Istanbul City was a pleasant surprise. I traveled with my daughter for combined business and leisure, so we were looking for a place to sleep and to get ready for Istanbul activities in the morning. The room was small, but just right for our stay.
The hotel is located right across the street from a tramway stop, which means direct public transportation access to Ataturk Airport, Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia, and Blue Mosque. Public tranport is easy and relatively seemless to get to and from the hotel.
There are nearby local shops and cuisine that are within a 10 minute walk, and my daughter and I found lots of interesting places to window shop and to eat.
Hotel staff were helpful and provided great information about getting around the city. They helped us get good taxi service to the airport in the night when public transportation was not available.
One hang up: at the time of booking, it seemed that breakfast was complimentary. However, after the first breakfast, we were charged for subsequent breakfasts. It was not immediately clear what was complimentary and what was not.

The hotel is a new modern construction. It is very conveniently situated on Turgut Ozal Cad, a central road. We took the Metro from the airport to Zeytinburnu Station, walked out and boarded Tram T1 going into the city. We got off at Pazartekke Tram Station, right in front of the Hotel. We bought a metro card at the airport and uploaded cash onto it. Thus each journey was far cheaper than paying per ride. There are several helpful assistants at the Metro ticket machines at the airport.
We checked in swiftly and the receptionists were always helpful. Our room was comfortable, although not as wide as other Holiday Inns. However, there was a kettle, as well as tea, coffee and milk. The mini-bar was well-stocked and there was also a built-in safe. The bathroom was spacious and a variety of toiletries was provided.
The free Wi-Fi worked all the time and the password was provided with the room cards. We were also assisted (since we do not know Turkish) and were able to print our boarding passes on the computers in the lounge area.
The air-conditioning was most welcome in the heart of the summer. We had a room facing the road which was cool in the afternoons. The rooms facing the pool get the sun in the afternoon. Towels are provided by the pool.
We found the mattress and pillows in room 411 too soft. Unfortunately we only discovered that we could’ve asked for firmer pillows on the last day. We will do so next time.
A very wide selection was provided at breakfast from tea, coffee, fresh fruit juices, water, fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread, cheese, olives, vegetables, cold meat, omelets, pancakes, mini pizzas, biscuits, nuts, dried fruit and Turkish delight.
Reception told us how to get to the Olivium Shopping center about 15 minutes away. Cross the road and take Bus 93M out of the city. Tell the bus driver where you are going & he’ll tell you when to get off. On your return the bus stops right in front of the hotel.
We also went to the upmarket Kanyon shopping centre & the Metrocity AVM at Levent Station on the Green Line. The former is worth visiting from an architectural point of view. When you reach the security check for your bags (like at the airport), the Metro City Mall is on your left while the Kanyon is directly ahead.
Tram T1 (destination Kabatas) takes you to the Grand Bazaar (get off at Beyazit – Kapalicarsi). From Kabatas you can also take the local ferry to the princes Islands, cheaply.
The only negative thing we found was the position of the television. It’s fine when seated on the sofa but you can’t watch it comfortably from the bed.
Finally, we were amused to discover that the painting on the wall opposite the bed was hung wrongly. Someone needs to turn it so one can see the outline of the city. We will most certainly visit again.

Loved it, can't be more specific than this. On a magnificent city, finding a cozy and comfortable place as the Holiday Inn was really a plus. With so many overprice places, this one was too much for the price, couldn't believe it! Will definitely add it to my list of favorite hotels!
