from the Athens Welcome Center.

The city's culinary landscape is as electric as its music scene. Award-winning eateries rub shoulders with modest soul-food joints downtown, close to our Athens hotels. The city's club and bar scene reflects the local passion for music of all genres. Head downtown to the 40 Watt Club, still promoting edgy musical artists after 30 years.

Make our Athens hotels your convenient base for enjoying this Georgia college town, with a vibrant music scene in a historic Old South setting.

great for money

had never stayed at candlewood suites before so was surprised by full kitchen, all very clean. for price, as long as you have car to get to downtown athens, was very good. so good that it was fully [More] booked and they only had one key per room available when we checked in. the gym could use more functional equipment. both steppers were not great but there was free laundry! to be used while you work out, which had i known, probably would have used and plan to use if i ever go to another candlewood hotel. also, laundry only done once per week, which i don't mind but my friend who came along, took issue with this. you can request extra, but maybe an issue for some. the other issue was that we could hear someone stomping around in the room above, in the wee hours of am most nights. not sure if this could be helped in any way. sleep would have been fine otherwise. overall great for this price point [Less]

My cell phone died on my trip. I am a T-Mobile customer and there were not any stores in the immediate area. The girl at the front desk pulled up the closest stores and printed directions to get me [More] there. Thanks to her I found the store and they were able to get me up and running again. [Less]
Pleasant stay in Madison, GA
By datilderek
My Stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Madison, Georgia was better than I expected. The hotel was picked by my company, so I did not know what to expect when I arrived. The hotel staff is very [More] friendly and helpful, and always seemed to be in a good mood. The rooms are simple and clean, with all of the basics that you need. My room had a king bed, with a micro-fridge and microwave. The bathroom was nice, though the door interfered with getting into the shower. There also isn't a bathroom vent, so the shower steams the room quickly. My only other gripe about the room is that the A/C was either too hot, or too cold. It also blows directly on you when in bed. It would be better is the thermostat were on the wall, and the air was directed into the room without blowing onto the bed. The bed is comfortable, and there is a selection of pillows to choose from. The TV selections are average, and the internet is decent. The breakfast was better than many of the hotels that I stay in. The selection was varied, and the automatic pancake machine was fun to use. I enjoyed eggs, sausage, pancakes and yogurt daily, and grabbed a piece of fruit for later in the day. There is also pastries, cereal, bagels, biscuits and gravy, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, and a few other items that were tucked in between the items that I noticed. I am staying at Holiday Inn Express for many weeks over the next year, and will be enjoying the amenities of this hotel. The friendly staff is sure to make my time away from home more pleasant. I would make an effort to stay here if I were ever in the area for pleasure. [Less]
