Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, great service and wonderful food I usually avoid " hotel food", but decided to try the restaurant off the lobby of the Holiday Inn Downtown in Buffalo NY. The service was top notch and our meals were simply excellent! We enjoyed a dinner special, a free bottle of wine with 2 entrees, which was just perfect. I ordered the Tuscan scallops and shrimp over pasta in a lemon garlic sauce. The shrimp were huge, the scallops seared perfectly and the sauce was the perfect blend of flavor without the garlic over powering the dish. I would return and order the same dish without hesitation. My wife was equally pleased with her chicken dish. We enjoyed a wonderful 2 night stay in Buffalo, and would gladly return to the Holiday Inn Downtown. April 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by What Changed at this Hotal? Very disappointed with my recent stay at the Holiday Inn Buffalo and hope it was just an off-day and not reflective of a change at the hotel. This is an older hotel with typical older hotel quarks… but that has never been an issue because their customer service has always been stellar. This stay, however, was anything but stellar. First, I was told there is now an “Informal Policy” that they no longer will drive people (including me) in their van to a very close (less than 10 blocks) business where I had a morning meeting (has never been questioned in the past 6+ years and indeed, was given a very nice tour of the neighborhood a few years ago by the van driver). They only provide transportation to the airport. Thus, the driver and desk clerk told me to take a cab. Although the front desk called a cab for me, I had to wait 20 minutes which caused me to be nearly late for a meeting. The entire time I waited, the driver and the desk clerk talked about nothing but what bars are best in town while we waited for the cab. Not good customer service. Was it just the van driver being lazy? Interestingly, it was the same driver that took more than an hour and a half to pick me up at the airport the night before. What is an “informal policy” and why would the hotel not try to make me a happy customer when it would have been so easy! FYI the cab fare was $4.20. Second, they were so busy chatting about bars, they forgot to send me a wake-up call as requested. There were many additional issues with this stay, but I am limited on word count. Needless to say, I canceled my Friday evening reservation at the hotel and stayed at the Holiday Inn Airport. Again, I hope this hotel was having an off day as I have always been more than pleased with the service. April 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Service! I stayed here for one night and it was fantastic! The hotel staff were all very friendly. We arrived early and our room was already ready which was nice. The room was nice and the beds were super comfortable. I also enjoyed the free parking, it is not something that you find too often anymore, so I really appreciated that. I will be staying here again on my next visit to Buffalo! April 21, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unlike previous stays at this hotel. The Holiday Inn Buffalo is an older hotel which is showing signs of it's age. But when customer service is great, I have no problem overlooking the age of a hotel and indeed, sometimes an older hotel has character that makes it charming. In the case of this hotel, I have stayed an average of five to six nights each year for the past half decade. I stay because the hotel is in a vibrant neighborhood and has historically offered exceptional customer service. I have to be honest, I was very shocked by the inconsistent and less than stellar service this past stay. It was such a departure from what I have come to expect. I hope it was simply an off week for the hotel because again, it was so different than what I have experienced in the past. My stay started with a key did not work in the door. I had to be moved to another room because I was told the maintenance man had gone home for the day (7pm Sunday) and they were worried that the battery may be low and I would be locked out if I left the room. Not the best way to start a stay, but, it happens and I was treated decently. My real issue was in the morning. For the past 6 years, the hotel has always allowed me to take the shuttle to the convention center in the morning. I was informed by the not so polite desk clerk that there is now an 'informal' policy that they no longer take people anywhere in the van other than the airport. Understand, the driver for the van, who also took more than an hour and a half the night before (Sunday night) to get one of my coworkers at the airport, was standing behind the counter having a discussion with the clerk about what bars were best in town. After questioning why they could not take me and my party a short distance (less than a mile according to the taxi I spent $4.80 on, I was again told they have to have the van available for the airport. They did agree to call a cab for me and my party and while I waited (and was late getting to my appointment) 20 minutes for the taxi, I continued to listen to the two talk about what bars are good and what ones are not. Needless to say, there were no guests going to the airport. As a guest of the hotel, it APPEARED that they were just to lazy to want to take us. Good customer service would say they should have offered us a coffee or something if they refused to drive us. I did ask if they knew how long it was since they had called the cab and I was very rudely told 15 minutes. We did make it to the convention center by taxi. It was a nice day so we walked back to the hotel at the end of the day. The icing on the cake? I set up a wake-up call the second morning (Tuesday). It never came. Good thing I set my own alarm. I guess the conversation at the front desk was more important than making sure the wake-up call was completed. I am not sure I will give this hotel another chance. I was schedule to come back to the hotel on Friday evening. I ended up rebooking for a night at the Holiday Inn Airport. I hope the Holiday Inn Buffalo was simply having a bad week. In previous stays I have been treated great and have enjoyed the company of a van driver who was a retired cop (yes, he was the nice and that good that I remember him by name!). April 20, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient near College, but lacks basis amenities. My daughter and I stayed here for a College Visit to Buffalo State. The hotel was convenient and nice. There was City transportation nearby to take us to the College.We visited downtown Allentown district, more restaurants and people. The only pet peeves were that the hotel has one restaurant and small staff. we wanted to have dinner, we arrived at the entrance, there was no hostess to greet us. We waited a few minutes and left after seeing the place was packed with people, who were not eating. It was obvious the people hadnt ordered yet and we didnt have all night to wait to eat. Also there was no microwave or fridge in the room. I later read in the hotel brochure that they charge $10 per night for both which is insane! I have never heard of such nonsense for a hotel. The hotel needs to include these items and not inconvenience customers. April 16, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location This is a tired old building but suits the purpose for a one night stay. Elevators were very slow. Dust bunnies behind the curtains in the room. Took a half an hour for the toilet to refill. Lots of minor stuff but nothing major. Easy walk to the famous Anchor Bar. Easy drive to the downtown sports venues. April 15, 2015

They did not try helping us with our problem at all, they actually just made it worse because they were so rude to us. I would not stay at this hotel again.
