The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Alexandria-Historic District has a great staff. I needed an early check-in after a difficult trip and the staff was able to provide this benefit to me. The rooms are very quiet and comfortable. This Holiday Inn is conveniently located for visits to Alexandria or Washington, DC. The shuttle operates on a timely basis to historic King Street and Ronald Reagan National Airport. I also did not mind the walk to Braddock Road Metro Station (about half a mile) and felt safe walking there day or night.

I've stayed here many times and the staff is amazing. Anything I need, or I think I need they have.
But it's also the staff's personalities that make me feel welcome every time.
Thank you Moe and thank you Elsa.

Holiday Inn boring. Got in at 11:00pm and couldn't even get a bottle of water. Bar closed, no food available except for a little shop that opened up in the late morning. I am findinh HIE a much better value. Standard Holiday Inns provide you with very little but a bed and bathroom nowadays.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by RB_BRU Shockingly noisy ventilation even with aircon turned of. Swimming pool only open 4pm-9pm during the week
A very disappointing experience. I booked this hotel because it had a swimming pool and I wanted to swim before I went to my meetings every morning. Unfortunately when I arrived I found that the pool is only open 4pm-9pm on weekdays (longer at weekends) and there is nothing to be done about this because State regulation stipulates that there has to be a life guard on duty. Also, the pool is the size of a postage stamp. It's probably lovely in summer when it opens up to an open air pool. However, the opening hours should be clearly stipulated when booking.
My other huge gripe is the noise from the archaic air-conditioning. When it is on it is unbelievably loud. But even when it is off there is a thunderous noise coming through the ventilation in both the bedroom and bathroom. You definitely need ear plugs to sleep. There is a (small# bath in the bathroom - but it is impossible to have a nice relaxing bath because of the awful noise.
Room was a reasonable size, basic but functional. But there is no safe deposit box in the room which I find unacceptable.
Wifi was also pretty erratic. On my first day it was not available from around 8pm at night until after 7pm the next morning. I missed one conference call with Europe and had to go to Starbucks at 7am to be able to participate in a second.
Also annoying is that the bar/resto and room service are only available between 4pm and 9pm. This seems exceptionally limited - especially as the hotel is not so close to the bars and restos of King Street #Around a 15 minute walk - probably ok in summer but not so pleasant in freezing winter temperatures).
Also note that there is a very hefty service charge added to room service orders. My check was 45 dollars but I was charged a 9 dollar service fee as well as a 2 dollar tray fee. This is not stipulated in the room service menu.
On a positive note, Karen at reception and the bar and room service staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, based on this experience, it is very unlikely I would ever stay at this hotel again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SGLR Friendly and helpful staff
Loved Bill at the bar, quietly professional and also served us at dinner. Front desk folks were extremely helpful at all times. We were surprised with everything we found since I definitely shopped by price for this mini vacation. We were traveling with two grandsons who flew in just so we all could visit DC together. That made cost, cleanliness and the indoor pool important. We certainly found the shuttle to a metro station essential and appreciated that service.
Since we have quite a number of grandkids, I expect we will see you again soon for another tour of DC.
Thanks for all that your staff did to make our stay so enjoyable and for maintaining a full service property that is affordable.

My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn/Alex Historic Distric. The only things that could have been improved are: more information about how breakfast works at the hotel (we ended up going to a diner nearby); a way to confirm a King bed (we ended up with 2 beds in the room although I booked one); and a way to guarantee that we would have a frig in our room for our next reservation. We have some special needs with regard to food/beverage due to allergies and its nice to have a frig in the room. These are small things, which is why I say it was 'almost perfect.' We will definitely stay there again and found it to meet all of our needs and be very comfortable. I LOVED being able to find free street parking! That was a total suprise!
