Upgraded to suite based on Gold status. The room was large, clean and extremely comfortable. Personal Sky HD box and two TVs.
Restaurant was clean and spacious, food was hot and the menu had good choices. 5 star and well recommended.

I've stayed at this hotel for years under it's various owners and it's been badly in need of a face-lift for some time. Not only have they done that been it's been done superbly and it's not even finished. The reception and bar area are unrecognisable from previous, very up to date and modern, spacious and well laid out.
I was upgraded to one of the recently refurbished executive rooms which was equally modern with a great decor, very comfortable bed and well done out bathroom with walk-in shower.
This brings me to the only slight negative points. I prefer a choice between bath and shower but there's no bath so that was limited. Secondly, the water pressure for the shower wasn't great so it wasn't the best, this may be due to being on the second floor? These were very small points though in the overall scheme of things.

Very average experience hotel.
No recognition of the IHG status at check in, no room upgrade also.
The hotel its self looks fine from the outside but upstairs is old.
Currently the hotel is having "renovations but even these parts feel dated.
Rooms whilst a nice size again are from the 70s in feel.
Noise between rooms is also noticeable.

Stayed here 2 nights for work. My room was a bit dated but otherwise 'OK' (I believe they are refurbishing all rooms). Only problem: not sufficient water pressure for a decent shower.
Although slight noise from A43 in front of hotel, it didn't prevent a good sleep. English breakfast was average at best (been out for a while @8am), there was only one person serving at breakfast so took a while before I could order and receive my cappuccino (but admittedly the best I had anywhere for a while! :-)
In summary: not the best Hols Inn example but fair value for money and it will be better experience I'm sure after rooms have been refurbished.

Before you book check the progress of renovations. Things should be better when all done. At all cost avoid unrenovated rooms! The staff are not the friendliest in IHG land.

We were welcomed by friendly and helpful receptionist as my husband is disabled. The Accessible room was one of the best we had stayed in, clean, roomy, and comfortable. The only downfall was that the mattress was hard and so we didn't get a good night sleep.
We had a first class meal in the restaurant but the menu could have had a bit more variety but the service was very good. Breakfast was exceptional as the food was hot. The facilities are brilliant. All in all a wonderful stay.
