I came to Phoenix for Business and Pleasure. My hotel experience with HI Phoenix North was quite good. It was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful and polite. I enjoyed my room. I liked the general security around the place.
The pool is covered but outside, small but it was good for a refresher. The Jacuzzi was small, too, but did the job and it was clean. The bar-restaurant was fine for a drink and small meal. They stayed open until about 11 ish.
This is not a resort hotel, nor one in a scenic area--if that's what you are looking for, then try elsewhere.
You are right off Rt. 10, so movement around Phoenix was quick.
The hotel reviews (that I pre-saw# said to be aware of only one washer/dryer to use. It's true. I had to wait in line #but used the sports room and watched tv until my turn came around#. The reviews said that there was only one big elevator and that the stairways only led outside onto outside parking lots--that they did not deposit you into the first floor inside. #I was prepared for that--so I gave a couple of minutes extra time for exiting the hotel in the morn. Yet the one glass# elevator situation did help with the security of the place.) The reviews said the area wasn't in a great area. It was on a road with several hotels/motels and nothing nearby it but a 24 hour McDonald's. No restaurants in the area. So the hotel sports bar was helpful. The reviews also said that the parking lot gets crowded and full. It was true, due to trucks, campers/Winnebagos just taking up too many spaces in the hotel lot. Perhaps the roadway for all the motels, including HI, should share and accommodate a shared lot for the big vehicles. Then the problem would be resolved. The empty lot behind the McDonalds looked like it could be such a place for it.
In a negative, my rental car also suffered some damage on the lot. Yet I don't blame the hotel.
It also is a long walk around from the back parking lot and to the one and only entrance out front.
For business, it was 20 minutes from where I was needing to go. Fine. For pleasure, I was close-by the Milwaukee Brewers Marvvale Ballpark #13 minutes) and to a WalMart to pick up some things. I was in a reachable half-hour distance to some other Spring Training ballparks on the west side of Phoenix. Great. I was situated fine for a trip to Sedona, too. The Airport was about 25 minutes away by car. I had no trouble finding my way from it to the hotel.
Hospitality was a difference here. The housekeepers worked with my requests and my morning need for privacy. The hotel staff were friendly, and they had set up lots of coffee/water stations on the floors. The sports bar and lobby were comfortable environments.
I was able to use one of two public computers to print some tickets and stuff.
I did not eat at the pay-for-breakfast areas any morning.
Check-in and check-out was quite easy and fast. The hotel desk quickly responded to a request I made. Other hotel guests seemed to be happy with their stay, and the reasonable cost of HI North. I think we'd all come back and stay there again.
The halls and rooms looked up-to-date. The rooms had the conveniences you need: refrigerator, coffee single cup machines, nice tv and clean remote, hair dryer, nice soaps, good tub/shower, drawer space, decent curtains to block out the outside world, alarm clock, closet space, chair and work desk and some space in the room. I could not hear other residences at all nor outside noises.
I was promising myself to write a good HI North review if I liked to place. I did. 4.3 out of 5 stars.
