have stayed at this hotel many times, however on my last stay was really disappointed with the service.
I was in a room on the 2nd floor, just about as far away from reception as possible, I stayed for 2 evenings and on both occasions the key card didn't work and I was left waiting to be let into my room as reception could not find anybody to assist.
I then ordered room service which came quickly, however part of the order was missing and I also asked for salt, I was told this was on the tray, it was not. When the remainder of the food came it had gone cold and then when the salt arrived half an hour later it was all cold.

I have stayed a few times at this Holiday Inn at Elstree recently as the location is good and rates are very reasonable considering proximity to central London. Very good initial ambience lots of space, nice looking reception desk. Check in rather austere not friendly in the slightest. Had a quick pint in the nice enough bar area served quickly and efficiently.
Used room service as could not find any easy access to when the restaurant was open. There was nothing happening in there at 7pm and it was all in darkness which seemed strange. Room service was quick and my burger was just ok.
Room a little tired lots of bumps and scrapes on doors and walls but comfortable and large.
Breakfast - more confusion - sign says wait to be seated but no-one around to seat you (7 am), Clients just wander in and seat themselves. This seemed accepted so why the sign and this is not normal process for Holiday Inn so a bit off -putting. No hot breakfast put out until about 7,15am by which time I was needing to leave.
Check out fast but again staff seemed disengaged.
Decent hotel site, good location and I will use again and see if I can get a civil word out of any member of staff. It was a strangely empty experience with staff who seemed pre-occupied and stressed. Pity as this has the makings of an excellent hotel..

Poor room comfort (stains/housekeeping) and uninterested staff.
