Having been a loyal customer of IHG and always staying with the IHG brand I was disappointed with this particular stay. Staying for 3 nights, upon checking I was asked if I wanted breakfast, and I said yes. I know normally there is a charge, but there was no further discussions on what the charge was or any other terms or conditions.
On the day before checkout, due to problems at work, I had to leave early and be at office for 7am. This required that I check out hotel and leave at a reasonable time to reach my destination by 7. I arrived at lobby at 6.10, checked out and proceeded to the breakfast hall. That's when I realised that breakfast is only open at 6.30, too late for me. It would have been good if they had mentioned this at check-in like all my previous stay.
When I found out that breakfast is not available, I returned to the reception to ask if I can have my breakfast refunded as I will not be able to have breakfast. I was told, no. this is not possible as I purchased this in advance. I explained that this was not explained to me at time of accepting the voucher - where even the cost was not mentioned. I found the staff quite rude and not wanting to find a solution and his attitude was one of, if you're leaving early, not my problem and tough luck if you're paid for the breakfast already.
Being a loyal customer this left a bad taste in the mouth. It's not even about the money as I left the voucher there and left, but about the principle and I expected better.
I would also recommend that the Hotel begin breakfast at 6am, like most other hotels I've stayed at.
In the essence of fairness - the Hotel itself is ok, Rooms are ok, the bed was comfortable, it's only a few minutes walk from the tube station. I am sure overall the hotel is good, and my previous experience of other IHG hotels has been top notch so I've just come across on staff that didn't care - but I still expected better attitude from that individual.
