Disappointing Stays from Check-In to Check-Out

Overall, I was very disappointed with my stays at this hotel. Upon check-in, I let the staff know I had 2 rooms reserved, and specified my room types. My family and I accessed our rooms, and one was not the correct room type. We had to go back to the front desk, and get set-up in another room. “Attention to detail”. Next, we had lunch at the restaurant, we were provided poor customer service for an over-priced meal. The server seemed very frustrated with us because we took the time to look at the menu. When I asked about the pizza, the hotel charges 14 Euro for a frozen pizza. Breakfast was 18 Euros a person, and extremely overpriced. You receive almost the exact same breakfast for free at all Holiday Inn Express. The rooms were dirty and outdated. We chose not to have room cleaning in both rooms for the 4 days while we were there, to receive an extra 1,000 points for each room, and I did not receive the points. We purchased items at the Carrefour, and placed them in or refrigerator, to find out the next morning our refrigerator did not work. We had to throw out 2 cartons of milk, yogurt, and several sandwiches. This cost me about 20 Euros. One night, we grabbed a meal from a local restaurant and took it back to our room. On the way up to the room, I asked the bartender for some glasses to poor our drinks. First, he started to hand me some glasses from the bar, then he walked away, and came back with dirty/filthy glasses, and handed them to me. I attempted to use the business center, and the printer did not work. I had to email all my documents to the front desk, and have them print everything out. There is an advertisement in the hotel elevator that states 24/7 Starbucks coffee. One morning I woke up at 0530 and went down for coffee. The man behind the counter told me they did not serve coffee until 0630, but I watched him make himself a cup. Check-out was ridiculous. I went down at 0500 to check-out, the entry/exit was locked, and both staff members were sleeping in the bar area. I woke them up so I could load my bags. It took my 30 minutes to check-out, because the staff member overcharged me, and did not know how to fix it. It was only a Euro, so I told him do not worry about it because I needed to get on the road, but please email me my receipt. I never received my receipt for this stay, and again, I never received the 2,000 points for not using the cleaning service.

One thing I am grateful for is their room cleaning member are honest. My son left his wallet in the room. I contacted the hotel, and they secured it for me. This was the one plus for me.

On to the second stay. We live 6 hours away, so we had to drive back to the hotel a few days later to pick up my sons’ wallet. Last minute, we decided to stay the night instead of making the drive back. We checked-in at the hotel, and this time we were put into a room in a separated portion of the hotel. The rooms were definitely newer, but the bathroom was dirty, and the phone did not work. After a long day, we attempted to order room service, because the phone did not work in our room, we had to walk to the bar and order. We placed our order at 2100. At 2208, there was a knock on the door from the gentlemen that we placed the order with. He stated he was trying to call us to pick up our food, but our phone was off the hook. We let him know that the phone was broken. Our food had been ready for a while, so he said he would remake it. 5 minutes later, there was a knock at the door, and it was obvious they reheated the food in the microwave. I ordered a mixed grill plate, and all the meat was extremely tough from being microwaved. My wife had a club sandwich that sat out for over an hour, and upset her stomach. The next morning, we got on the road at 0400. Again, the doors were locked, and both staff members were sleeping in the bar area. I woke them up to let us out.
